Nice overview. I used to go 30 years ago when I was closer. Even then you could get stuck in mile after mile of stop and go traffic to Laguna Seca. You could smell coffee and burned clutch lining on every hill.
I was fortunate in that my dad was the GM at the Lodge from 1964 to 1972, so I grew up with what was known then as Gwen Graham's Concours d'Elegance. In those days it was still a benefit for the Monterey Peninsula Children's hospital. Today it's unrecognizable in scale and tone. The traffic is impenetrable and the prices to attend most events are obscene. The Quail has even eclipsed Pebble Beach in many ways. At least the show driving on the streets of Monterey, Carmel and PG are great and free of charge.
They say if you forget the past, you will repeat it, well they could do worse than relaunching updated cars from the past! Class, Avant-garde and freedom to take chances! I keep hearing that Cadillac is bringing back a new version of the Eldorado, if so sign me up! Great show as always, and one thing, if classic car market is dropping so will the economy and this terrible market will destroy many of the brands we care about!
16:40 did that kid just walk past that f50 and take a pic of a sonata😂
It’s an N Line . . . Kid is based.
Kids don't know what to like yet. My pick at that age was the 928!
@@cratecruncher4974 the kid must’ve been from Europe as they don’t sell the sonata there, kinda like how when us Americans go to Europe and freak out over the cars we don’t get
Cobble Beach Concours (2hrs north of Toronto) is Canada's version of Pebble Beach
Well said
Last Na V12 , heard that a lot
Many auto manufacturers cannot afford the cost of car show shows anymore!😮
I wish I could attend Vegas concourse in November next month I’m here now at the Wynn and it looks bomb
Mama Mia! Lots of very kewl stuff! What was your favorite car there, M?
Excellent work, M. I always enjoy these episodes.
Cheers!
The Bulldog was my clear favorite but there were many 'runners up'. That Frua bodied Maserati you see in this episode was beyond lovely. Peter's GT40 has to be seen in person to appreciate. And then the dark choice: There was a 1967 Chevrolet Impala SS convertible, 4 Speed at Bonham's this year that almost became Eva's roomate:)
@@MotoManTV I'm partial to the 64, but the 67 is lovely, very underappreciated.
Yeah, those were very cool cars.
Fine video of 2024 Monterey Car week, thanks. However … This year’s somewhat soft classic car market is a canary in the coal mine? Late summer volatility and relativity conservative classic car purchases is not a serious economic metric. And we know now that the month ended with positive returns in both fixed income, assets and equities.
Saw you at Luft, great event!
Loved that it returned to Universal Studios Back Lot . . .
By the way, M, did you a chance to check out Touring Superleggera's new project? The Veloce12? (13:04 at the background)
I'm generally a fan of their work, but chopping up a Maranello? In the immortal words of the late don Corleone, That, I cannot do.
There was so much there was able to see it.
Still think you need that custom jacket with the lining to match your seats. At least get custom made Vans with a photo of that fabric on them for cheap. 17:22
Completely agree about the jacket!
@@MotoManTV Vans - Under Shoe Select - Customize: Select Add Your Image. The Styles are wide, colors of every little stitch and part of your own choosing all for $20 upgrade…are you hearing the option list total you OEM’s? 😁 For the jacket I know a seamstress out Belmont side of the US. Starting with a great fitting jacket is obviously the starting base upon which to glorify with your extra fabric.
Thanks for this unpretentious curated amalgam of knowledge, camaraderie and humor.
My pleasure!
16:35 kid walked pass a F50 and a Dino and started taking picture of a Hyundai...
Funny behind the scenes story on that one: It was the car we drove up from LA but as mentioned in the episde, we had another car during the event so it sat there in the parking lot of the hotel amongst the fanciest of cars and in doing so, became the most rare 4 wheeled conveyance in the lot . . . and yes, it was an N Line:)
Very informative. Thank you!
That mid engined Corvette concept @ 11:26 (AeroVette?) hit me right in the feels. So many incredible machines!
I spent FAR too much time hanging around that car!
Thank you for bringing us to Pebble to the fancy cars - awesome to watch. The Maserati looks sick! Really really good. Love the view on the classic cars like the Bulldog (never seen one), the new Ferrari 12C, wonderful car culture over there!
is Kadoorie still around
Sir Michael Kadoorie is very active in the classic car world and the Kadoorie family founded Peninsula Hotels (The Quail and Quail Motorsports Gathering).
@@MotoManTV i know. i used to work at Quail when kadoorie bought the property. those were fun times
The Paso Robles Airport Car Show is so much more than user friendly and really not so damn prudish
Nice to meet you at Quail this year!
How does a simple car reviewer have the scratch for a garage like that? Blower Bentley? Come on, now....
He used to work in the tech industry, as well. Might still be receiving royalties for something he created/co-created, but don't quote me on that much.
Interesting topic, would go to Pebble beach? I feel more comfortable at Deni ute muster, as i meet old mates, we walk n talk looking at utes. But mine aka Pebble Beach moment was going to CaseIH demonstration day introducing new Magnum Rowtrac, it wasn't just test drive a tractor that i never get to drive because its expensive n limited type of tractor but i got talk to engineers, relating good/bad points with different tractors. These engineers not only demonstrate but take note which i seen improvements in their tractor range. Going to dealerships you get pre judge, doesn't feel comfortable, some saleman are rude others like hearing stories, that one time this saleman came back with merchandise for free, he genuinely enjoy our company in talking tractors. I still have dealer here that enjoy me coming to dealership n talking.
Looks like an event where no one uses a turn signal.
But really incredible cars that I dreamed about when I was a teen.
Camping sites in Big Sur are booked out for a year, so it definitely needs planning.
Also Rivian had G-wagen’s tank turn much earlier but they decided to priorities threading lightly on offroad trails to prevent soil erosion… Mercedes on the other hand leans into the douchebag image
Definitely consider the Audrian Concours and Motor Week in Newport, RI. A great fall event in a beautiful seaside New England town.
Audrain is a great event . . .
Not only do I learn so much about autos and their industry when I watch MotoMan but I also get tips about the stock market. I guess I am going to go defensive for next year….:)
Thanks MM!
My god do I love cars. Excellent video.
Pebble Beach also known for golf.
I was wondering why all the barren sandy spots. Thanks.
I got to attend this year for two days and still barely scratched the surface. What an amazing showcase and stunning location. Planning on going back next year, God willing!
Looks like a blast. Maybe spend the weekend and play a round as well.
Buy now. Cars will be racing up during the next year as they follow the stock market and crypto.
If you're looking to sell, sell at Pebble next year. 2026 the market will fall again.
ok, this is out of my league and experience but must be nice to be around that show. the 12 cilindri is, as far as i can see, a really good looking car and would love to see it in the flesh. Being able to share this experience with other people who share this hobbie must be quite an attractive plan.
Face it. Even your cars are losing value. Sucks, don't it ?
You're sandbagging us. You are highly unlikely to be either the poorest or the dumbest person in any room. In fact, I'd wager the opposite is often the case.
That's the whole point: There is ALWAYS a room filled with folks you can learn from.
