I've said it before & I'll say it again: Take it to one of these guys (ARod, Rainman, Bearded Ford Tech, Ford Tech Makuloco etc) & not a dealership. Dealerships are supposed to protect customers from the manufacturer for warranty work but they are doing the opposite. These guys want you to *want* to come back for other work so they take care of their customers.
This is what worries me about going to a dealer for service or repairs. If someone like you who does this for a living has to fight this crap, the average Joe consumer is screwed. Appreciate you man.
And that's why I did this video. To teach you (the subscriber) what to look for and not just take their word for it. I didn't want to do it. But it was recommended I do it for that information. So you can be aware. Not all dealers are like this. They just happen to pick the wrong person to try and screw over(you shouldn't screw anyone over) but I'm not just average joe know what I mean. I want you guys to have as much information as possible with these ford vehicles. That way when situations do arise you know what to do and how to handle it.
Just want to say THANK YOU!! I just went through a CP4 failure and was denied a warranty claim. After nearly choking on their quote to repair, I started doing my own research. Finding this video saved me thousands. Turns out, they just looked in the tank and drained the fuel/water separator. Saw metal and got maybe an ounce of water, and said it was contaminated fuel. They never pulled the VCV or PCV. Showed them the GSB and they said "Doesn't matter, the fuel is contaminated". Called around to a few other dealers and found one that knew EXACTLY what was going on and even mentioned the proper diagnostic procedure without me even mentioning the GSB. Towed the truck over there, they pulled the VCV, and guess what. No contamination at all besides the metal from the exploded pump. Fully warrantable and fixed just over a week later. The only thing I paid for was the oil change I asked them to do while it was there. Thank you, thank you, thank you for posting this.

100% warrantable as long as your in by mileage or time. Not a speck of rust on that. Id personally love to see the "fuel sample" with a ton of water in it. These kinda dealers need to be held accountable and we need to continue to inform the customer what is and is not warranty.

@@tattooedmillionair no. The dealership charges ford for the parts and labor. But they only pay 1.5 times less than customer pay. It's the bad techs that do it. Advisors that don't care and managers that let it happen. There are good dealers and techs out there. They are just consumed by the bad.
Imagine how many guys are getting screwed by Ford because of their bulletin, which will save Fraud=Ford money and cost you!! Just shows you how good the blue oval's gonna treat you if you're not an alpha male, all liars!! you probably would take it in the shorts. And you will. anyway, by driving the blue oval. If you're not familiar of the two dozen $10,000 problem. And at the very least you'll have oil dripping on your driveway, as long as you own one, because that's too expensive to repair as well

I’d like to mention another way the customer gets screwed. Say they were right and water was in the fuel. A gas station will never pay for repairs willingly. Collect as much evidence as you can and hire a lawyer for a small claims lawsuit. And this situation is awful. When a service writer says it’s not covered, the average person is not informed enough to fight it. Please do more videos like this informing customers.
True. Fuel stations have water in the tank. But that's what the fuel water separator is for. Also the high pressure pump is lubricated by diesel. Diesel alone is not enough. That's why an additive is needed. But Ford states do not use an additive unless it's the ford approved one (sold in parts department). It's a whole bunch of back and forth. Your right gas station won't pay for it. And a fuel filter won't separate all water. There will always be some water in your tank. That's why the diesel truck has a water in fuel indicator. The average person isn't told enough by the writer. They are just writers and can shoot a line of BS that sounds accurate. They are trying me and pushing my patience. I will do more videos like this. @@thomas7770 aftermarket oil and filter won't void your warranty. That's the thing. You as a consumer can go where you want for oil changes. (just keep your records) cause they will ask for it. As far as additives they take a fuel sample looking for water. Not necessarily an additive unless it gets taken that far. It's a catch 22

That's crazy & SAD at the same time I only service at dealer and I see as of lately they only want paid repairs not warranty I have the heated seat issue on remote start that they aren't on until PTS Two times now I got the run around First being they wrote INTERMITTENT second that they aren't supposed to come on unless it's 32 degrees Smh

