I love your descriptions of Le Lion, just yes, you are a poet! I am cocooned by this scent at the moment in-between moments of Paris-Paris (which I wear at the same time sometimes, though on my other arm). Le Lion feels like my childhood, the matriarchs on my mother's side. Thank you for putting this scent into words ❤

Love le LION 🦁 it's marvelous. We don't know & may never know who actually made this, yes Oliver signed it, but it feels like Christopher Sheldrake, he made coromandel & sycamore and it really feels like his work 🤷♂️ who really knows. I love it tho.
Le Lion is great!! 6 months ago I ordered a sample of Le Lion and Cuir de Russie and I ended up buying full bottle of CdR. I don’t know what is happening when I smell together Le Lion and CdR, but this is magic… I don’t layer them together, just put next to each other. My sample is 4901.
Hi Dacob. I'm a new follower but a longer term "frag head". 2 years after you have posted this review I have watched it to compare my own thoughts with your review. Like you, it's taken me a while to truly appreciate le Lion.
I went to a Chanel event tonight. I had decided to buy le Lion. With a voucher on the ticket price & 20% off in the Dept store I went for the big 😊bottle. So happy to report that my batch code is the 5001. This is Nov 2023. I just can't believe it's the "first edition" 🎉

I also struggle with aggression of Le Lion, though it is so beautiful. Coromandel and even Shalimar are easier wears. I feel like to wear Le Lion I need to be ready to make a grand entrance. Now I feel inspired to wear it a bit more to see if we can make friends. 😁 Criminal that it wasn't a success. The masses want generic.

Dacob! Because of you I purchased Le Lion. Went to pick it up today (Jan 22/2022) and to my surprise, the batch code is 5001!?! This is not selling AT ALL. I have a feeling they will water this down or add more notes to it to make it “pleasant”. I love it Dacob. Thank you.
I have the sample and sprayed it on watching you and it’s cold out. It’s stunning and yes complicated but very exquisite and can tell it’s a true Chanel DNA. I got a decent batch of my CoCo Chanel Noir. I could smell Chanel 5 in the background then the others in the mix is absolutely phenomenal! I’m in love 🥰 if people understand the perfumery chemistry and literature, it will make people realize it’s phenomenal. I wait to let the fragrances sit and macerate in decent room temp. Boom it’s majestic! And Yes, when approaching a Lion we bow. Yes yes that’s the best way to describe it! I get sorta dark chocolate cacao leather vibes on my skin. It’s stunning!
Dacob I purchased this online last year after watching your first impressions video. When I first smelled it I was unsure if I liked it. Now I absolutely love it. It’s so warm and bold but also comforting to me. 💕 Thank you for your videos.
So glad you allowed Le Lion to take its time! I did too and now I love it so much that I stocked up on this early batch code I got cuz it is a rare treat to be around when CHANEL launches a new perfume and to be able to purchase the first batches! Kinda gives me chills! Imagine if we were there when Coco launched No5 back in 1921...?...

But I was so afraid of missing out on getting to try it, after viewing your video I immediately purchased it. And I’m so happy I did. I also feel like it’s part of me now. ❤️

I smelled it in Chanel boutique for the first time and i loved it but hate it at the same time, reminded me of Shalimar and Coromandel, it is vintage and not for me …
Still i was so attracted to the scent to sit on a bench just in front of the boutique sniffing my wrist and the blotter trying to understand it! I love it but can i wear it? Nooo is too majestic and big for my personality and it is not an easy perfume so i left that day
But it was that scent that i couldn’t forget and kept smelling the blotter for days till I decided to buy it …

Even my partner who rarely comment on my fragrances and doesn’t know anything about perfumes asked me when i wore the fragrance: what is that scent? i asked him you don’t like it? He said “no” then “i don’t know it smells familiar” it is so intriguing and takes a time to fall more in love with it
And yes it is an ancient smell but after wearing it i find it modern too now

Fantastic reviews Dacob (as always of course!). This one took me a long time to appreciate. I purchased the 75ml after your first review but haven't used it much. This summer I decided to spritz some before hiking - yes in the heat - and boy did it click. I'm coming around to it now and may consider getting the 200ml. Also layers very well with their Huile Dulce body oil. What a complex scent that takes you on a journey, unfolding slowly through out the day. I also suspect Chanel may water down or reformulate this altogether to be more mass pleasing. And please re-review any perfumes that you now have a differing POV or feelings from the past! Always a joy to watch the reviews.

Le Lion... The drydown on clothes is to die for. Rarely in love with new perfumes but this one is a new milestone in my closet.

