I’ve always imagined a pair of AirPods Pro with rubber gaskets and screws and no glue at all. I hope someday it becomes possible to make them that way…
rubber gaskets need high mounting pressure to compress and work properly, something which is not achievable on earbuds as they only use glue/clips to secure the shell. so either they would have to use a metal shell or use screws both of which are unlikely

Not great, the average person won't have all of those tools. Even people with some expertise in electronics, such as myself, still won't have all of the tools to hand - let alone trying to actually perform the repair without damaging myself or the Buds. The process involved in a simple battery replacement in these is not worth doing IMO. It would be better to buy cheaper earbuds, such as the Anker Soundcore P20i, where if the batteries fail, it doesn't matter (because they only cost £20 to begin with), or buy repairable earbuds such as the ones from Fairphone.
I've never had a pair of Buds fail, ever, so, for me at least, the repairability scale means nothing. And I don't mind buying new ones every year or so.
Something that you miss is that with the airpods pro 2 even the case has a IP54 rating. That for some people may be a huge plus. I know a person that regularly throws the airpods case in the washing machine. And saying how good the fairphone buds are for repair is a joke considering the different class of earbuds. The galaxy buds are far more feature rich with out of fairphone's league in terms of sound quality.
I don't think Bluetooth buds are inherently a scam but they probably shouldn't be allowed to be sold on a mass level without finding a way to make replaceable batteries. Fair phone I guess proved it can be done although they haven't released him on a consumer facing scale. Although they removed the head from Jack from their phone, so kind of lost a lot of credibility from them
