Sheets: imslp.org/wiki/Souvenir_de_Filipinas_(Santiago%2C_Francisco) Much more than a knockoff, Francisco Santiago takes the melody of the Philippine folksong "Lulay" and uses the style of Liszt's La Campanella to mimic a performance that uses folk instruments like the kulintang, kubing and bandurria on piano. Besides some awkwards spots, this is overall easier yet just as flashy as La Campanella, for those who want to try it. Though there are parts in the sheets that don't make sense and are probably engraving errors, which I alter in my cover.
A wonderful pianistic expression of pinoy pride, thanks for making me more appreciative of my country! 🇵🇭🇵🇭🇵🇭(I'm also filipino and an aspiring pianist, although not as good as you🙂) New sub!
This piece reminded me a lot of Liszt pieces. The intro is definitely the Spanish Rhapsody arpeggios, and the section after the intro is where the La Campanella starts. After the tremolos part we return to the Spanish Rhapsody arpeggios, and then the Spanish Fantasy cross-hand section. Then the inverted Mazeppa part, and then the Hungarian 6 ending style, La Campanella octaves and then the La Clochette Bravura ending.
So great La Campanella dear friend. Thanks for sharing. Your piano performance is so impressive. Full view and big like. I wish you a happy Wednesday...👍👍
@@TheFlamingPiano btw will you be doing la campanella soon enough? and which version would you do since there's the 1838 early version and the 1851 popular version
I like the way how you evenly play between each note on arpeggios. My all work on piano is to achieve even spaces between each notes right now. It is hard but it is more about relaxed and controlled muscles. I can play relaxed but this time my fingers don't play on time sometimes they just don't get it together. You somehow managed to execute these perfectly. Well done.
I love my Country's Art 🇵🇭🇵🇭🇵🇭, There are some Lisztian elements but overall I can hear the Philippine Instruments doing improvisations on a theme where they use tremolos
Yes, these Liszt techniques are even used to mimic folk instruments. It's more than the tremolos... I think kulintang on alternating notes, bandurria for repeated notes, kubing for some staccatos (I think I can "hear" it in 3:50), maybe water chimes for arpeggios, etc.

@@Matcha649 Oh, I see, no worries. I just was saying that while it's based off Filipino tunes and instruments, maybe it would sound similar to an Argentinian tango because both types of music have Spanish influences (since both countries were conquered by Spain). Was just trying to see how they may be similar
@@TheFlamingPiano I think either grade 8 which is the final grade or maybe license which is above. Great playing. what i love about it is your musicality. bravo✌

The similarities are both identical in musical style. Interesting piece!
Not a bad knock off but nowhere near as flashy and impressive as La Campanella, not even comparable
Alternate universe where Liszt is Asian and the prodigies are from Europe.

I need to know more about this composer! You played this piece well, bravo as always
Thanks! Santiago is considered the "Father of Kundiman" and a leading musician in the Philippines in his time (pre-WW2). You can see more in Wikipedia
This was so well played, you deserve much more recognition...
You definetely wont find pianists like this very often!

i never thought that the country i'm staying in currently had a musical composition inspired by one of my favorite Liszt etudes.
Listen to Francisco Buencamino, his style is very much inspired by Liszt
