i loved every bit of this video. You were very right when you said jasmines have a special place in the heart for Indians, and more jasmines appear in courtyards and balconies than any other flower in India, and for very good reason too:) We have been enjoying them for thousands of years, offering them to each other and indeed to God in his many forms.
I have seen umpteen websites on jasmines, and all that information just slips out of my mind after a while before i actually get to a nursery and decide what i want to take! But your video was so well made, so direct and to the point, i think i finally distilled some information that will stand the test of time! Thank you for this video, and indeed for all of them, which i regularly enjoy.

I have a very big 17 year old maid of Orleans Jasmine in a pot that I always grow cuttings from. I live in Canada so I can't keep it outside, but I never knew about defoliating the branches to encourage blooms, my Jasmine will always do it for itself.

Hello dear lady, I live in Texas now and since I'm from northern Mexico, I miss the real jasmine from Mexico which is very full. The perfume is just lovely and unforgettable. My mom had many pots full of jasmines and come May, she'gather several and give us girls to take to our teachers. Everyone loved and enjoyed them. Here, I can only find the simple petals jasmine plant called Star. I shall never forget those gorgeous scented jasmines that my mom grew at home. Thank you for showing the lovely hedge you have. I wish I could go by and smell the blooms. God bless you, a lady from San Antonio, TX.

Oh for a jasmine hedge! We have some types of jasmine here but the scent really needs the sun to bring it out so it is largely wasted.

Your jasmine collection is really very very awesome, handsome and well maintained .It was really a pleasure to watch the video that you have made appropriately.Being an Indian I do know how much the jasmines mean for us and they do have heavenly fragrance. You explained all varieties correctly ,I m even mad of jasmines and have 4 varieties within my courtyard.I use the half blooming puffy n fresh buds to make garlands and scent the drinking water in scourging summers. But unfortunately I don't have the "Grand Duke"variety and don't even think I would get the same here over, you are quite lucky. And its a dream to come true for some app to be developed and someone may really design it.I can feel the essence of your fabulous flowers from here itself.God bless you and your hedges with all his grace.Thank you very much mam.

+Love Flowers That is a plant that was sent to me from Texas. It was from a local Vietnamese garden center. I said that, as it looks very similar to the Jasmines sold in India in the garlands. I think the flowers in Jasmine garlands in India are 2-3 layers and are small stemmed most of the time. The 2-3 layered Jasmines sold as Mysore mulli and Jasmine Flore plena are very similar and you can get them from many online nurseries.. HTH, Good luck!!

I have a Jasmine Potted on my deck in York PA where winter are felt & I have to take it indoors but need your advise to keep it alive

    • @crazyforflowers7478
      @crazyforflowers7478  8 лет назад +1

+Shreeram Shirodkar This is the info that I have from Jasmine growers from colder area. Hope it helps..
Jasmine Plants Winter care indoors:Location & Temperature: Jasmine plants need to be brought indoors for winter when the temp goes down to 50 or below in North East region states. Once you bring the plant indoors place it next to a sunny window where plant can get direct or indirect sunlight during winter months. Jasmine plant can tolerate occasional temperature going down to mid 40s but exposing to 40 degree temperature continuously will kill the plant. Ideal temperature for plant to survive and bloom indoors is above 55degrees.
Watering: Jasmine plant does not require much water during winter months. The plant does not bloom much indoors but stays green and requires weekly or once in two weeks watering depending on how dry the soil is. Water jasmine plants only if top 2inch layer of soil is dry. Too much watering creates root rot and may harm the plant. Occasionally it does produce few blooms to enjoy indoors. Plant has to be maintained indoors until next spring and be taken outside when temps remain above 55 during night.Fertilization: Jasmine plants do not require fertilization on regular basis in winter as it may build up salts at bottom of pot. Fertilization is required only during active growing period. When plant shows new growth, you can start fertilizing with weak concentration of fertilizer. I will share information on different kinds of fertilizers and their effect on jasmine plants in month of May.Pest problems: Due to lack of humidity and air circulation indoors you may see some pest problems on jasmine plants indoors. If proper care/treatment is taken early, the infestation can be stopped. Spider mites are the only pest that I noticed with this plant indoors. This happens with all indoor plants due to lack of air circulation and humidity. The organic approach to handle this problem is to take the plant to bathtub and wash the leaves front/back properly to kill the mites under the faucet. The mites are very minute and are easy to control them. Once cleaned in shower, spray the plant with horticulture grade oil to control further. Horticulture oil can be mixed with dish washing soap and sprayed on plants to control any bugs.Repotting: Do not re-pot jasmine plants during winter indoors. Re-potting is advised in spring season or late summer.