It's a really good engine just a crappy pump. Thats why you upgrade to the DCR. It's not just ford but any diesel from any manufacturer should think that way at the pump as well. But thus is why you run additives to help prevent that.
That makes sense. Especially after what happened to you. I know not every dealer is that way but at the same time Im sure they dont want to eat a $12,000+ job. The weird thing is that is if it is under warranty then it is ford paying for it and not the dealer. Well thanks for the response. Kindaof Ironic. All the 6.0 repairs didn't cost the dealers 18,000 to fix like these new 6.7 Ford built power strokes cost Ford motor company when they're under warranty to fix. Think I'll be keeping my 7.3 and my 6 L and my 2015 has a 6.2 V8 gas in it. The 2017 that I bought that had a 6.7 power stroke in it. Yeah it got returned in within a week's time
The 6.7 is a great engine. And everyone hears us talk about it. But it's actually a very small percentage that fail. This one was an emergency vehicle so a little extra time was added. Non emergency your still looking at 12-15k. It's a lot of work to replace the fuel system. I love the 6.2 liter. I was a raptor with the 6.2 (11-14)
Flash backs to my callers on our weekend Radio Show outta Syracuse NY The CarGuys Herv and Dave- Dave has passed I'm retired the warranty drama lives on and on and on. They say were sitting ducks on the road if that pump fails, Cheaper to tow it home to you home base Dealer sometimes!
This is what worries me. I have a 6.7 HO F-350 scheduled for April production. I struggle with deciding on changing out the CP4 to the aftermarket S&S pump to avoid problems in spite of voiding my warranty. I hear people complaining the warranty is useless because they don’t honor it. So it seems like a better plan to change out the pump right off the bat versus taking a chance with a failure and getting hosed on the warranty. 18k is a lot of money to risk versus whatever the S&S pump costs.
I fought for this one. And we always tell people. We have to prove the part you put on caused a failure. I've put on about 10 S&S DCR pumps so far. And everyone of them run like a champ and run better. They can't deny a warranty if it doesn't fail right. If your cp4 fails you are going to jump through hoops. That's why I did this video to arm the viewer with as much information as possible to help them. But a 1900 dollar dcr is better than a 20k fuel system. Buy once cry once. Be done and keep on trucking. My honest opinion. Get the DCR
@@BeardedFordTech Then why does Ford continue to use this pump? GM used it 2011 to 2016 on the LML and is being sued. Fiat used it on the 2019 / 2020 6.7 Cummins and is recalling those trucks and putting a CP3 on. Here is Ford still using it WHY?
Looks like you caught this dealer in a lie. I saw no rust particles in the picture. They are going to be in for a big surprise as they are not dealing with just an average mechanic. You definitely know the ropes. I wonder how many people this particular dealer have fleeced.
@@CPsGarage I don't know. But his exact words were every time we submitted it they got denied. But they never submitted mine. So how many did they really submit? I'm guessing none.
The problem is the bill rates are different. The profitability is much less on a warranty claim vs a customer pay. So there is no incentive to push warranty
@aaronphillips2728 you are correct. However on the 2019+ the buckets on the cp4 are pinned so they don't move. Do they still fail? Of course. Which is also why we put is DCR pumps from S&S motorsports
@aaronphillips2728 who installed it? I've never had one make any kind of noise after install. If they are timed correctly. That's why they get timed. For nkise and vibration.
I did get an engineer involved. And everyone I delt with works for ford. Dealers ate franchises. I've worked at many ford dealers. This has been handle and got covered. I have friends on the inside 😁
Dealers are going ABOVE and BEYOND to avoid billing warranty claims because they cant screw over the warranty companys as the repair costs are all pre determined. They cant just make up random charges
Yeah not for warranty. But this is factory warranty. Not third party company. And warranty is paid 1.5 times less than customer pay. So this being a ford under ford factory warranty. The dealership would charge ford for repairs. But ford will only lay 1.5 times less. So the tech makes less. It's a double edge sword.

The first Ford dealership. Checked the codes , then said they didn’t have any parts or where they sure what the issue is. These Companies has put a number of Crooked Dealerships out of business, it's best to be skeptical when having work done at the Dealerships,, not all but if something seems fishy call the Company's Main Headquarters.