As a Leo myself I cherish this so much. So much that I have 3 back up 200 ml bottles and my current 75 ml bottle I use daily. I hope I'm set for life with this much. Is I start to panic with how much in going thru it, I will be forced to purchase another 2-3 bottles.

My first Le Lion encounter was a very large decant from the early Middle East release. It struck me as significantly more skanky than batch 5001 that I bought in preorder. I just took a hot bath with 3 sprays of the Middle East release and my impression was correct...much skankier. Two different gorgeous fragrances.
Interesting information Kathryn but the fact of the matter is that the batch I have was produced in February 2020. Le Lion was launched in the Middle East around March 2020. It was subsequently launched in the rest of the World between November 2020 and January 2021. So the batch I got was also sold in the middle East... xoxo

I just purchased le lion in the 200ml yesterday and my batch code is also 5001. A bit concerned that these bottles aren't moving but at least I'm set for life! I keep reapplying to figure it out. It's surprisingly wearable though

Lovely re-review! I do agree that this one demands respect, in a way no other CHANEL perfume would. Personally though, I think it’s not as original as it is unique… the fact that it pays homage to the greatest perfumes of old (as Shalimar), as well as respected perfumes of new (as Coromandel), makes me think that it’s a type of “wannabe” but with personality and character… then again, we all let ourselves be inspired by other people and other things, so I guess it’s no different than any of us. Maybe not original, but certainly unique. Love how you express this one needs be treated as a pure perfume; this one shines most when correctly dosed. Thank you for this re-review!
100% agree with you Dacob, the dry down is magnificent especially on clothes. I bought the 200ml bottle last year and I love ❤️ love ❤️ love ❤️ this so so much. And again, you talked me into it, I need another 200ml backup bottle. Great job Dacob!

I agree with you on that this one is the One to rule them all - this is the sum of Coco's history (all other Les Exclusifs) and then some more. The "more" bit, the labdanum, I take it as her character - the others are memories, locations. But Le Lion is HER. PERIODT. 😊

Uff my batch code is the same 5001 and omg remember when I smelled it for the first time I was like omg 🤤🤤 I got since the beginning the 200 ml even that I think is one if not my fav perfume still not use it daily maybe because of respect of these or the weather in California in San Diego for le lion is like need to use it in particular occasion but yes I put one spray in my hand watching this review and yes omg I making a lot of saliva smelling this like when you are super hungry or like a lion about to eat it’s prey and yes when close to the skin is like the lion with the lioness cuddling and sleeping but still magnificent great great review pff thinking in another bottle now that you speak about watering down pff will be a shame.. and the super dry down after hours on skin smells like white chocolate like that Hershey white bar of cookies and cream lol

My ascend sign is Leo (Taurus of 6 of May) and you got it right. Leo's are very proud. You have to earn their respect by bowing without submitting. It's key! Respect but maintaining a certain type of challenge. And no one can ever tame a wild beast. It's their nature. They can be very sweet and giving but in a second they can snap! I think this perfume must be like that. Very very curious to experience this "voyage". Must find here a Chanel boutique to try it. A big hug ❤️❤️😘

I purchased a slightly used 5001 batch and received it this week. Maybe I'm weird (ok yes) but I LOVE IT! I will be studying it for a while, of course. I got the Shalimar parfum (opening) and 31 Rue Cambon EDT (dry down) comparisons most upon first wearing, but holy gorgeous all around! That dry down makes me want to cuddle with myself. I would almost prefer that it wasn't a spray given it's so strong and I want it in multiple places. Oh help me, I want the big bottle now. 😊 Great review!

Anyway, I knew there were multiple reasons I like you - Pisces here! All but one of my serious relationships have been with Cancer men, currently dating a Cancer. My bestie is a Cancer man (and so is his husband). My other long-term was a Scorpio. Water love! 🥰🐟🦀🦂 My last lover was a Leo, though, and that's all I'm gonna say about that - rarw 🦁.

I remember when you first reviewed this scent and I could tell you just weren’t sure about this fragrance. I completely agree that this is a “Frankenstein” fragrance, it’s a nod to all of the other releases. I get so much Coromandel and CdR when I spray this; I also find if I spray another fragrance on top of this after a few hours, it comes back to life. I’m not sure why, but I never reach for my Chanel Les Ex bottles.. I’m going to have a bath and wear this today. Tonight however, I’m going to reach for my Cristalle. So went to Chanel Boutique, they didnt had Le Lion but got its 4ml sample (6901).. Tried full wearing.. Lord have mercy !! This has Masterpiece written all over it 10/10.. Its exactly how you described.
Got a call from another boutique they were having its 200ml (Batch:5302 May 2020) should i pick it over Batch: 6901 Sep 2021