9B here as well and I have had Grand Duke growing on the wrought iron columns in front of my home for 20 years. They only get sun until noon on the east facing front of my home. They will take a lot of abuse and neglect, and when you are ready to attend to them, can be brought back even stronger than before. I also have a star jasmine that was hanging by a thread, having been choked out by some really invasive vines and when I weeded it, pruned it and fertilized it, showed a bunch of new growth within a few days time.
Really makes the whole porch front smell really nice.

Nishat Ali I am not sure it is fertilizer issue.. In summer if you can give it full sun, and keep it moist and not wet, it will do good. I use any balanced fertilizer. Most people up north, bring their plants out in spring , add fresh potting media and prune if needed early on for good growth and blooms..

+Shreeram Shirodkar Udipi and Manglore mallige are Jasmines. However I am not sure if they are from Jasmine Sambac variety of flowers. I have not heard of Bhatkal flower. Madhurai Malli is J. sambac sambac variety.

I found its name! It seems that it is technically not a jasmine indeed... its a kind of plumeria... I have no idea why we call it jasmine!

Hi, thanks for information about variety of jasmines. I have been crazy about growing jasmines at home in pot for the past few years. I live in Georgia. although I keep the plants inside during winter, and place them outside during spring after the temperature reaches above 40, and prune them, most of them die in a month or so. last year also, I got 3 plants from toptropicals, all of them were good until 2 weeks ago. I placed them outside and pruned, and fertilized them, leaves were shoot out. but they are slowly dying now. it happens every year in spring. I have been successful in growing many plants but jasmine is always a failure for me. it's there any tip to save them now? the new shoots have fallen, but I know the root is still alive. any chances of saving them ? thanks for the tips.

+Anu Ramesh Hi, I am not sure based on your description, as to why they would die in the spring, when they should be growing strongly. If they are indoors, then slowly get them to sun. Make sure you are not over or under watering. I would not fertilize them until I see enough new growth, so as to not burn them. Good luck!!

I love your jasmines Radha!!! I follow the gardenweb too but don't really post there..i am also in the process of collecting jasmines :) Would it be possible for you to give me cuttings of the 2 jasmines that you spoke after malichat.(the ones that you spoke that are found in India). Reminds me of mom planting these. I will pay for the shipping. Thanks.

SHRAVANI BOJJA Shravani, the two plants I showed after malichat.. one is Thai Jasmine, that someone sent me from Dallas, from a Vietnamese nursery.. in fact from GW.. you can search for the thread there where a lot of us asked and was sent the plant last year. The other, I got from India as small twig and is beginning to grow. It may take another year for me to take cuttings from them. Even if I take cuttings, they will be tender and small and will not root for you.

Next year with good growth I can make rooted cuttings I think..If you did not find them by then, please remind me.. I will send you.. nice name!!

One more thing Radha how do you get jasmine cutting from India (rooted or unrooted). If it is rooted won't be a problem at the airport. How do you keep it alive in the bags. Sorry so many questions. My mom is in the process of collecting jasmines for her new house, so thought of asking to do for me too and get it next time when she or I travel. Thank you so much.

SHRAVANI BOJJA It is difficult to get plants from India. I just took a chance and brought a couple, that I really needed to have. I surely do not recommend doing what I did!! The proper way is to get USDA permits. The problem is their list is extensive. I spoke to someone n USDA once, who said Jasmines from India are on the invasive list.. But Jasmines from rest such as Thailand, etc are not!! Go figure!! I guess they have a list of plants that they think are invasive for each country..