@@Rcol4427 F250 powerstroke is a very reliable vehicle. There will always be some water in the fuel (gas and diesel). Gas is a little easier to maintain. If you get bad gas the computer usually compensates or get you some octane booster. As far as diesel to prevent it or keep it minimum at every fill up use a fuel additive. The diesel alone isn't enough to lubricate the high pressure pump. The fuel water separator (the one under the vehicle) catches most of it and debris. The filter on the engine catches the rest. The only way it would be rusted or contaminated would be if you don't change those or run additive. Which I take a fuel sample every oil change looking for water. And change the filters out every 15k miles at most. What's going on here is a giant sh*t show. They see fleet and think "they got money let's get customer pay instead of warranty" and it's a very bad tactic and should never be done. Fleet or not. No customer should be treated like this. Don't let it deter you from the powerstroke. You hear us talk about fuel pump failures but the actual percentage of the ones that fail out of all of them is very very low. As long as you run an good additive and keep the filters changed you should have nothing to worry about. I have some vehicle with upwards of 450k miles. Original pumps and Injectors. Now ford will tell you not to run the additive but in fine print it says run the motorcraft additive (that's the loophole) that's the additive at the parts counter. It really is a beast of a truck and you will be very happy with it.
@@BeardedFordTech thanks for the info… I kinda felt that way from begin with. I know there are a lot of trucks on the road that have no issues. I am a little concerned, I like to gas an go. Adding additives, DEP, rapid filter changes seems to be a little pricey and a lot more to worry about. What additive to you use for the fuel? I’m not real good with working on them so it could get expensive because I would be pay for someone like you to work on it….unless the filter changes are easy. I don’t mind doing it myself.
@@Rcol4427 filter changes are very easy. I have a video on how to do older ones. I'll have to do a video on a newer one. Just 5 8mm bolts underneath. I run Amsoil fuel additives in the fleet. A whole bottle for intake clean (16oz) then I have them put 8oz (half the bottle) everytime they get fuel(filling up not topping off). As far as gas goes I use Amsoil performance improver about every 8k miles (bottle says 4k). And upper cylinder lubricant every fill up. It's what keeps the upper portion of the combustion chamber lubricated. It does cost more to maintain a diesel. The filter kit is like $75-$90 depending on where you get it. I would love to service your truck. It would cost you a lot less than a dealership.
Yes. Oh my god yes. I had one ingest water the other day the "water in fuel drain filter" light came on. It never misfired or skipped a beat. Rode like nothing happened. Drained the filter. Sure enough. Had water in it. Haven't had any issues with any of the dcr we put in. If it was a cp4 that happened to it would have been toast. I highly recommend the dcr. Maybe a little pricey. But less than a new fuel system. Buy once cry once be done with it 😁
Think about the lack of fore thought that went into building a fuel system that gets completely contaminated when the pump fails. That don't make nooo sense! When the fuel pump on the 7.3 fails, I purchase a motorcraft pump for $150, swap it out with bad one and down the road I go.
Yep. I agree. The cp4 isn't a very well designed pump. That's why all the ones that went down after this. Or have low pump pressure got converted to the S&S DCR

Rust in the filler neck (which had nothing to do with warranty) but thats normal. Metal pipe. Moisture. If there is rust in the pressure control valve that indicates water is in the system. But none of that was present. It's been handled since. It got covered
@mattogle2582 awesome truck. If ypu get it when ypu go to finance. You don't need all the extra crap they try and sell. The only two things you need. And I can't stress this enough. Is GAP Insurance and ESP. Extended service protection (an extended warranty) everything else is upsell. It's a beast of a truck. I love them.
@@BeardedFordTech thanks man. Going through the same process with my 2020 F450 hauler. 57k and the CP4 pump grenaded. Service manager at Ford tried telling me the exact same thing, that the metal shavings in found in the VCV would void the warranty. Let’s just say I came into the conversation well-prepared and had the SM severely blindsided when i referenced the protocol in the bulletin. As a diesel tech myself I’m blown away with how quickly he tried to blame me for putting “gasoline in the diesel” LOL. Hoping this might get me over the hump with the warranty. Much thanks!

They very clearly did not follow the bulletin guidance and were searching for ways to make me liable, trying to run fuel samples off to a laboratory, etc. and after the truck sitting idle for weeks with unanswered phone calls, I reached out to the Ford dealer I actually purchased the truck from a few states away. They immediately did a search and matched it up with the CP4 pump part number and confirmed it would be covered under my warranty, as long as I had a way to get the truck over to their shop. They also had no clue why the other dealership was dicking me around on such a low mileage truck. Without your video here I would have been blindsided by all this. Much respect!
I pull a skid steer, weighs 16k with skid and trailer. Should I get the F350 Godzilla 7.3 gasser with 3.73 or 4.3 Tremor? Or take a risk with the diesel? I only tow about 3,000 / year and the ther 10,000 is daily driver. Plus I have 3 other trucks.
@@BeardedFordTech so spring for the diesel, cuz it pulls twice as hard, and then just trade it in or sell it at 95,000 miles, or 5 years whatever comes first? Probably sell for half the price, but that's better than repair bills.
My f350 is at the Machanic Shop as we speak. The water in fuel light came on and it lose power. Machanic says my fuel pumps and everything else have to be replaced because there were contamination in my fuel. And it completely destroyed everything. It is not covered under my Warranty. Is there anything that I can do about that?
What year is it? Ask to see it in person. Take pictures. Metal or algae on the vcv then it won't be covered under warranty. Just don't take their word for it. Tell them you want to see the vcv and pcv.
There's a reason it's the top selling truck and top selling fleet vehicle. People had ram and gave them back. Let's not even get started on Chevrolet. And who said anything about one breakdown? Kindaof Ironic. All the 6.0 repairs didn't cost the dealers 18,000 to fix like these new 6.7 Ford built power strokes cost Ford motor company when they're under warranty to fix. Think I'll be keeping my 7.3 and my 6 L and my 2015 has a 6.2 V8 gas in it. The 2017 that I bought that had a 6.7 power stroke in it. Yeah it got returned in within a week's time
The 6.7 is a great engine. And everyone hears us talk about it. But it's actually a very small percentage that fail. This one was an emergency vehicle so a little extra time was added. Non emergency your still looking at 12-15k. It's a lot of work to replace the fuel system. I love the 6.2 liter. I was a raptor with the 6.2 (11-14)

