      Losing solitude and leyline binding are rough for bean count, is the thought that bean is still just a really good card even if you don't lean as hard into it?

    • @lightworker2956
      @lightworker2956 19 дней назад

      I'm not sure you can get away with mostly-basics in a three color deck. And if you just run like three basics, then Wasteland still affects you quite a lot. A deck that can operate off very little mana would benefit from being able to fall back to "I have 2-3 basics in play", but this deck wants to cast five-drops the hard way to profit off Beans. And Wasteland will keep you off that even if you have like three basics in your deck.

    • @christopherlundgren1700
      @christopherlundgren1700 26 дней назад +2

      @@sontaranmc2109 It’s almost exactly the card Reap and Sow, and that’s been around since Darksteel. I don’t think it’s had much relevance since it rotated out of Standard, but making it an Eldrazi creature seems to have put it over the top.
      I don’t know if I’d put it in the “most miserable” category personally, but when it’s good against you, it can be pretty obnoxious.

    • @sontaranmc2109
      @sontaranmc2109 26 дней назад +9

      @@christopherlundgren1700 I think the body and the eldrazi synergies are really the exact problem. Firstly, it's not *really* 6 mana because you can fire it off faster much more consistently with Eldrazi Temple and Eye of Ugin. Secondly, it having a body means it's not just land destruction, it puts your opponent down a *ton* on tempo while you also just nuke their manabase to make it so they can't respond. And thirdly, since it's a cast trigger, it's also not counterable by any usual means.
      I think the most miserable part about it, though, is the fact that it eats basics. One of the core parts of Legacy is that there's a lot of nonbasic land hate, but there's not much that destroys *basics*, which is why those cards are allowed: you can play around them with a basic manabase. But Mycospawn just removes that counterplay and there's nothing you can do about it.

  • @Blacksunstoneful
    @Blacksunstoneful 24 дня назад +2

    Game 1 illustrates the problem with fast colorless mana in any format really, if it's not used for combo it's used for things like this.
    Eldrazi are fine when they're isolated into big mana cloudpost/tron decks that effectively play a lands ramp game, they're slow and predictable allowing for quite a bit of counterplay with nonbasic land hate, being aggro, reanimating their fatty against them or punishing their cast triggers.
    But when you add ancient tomb, lotus petals, grim monoliths it's a bit overbearing because the deck transforms from big dumb "we cast ulamog" deck into a aggro ponza/prison deck that also can spike mana and combo kill you with fleshrakers and outvalue you with one rings, and the normal axis of land hate doesn't work because they can manarock their way out of it or just go under you by deploying a litany of cheap eldrazi that are hard to beat in combat.
    Really legacy needs an overhaul, the fast mana, the excessive cantrips, all the free spells that cheat resources have just led to a game state of who has the most nut draw, and that's not magic, that's just yugioh with less anime titties.

  • @angelatheist
    @angelatheist 26 дней назад +5

    At 1:04:20 you exile the emperor during the main phase. You can get the troll exiled if you do it at the start of combat with the exile trigger on the stack.
    Also FYI, if you make a token copy of a card it will copy the mana cost too unless it specifically says that it doesn't.

    The one time glarb resolved in this league, it was impressive..I wonder if cutting white entirely would fix the mana problems? I'm not sure how to replace all the white removal, though, it's important for glarb/bean count.

      @@Betex9s I think the big problem with Library is that it is 2 mana and requires an entire turn cycle before it can even go off (Though it can be a source of advantage when you need it). Keep in mind, it draws cards (Meaning you wouldn't be able to use it on your first upkeep and trigger the miracle in that same turn).
      If anything, I think Mirri's Guile would be better suited if you wanted to go that route (As it effectively does the same thing, but is 1 mana less and wouldn't trigger Bowmasters).

      Sowing Mycospawn is a very powerful and unfun card. Eldrazi is currently in check in terms of win percentage, but it is absolutely a fundamental force in the current metagame due to its raw power. I think we're at a "we need to keep an eye on Sowing Mycospawn because control decks are struggling so much" point. We get a couple more months of data before March rolls around. I expect Sowing Mycospawn will be in discussion at that point.

    Watching match 3 felt like when I’m tilted and keep making small “errors” that eventually all lead to my loss and not one egregious “error”. For example, you took a beanstalk off Ponder, then played an Uro, if you were gonna play Uro you could have guaranteed the land in the ponder pile, and if you played the beanstalk you could have dodged the removal spell and gotten better value on your counter, but instead you did two halves of two lines that ended up getting max punished. Even earlier in that match a tap land was played instead of brainstorm or swamp cycle and then op slammed blood moon ftw after us proactively countering a non blood moon knowing we lost to it, so if we were going to play proactive with counter then keep to that game plan and proactively keep plan to look for another counter if needed available. I say this not to say I think you played poorly, I genuinely see myself in those moments and have been trying to address that in my play personally so I want to put it into words for myself and anyone else this may help: it is ok to have a change of plan, but as a plan is created, it is important to know what that plan is executing and make sure the rest of the plan continues that intention, lest we find moments of being max punished for doing two half plans. Thanks for the awesome brew and great content
