I remember an old interview of the Beatminerz, they said they used an Akai S-612 and I think a Casio sampler for the entire Enta Da Stage album. They said, they couldn't afford an SP-1200 or S-950 until after the album was released.
And this mf was fire man wow!!
Got a response from Da Beatminerz on Twitter... they used "AKAI 612 Sampler & Casio SK100. Put the samples on CASSETTE and then took them to the studio." Apparently I was way off.
I've seen the pics of their setup... crazy/amazing
Dude!! Can you please do more videos man!!?
Man this is one of the hardest beats ever in hip hop!!!
I bugged the (bleep) out when I was digging through pops crates and came across Ronnie Laws "Pressure Sensitive." Turned on 'Tidal Wave' and was like, "I need to start making beats!
Thank you so much! This has helped immensely in learning production and sampling
The crackling sound of a spinning record is what you're missing along with all the natural flaws that make the beat what it is. In alot of old tracks, you can hear gaps in them overtaken by the words for cover up. We liked it that way, it's gritty. Sounds like bacon frying in the background . Like the track was created in somebody's kitchen with the munchies . Find that sample, take some pitch out. Lower the quality. There was no sharp hi definition sound back then. I still like what u did.
Love this show. This and my man deepcrates. Love it.
I give you a 1000 thumbs up for your honesty... Did you know that they rocked multiple SP-1200's, SP-12 turbo, and S900/S950 and MPC-3000... but mainly SP as you said!
I really don't like the SP1200 filter because it sounds too "digital". When I adjust the pitch of a sample with the SP1200 filter on, I get some strange results... I'm not sure if it's my setup (OSX Lion w/ M-Audio FireWire Solo) or the Maschine software. The MPC60 one is better but not "on point".
@Deconstructing Hip Hop Wow, nice to hear. I'd like to know, what brand/model of headphones are you wearing and what rating would you give them?
man loved this song when I first heard it
I know this is an old video but here's a few tips for the drums.. they sound a bit faster than I remember the song.. I believe they were pitched/slowed down a bit, which also helps fatten them up. DJ Premier used to do this as well. Regarding the Maschine emulators, you get better results when you pitch the sample up a good bit, around 6-8 semi tones, resample, and pitch back down. Hope this helps somebody ✌
Sampling from vinyl the turntable, the needle and preamps of the mixer can also factor the tonal quality of the end product too, not just the sampler
Did you use/try Maschine's SP 1200 Vintage Mode?
DOPE. My fav part is the chorus though. Whats that bell sample, and the "c,mon" vocal?
The C'Mon sample is from "Fantastic Freaks At The Dixie" off the Wildstyle soundtrack
Doesn't the Maschine have emulators to sound like the SP-1200? Do you use those to try to get some of the effect?
I was debating coming up with a plugin chain to get the sound that I want but the old-school in me tells me to dig out my old technics tape deck from my mom's basement and run the sample through there a couple of times lol
Depending on processing up and downstream,(so to speak),two plugins can get you close to that elusive old School vibe,112db Morgana, and Decimort. For me,these plugs will take you 90% of the way there.Combined with a bit of subtle distortion from something like Izotope Trash, and Vos' Density for compression, and most people won't know the difference,(including a lot of pro's by btw)
I always thought the drums sounded more like Cameo's Rigor Mortis.
What gave the sp 1200 that sound is the low sample rate 27.5 kHz to 26.04 kHz
"Take It Personal" Gang Starr. Dang, EVERYONE has sampled that Skull Snaps record!
you are 100% right about the 45 king and hard knock life. if you watch his rhythm roulette video he does nothing but fuck with the record
Can u put a download link?
Not sure if I hear what you're talking about. The only thing they mentioned me not getting right (via Twitter) was the gear I said they used
dude, fuck yeah
Good stuff .. Very informing .. I won't lie .. I dead thought I could just remake who got the props just like that .. Noooope #Bruh 😏
You are also missing the layers of percussion Beatminerz uses... under the kick and the snare.
no replacement for a 12-bit sampler lol
BeyerDynamics DT770 Pro (250 Ohm version). Go to gdgt[dot]com[forward slash]profile[forward slash]rogergil and click on the picture for a full review (sorry, can't post direct links here)
One thing I can hear right away is that you can't emulate the swing of the SP-1200...
What about the bridge or chorus part of this song? It's a different sample and shit.
I wish I could but that would most likely get the channel flagged for removal... can't distribute content that I don't own :(
Take it personal that's the whole first 6 seconds on daily operation!!
Who’s watching this in 2021
I love technical sstuff with producing and audio... Thats just me I guess.
S950 has time stretch,Good job though.
You are missing one more sample. That would beeeee! Listen to the drums. Think you can guess it. Not just skull snaps. Listen carefully.
Sp 1200 cost 6000 on ebay.
5:41 Thats why you need the Renni my G! lol JK!
I did... it doesn't yield the results I'm looking for most of the time.
Yooooo .. Could You do Crooklyn?? ...
No SP1200 used in this song. Maschine is actually pretty good at it... I just don't always invest the time #Lazy
😨😱😨😱😨😱😨😱😨😱😨😱😨😱😨
It does but they don't sound "right" to me... it's all subjective I guess
They used two break beats on that beat….
You got good ears. Without giving the other break away l just wanted to see if anyone noticed.