This is what worries me. I have a 6.7 HO F-350 scheduled for April production. I struggle with deciding on changing out the CP4 to the aftermarket S&S pump to avoid problems in spite of voiding my warranty. I hear people complaining the warranty is useless because they don’t honor it. So it seems like a better plan to change out the pump right off the bat versus taking a chance with a failure and getting hosed on the warranty. 18k is a lot of money to risk versus whatever the S&S pump costs.
I fought for this one. And we always tell people. We have to prove the part you put on caused a failure. I've put on about 10 S&S DCR pumps so far. And everyone of them run like a champ and run better. They can't deny a warranty if it doesn't fail right. If your cp4 fails you are going to jump through hoops. That's why I did this video to arm the viewer with as much information as possible to help them. But a 1900 dollar dcr is better than a 20k fuel system. Buy once cry once. Be done and keep on trucking. My honest opinion. Get the DCR

@@BeardedFordTech Then why does Ford continue to use this pump? GM used it 2011 to 2016 on the LML and is being sued. Fiat used it on the 2019 / 2020 6.7 Cummins and is recalling those trucks and putting a CP3 on. Here is Ford still using it WHY?

The problem is the bill rates are different. The profitability is much less on a warranty claim vs a customer pay. So there is no incentive to push warranty
Yeah I know. Warranty is 1.5 times less. But if it's covered under warranty then it should be treated as such. I worked in a dealer for a long time.

What i dont understand is they want 80-100k for a truck with a cp4..these shouldve been adressed a long time ago
@aaronphillips2728 you are correct. However on the 2019+ the buckets on the cp4 are pinned so they don't move. Do they still fail? Of course. Which is also why we put is DCR pumps from S&S motorsports

Should have got an FSE (Ford Service Engineer) involved. They work for Ford and not the dealer. They would be the judge of coverage.
I did get an engineer involved. And everyone I delt with works for ford. Dealers ate franchises. I've worked at many ford dealers. This has been handle and got covered. I have friends on the inside 😁
Dealers are going ABOVE and BEYOND to avoid billing warranty claims because they cant screw over the warranty companys as the repair costs are all pre determined. They cant just make up random charges
Yeah not for warranty. But this is factory warranty. Not third party company. And warranty is paid 1.5 times less than customer pay. So this being a ford under ford factory warranty. The dealership would charge ford for repairs. But ford will only lay 1.5 times less. So the tech makes less. It's a double edge sword.