I opened my little sample with promo card and little bottle from CHANEL . I am still walking around this eyeing it as if I am not worthy . I think it is so big and so rich I feel unworthy just yet but I am worthy enough to drip in all other CHANEL'S . I feel like I ran into a barn to be safe from the rain and looked over to see a minister doing the same Yes a minister and a barn full of damp hay . It has a story & you told it perfect Dacob

Dacob, I guess I found myself a sample of this gem, the first batch. It's 4901... checkfresh says it was produced 2 years and 2 months ago. If my computation is right, this has to be the first batch. That's why it's strong, like an extrait.

chanel le lion is doing guerlain shalimar, is like guerlain liu is doing chanel no 5. the 2 pairs are that resemblant to each other. when i smell le lion i smell shalimar, and when i smell liu i smell no 5. imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.
Except Le Lion is nothing like Shalimar when one really gets to know it. ;) xoxo

Got it yesterday…and i’m confused…subjective?anosmic?I don’t know…it’s not the same push that i’ve got from the 4 months earlier batch when i tested it in a store(5901),mine 6301.I refuse to believe that they’ve already toned something down,It would just be too early.Still,i don’t get the same performance/ingredients.Not 100% sure but there’s a (quite)hint of doubt.
Has nothing to do with them wanting to water it down so soon. The problem is more the pandemic and the lack of certain materials in this era as opposed to the time the first edition was produced. xoxo
Ok,it could be….but the result is the same-i’m not satisfyed anyway.The perfume is sent a month or so ago back to France,to be checked out,but i allready know the results,as i bought it from the official boutique.Their initial explanation was that it could be due to the different harvest,but in any case,it’s not the same kick that i got from trying perfume from 200ml bottle from the store.So,i bought something that supposed should be,but eventually it isn’t.There is a tiny tiny possibility that it is my nose,who got it wrong,but i think it’s not,and the other,that the perfume will graduately get there,during the time settling in the bottle.In the store there is one older 200ml batch,but buying first 75,then 200ml??It’s not some 40$ cheapie,that i could burn in no time….thanks for explanation:)
I just searching le lion in my country, and found someone sell it with batch 8101 (2022 i believe) and i am seeing same ingredient same formula code (IL-44-I). Any thoughts dacob?
The new one os flat and less nuanced. Has less character and is more streamlined.
I got my 75ml le lion bottle on my birthday month last year April 2020 with the batch code of 4902. I hope it is same smell as your 5001 Dacob 🙂
Thats a great number! Anything lower than 5001 is even closer to the first batch.

I prefer Le Lion over Coromandel personally but we are all different and we all have different preferences

Hi Dacob, any idea if Chanel has already watered down or if they have diminished the labdanum in Le Lion? My 75ml is a 5001 but I couldn’t find a 200ml earlier than than 5901. I bought it yesterday and it smells great! A little less strong on the smokiness/labdanum though. Maybe this will increase over time. Merry Christmas!🎄
Hey dear, I think you just need to let it breathe a little and spray it a couple times to let oxygen into the 200ml bottle and it will deepen the smell. xoxo

@@marco6349 Hi there, yes I have. TO me the badges starting with 6xxx smell different; I got a sample of 6400. Maybe it’s the sample size that makes it different but I’m not going to buy a bottle past 6xxx to test it. Till now I’ve stocked up 2 x 200ml (5901 and 4901) 4 x 75ml (3 x 5001 and 5301). All these are the same imo.

I have an interesting story about le lion. when it was first released in United Arab emirates, the SA's marketed the perfume as love letter or a homage from Olivier Polge to the emirates, because he visited once and felt in love with the country and people smelling like oud and sandalwood. i went to every boutique to talk to the SA'a to confirm the story and everyone said the same thing. i wonder if they say the same thing in boutiques around the world
No they don't. Its all marketing. The SAs were trained to say that in the Emirates in order to sell more perfume. As for the oud... there is no oud in Le Lion ;) xoxo
@@essence-tiallydacob9611 YES! there is no oud, however the SA's were claiming that there is just to sell the perfume to walk-in customers who probably are not knowledgeable about le lion composition.
I find it far too lemony for my taste. No ressemblance whatsoever with coromandel or shalimar for me
It has a bitter bergamot flavor in the opening but not as lemony as Shalimar is.. but still, very different.
It's so not for me 😔

I got a sample a few days ago, and after watching this I decided to give it a try. Ah Dacob, what a pleasant surprise this was to spritz for the first time. I got somewhat emotional too. It immediately brought me back to my childhood/early teens when I would frequently visit spiritual stores. Those stores always left me with a sense of contentment and peace, and Le Lion has brought this feeling back to me. What joy 🥲
