    Really fascinating his discussion of the bow and his insistence that there be some edge to the sound for better quality.

    I think that the message Ivry is trying to "pass" on all his masterclasses is not at everyone's reach and sometimes I wonder if some of the students even understand it, when they spent their whole musician life trying to play like a computer, mellow and vibrato and linear and harmony, without character shortly said.

      +Andrew Cheek I mean the first piece of the masterclass. The intro piece played by Gitlis (in black and whote) is Tchaikovsky's violin concerto

    He was about the most unusual violinist in history. He had his little cult of followers - personally I (and quite a few others too actually) never found a single reputable thing in his playing. He always sounded like he was in a hurry to catch a train or something. Rushing, scratching, inattention to the score...those are a few of my UNfavorite things about The Strange World of Ivry Gitlis. He couldn't teach either it looks like.

    Dammit listening to him me feel like an idiot.... "don't just play the first note, look at the whole bloody thing..." duh. Why didn't I already know this?

    I hate to say this, but I don't think he helped any of these students. He just wanted to tell stories and say soundbites that weren't specific to the pupil in question.

      YOU ARE COMPLETELY WRONG IN MY OPINION - GITLIS PIN POINTED REALLY CRUCIAL FUNDAMENTALS FOR EACH STUDENT - MARVELLOUS!

    • @BenjiOrthopedic
      @BenjiOrthopedic 2 года назад +1

      @@sarahporter281 I don't think he's wrong. He was not a violin teacher or pedagogue. He had a successful performing career but despite doing master classes sometimes, he wasn't any good at it. He gave a masterclass one time that a few of my friends played at and two of the three of them said it was a complete waste. The third said "yeah he was nice..." and was at a loss for words after that, probably meaning that she didn't learn anything much from him. And a fourth person, who attended but didn't play, also said that it was a joke - he didn't teach anything but prattled on about nothingness mostly. Sorry I know you posted this 2 years ago but I couldn't resist. And your using ALL-CAPS doesn't help you make your point.

    Poor pupils! They all have a great level and a beautiful sound ! An amazing articulation of their left fingers! What do they have remember during this meeting ? Do they dramatically change their way of working pieces? Their way of holding the bow? Or using or not their chin rest? ....I would be curious to know, some years after, this meeting with Ivry Giltis ...Certainly it was pleasant for their Professor to show how she was fine and familiar with a « Giant »of violin. I would say « snobism ». Ivry Giltis had some ideas « you must take the time to spend the time to have the time « and so on. Despite this Ivry was a virtuose violonist but « Teachers let the Kids alone ! » Everybody follows and finds his or her way to Roma!
    Compare Isaac Stern masterclass with it: ruclips.net/video/BqIA4JigmJM/видео.html

    Ivry. Glitis « MASTER CLASS 2013 IN DENMARK «
    Il semblerait que ce soit plutôt en .... 1913 !!!!
    et de plus .... ce n est pas une « MASTER CLASS !! «
    En fait ... on se demande aussi .... s il s agit d un véritable virtuose comme on voudrait nous le faire croire ...!! C a ressemble plutôt à une prestation de « musique Kleissner « pimenté d humour ...
    « KLEISNER ». aussi ... !! ... rien de plus !!
    heureusement pour lui que les socialistes avaient inventé ... « LES INTERMITTENTS DU SPECTACLE « !! car il a pu , ainsi que ses compatriotes ... vivre confortablement en FRANCE ... toute sa vie ...
    quasiment inconnu .... grâce à la candeur des « gentils «
    de FRANCE ... et sa carrière en « demi- teinte « comme indiqué lors de son passage au CONSERVATOIRE DE PARIS sans QU on ne sache la date .... non plus .. !! F A K E. !! d ailleurs tous les « Commentes « are in. ... ENGLISH » cela fait penser aux votes par correspondance qui ont permis à JOE BIDEN D ÊTRE ÉLU À LA PRÉSIDENCE DES USA RÉCEMMENT !! ... F A K E ...!!