@@Rcol4427 F250 powerstroke is a very reliable vehicle. There will always be some water in the fuel (gas and diesel). Gas is a little easier to maintain. If you get bad gas the computer usually compensates or get you some octane booster. As far as diesel to prevent it or keep it minimum at every fill up use a fuel additive. The diesel alone isn't enough to lubricate the high pressure pump. The fuel water separator (the one under the vehicle) catches most of it and debris. The filter on the engine catches the rest. The only way it would be rusted or contaminated would be if you don't change those or run additive. Which I take a fuel sample every oil change looking for water. And change the filters out every 15k miles at most. What's going on here is a giant sh*t show. They see fleet and think "they got money let's get customer pay instead of warranty" and it's a very bad tactic and should never be done. Fleet or not. No customer should be treated like this.
Don't let it deter you from the powerstroke. You hear us talk about fuel pump failures but the actual percentage of the ones that fail out of all of them is very very low. As long as you run an good additive and keep the filters changed you should have nothing to worry about. I have some vehicle with upwards of 450k miles. Original pumps and Injectors.
Now ford will tell you not to run the additive but in fine print it says run the motorcraft additive (that's the loophole) that's the additive at the parts counter.
It really is a beast of a truck and you will be very happy with it.
@@BeardedFordTech thanks for the info… I kinda felt that way from begin with. I know there are a lot of trucks on the road that have no issues. I am a little concerned, I like to gas an go. Adding additives, DEP, rapid filter changes seems to be a little pricey and a lot more to worry about. What additive to you use for the fuel? I’m not real good with working on them so it could get expensive because I would be pay for someone like you to work on it….unless the filter changes are easy. I don’t mind doing it myself.
@@Rcol4427 filter changes are very easy. I have a video on how to do older ones. I'll have to do a video on a newer one. Just 5 8mm bolts underneath. I run Amsoil fuel additives in the fleet. A whole bottle for intake clean (16oz) then I have them put 8oz (half the bottle) everytime they get fuel(filling up not topping off). As far as gas goes I use Amsoil performance improver about every 8k miles (bottle says 4k). And upper cylinder lubricant every fill up. It's what keeps the upper portion of the combustion chamber lubricated. It does cost more to maintain a diesel. The filter kit is like $75-$90 depending on where you get it. I would love to service your truck. It would cost you a lot less than a dealership.

Yes. Oh my god yes. I had one ingest water the other day the "water in fuel drain filter" light came on. It never misfired or skipped a beat. Rode like nothing happened. Drained the filter. Sure enough. Had water in it. Haven't had any issues with any of the dcr we put in. If it was a cp4 that happened to it would have been toast. I highly recommend the dcr. Maybe a little pricey. But less than a new fuel system. Buy once cry once be done with it 😁
Think about the lack of fore thought that went into building a fuel system that gets completely contaminated when the pump fails. That don't make nooo sense! When the fuel pump on the 7.3 fails, I purchase a motorcraft pump for $150, swap it out with bad one and down the road I go.
Yep. I agree. The cp4 isn't a very well designed pump. That's why all the ones that went down after this. Or have low pump pressure got converted to the S&S DCR

Rust in the filler neck (which had nothing to do with warranty) but thats normal. Metal pipe. Moisture. If there is rust in the pressure control valve that indicates water is in the system. But none of that was present. It's been handled since. It got covered

@mattogle2582 awesome truck. If ypu get it when ypu go to finance. You don't need all the extra crap they try and sell. The only two things you need. And I can't stress this enough. Is GAP Insurance and ESP. Extended service protection (an extended warranty) everything else is upsell. It's a beast of a truck. I love them.

@@BeardedFordTech thanks man. Going through the same process with my 2020 F450 hauler. 57k and the CP4 pump grenaded. Service manager at Ford tried telling me the exact same thing, that the metal shavings in found in the VCV would void the warranty. Let’s just say I came into the conversation well-prepared and had the SM severely blindsided when i referenced the protocol in the bulletin. As a diesel tech myself I’m blown away with how quickly he tried to blame me for putting “gasoline in the diesel” LOL. Hoping this might get me over the hump with the warranty. Much thanks!

They very clearly did not follow the bulletin guidance and were searching for ways to make me liable, trying to run fuel samples off to a laboratory, etc. and after the truck sitting idle for weeks with unanswered phone calls, I reached out to the Ford dealer I actually purchased the truck from a few states away. They immediately did a search and matched it up with the CP4 pump part number and confirmed it would be covered under my warranty, as long as I had a way to get the truck over to their shop. They also had no clue why the other dealership was dicking me around on such a low mileage truck. Without your video here I would have been blindsided by all this. Much respect!

Won't hurt anything. As far as warranty. It is an emissions device and that's considered "tampering" that would be the techs decision.

I pull a skid steer, weighs 16k with skid and trailer. Should I get the F350 Godzilla 7.3 gasser with 3.73 or 4.3 Tremor? Or take a risk with the diesel? I only tow about 3,000 / year and the ther 10,000 is daily driver. Plus I have 3 other trucks.
6.7 is what you need. That's what I would go with in my honest opinion.

My f350 is at the Machanic Shop as we speak. The water in fuel light came on and it lose power. Machanic says my fuel pumps and everything else have to be replaced because there were contamination in my fuel. And it completely destroyed everything. It is not covered under my Warranty. Is there anything that I can do about that?
What year is it? Ask to see it in person. Take pictures. Metal or algae on the vcv then it won't be covered under warranty. Just don't take their word for it. Tell them you want to see the vcv and pcv.
