I used to put the speakers on full & set them on my paddio overlooking South Dowling st in Paddington, Sydney, NSW & hit one of Sydney's most crowded street with this on full ball when it came out. I just thought "Everyone NEEDS to hear this" lol ;D
This is the best & hottest piece on the record, an absolute emotional journey through the plain, the space sound of the 70s! 👏 👏 👏 👏 When the record came out, it was already playing in the "SOUND" discotheque on Genthiner Strasse in Berlin / Germany. The record was well received. I still received it today and very well. The first record, I had it delivered to me on the day of publication! 👍 👌 ✌ I would have paid 1000 DM for it, I don't care. A really cool musician, this Tim - Nelson Blake.
Tim has a lovely melodic touch. I was lucky enough to see him live at least 4 times on his Crystal machine tour and also caught him in Paris at Gong's first reunion. I also have seen him with Hawkwind. He is a great advertisement for the sensible consumption of cannabis.
I love Hawkwind since '72 when I took acid for the 1st time & listened to 'In Search Of Space' for the 1st time....ALL NIGHT!~~ He's a better advertisement for the sensible & knowledgeable use of LSD & shoom's as it's a lot easier to loose it if acid or shoom's are used without set, set & setting ;)
I would love to have seen them in 1979. Live 79 was a big favourite album of mine when I was 17 in 1982/83. Tim added a certain magic to the sound, especially with Huw Lloyd Langton's guitar. The band should have held onto him and not just let him slip through their fingers.
This music is very special to me. I bought a vinyl copy of this album more than 30 years ago, and it has been my companion through good times and bad. I still have it, and it's in near-perfect condition. Occasionally I pull it out and play it to remember and bask in the good vibes. Thanks to you, Moonweed, for playing it and for keeping this wonderful music alive for new listeners.
I have a personally signed vinyl copy of this, probably about 40 years old and spent a very pleasant afternoon drinking beer in the company of Mr Blake
I was alos luck 2 see Tim live in NEW YORK at a small club. Had the chance 2 hang out, have a drink, and show him a magic trick. Still 1 of my all tyme favorite musicians.

Great to see a video of this with great sound. I saw Tim in Hawkwind live with my big brother, and he brought home this Crystal Machine album. Became obsessed with analogue synths from this time on. If find this far more interesting (and human even) than much modern electronic music - for example the endless dull film scores of Hans Zimmer produced with a vastly superior technology.
It's like stepping back into 1983 when I bought it. I was attracted to the back of the album cover. The optical illusion of the the yellow star. I was already a fan of hawkwind by then but had no idea they had worked together. It's great to see him performing this after all these years. Brings back memories of tripping on mushrooms with my very close friends and my first love Jackie. Best times of my life.
Que de souvenirs d'adolescence ! J'adorais ce morceau, et je me souviens d'un concert magique de Tim à Orsay en 1978 ou 79 dont l'enregistrement très soigné par "C.P" n'est pas (encore?) disponible en ligne...

My favorite synth player... your music has continued to guide me peacefully through my young, intense life. You’ve caused me to pick up synthesizers myself, I obsess over your work. Your mini moog sounds are the most psychedelic along with Bernie Worrell or even klaus schulze. But your music is just more important to me on a personal level than parliament funkadelic or most other things. You must tell me how you came to understand brainwave entrainment in the way you utilized that concept in your work long before it was ever known scientifically that our brain waves are tunable with these machines... surely you must have known back then that these machines were interacting with your brains neurological functions.
My 2 favourite Gong tracks were Other Side of the Sky and Sprinkling of Clouds which showcased Tim's work but within the framework of Gong. I had this album over 40 years ago and its predecessor. Very interesting sound although I preferred this within a larger group as it provided a context for the sound and a limitation. Shame Moonweed and Alien seemed to be at loggerheads as Gong was a perfect foil for this sound and vision.
no this wasnt live- its from a french tv special and clearly all the other tracks are taped- you can watch all the other songs from the album on this french show if you search
The competition was tough at that time. In addition, TB arrived after the solar's explosions of Tangerine Dream He and KS were the big soft heads of those sidereal times ..... He left no trace in the history of electronic music
"No trace" - a comment that left its trace of stupidity across three years. Firstly, several albums of excellent quality, still in print. Secondly, deep collaborations with Hawkwind and Gong. Thirdly, inspired JMJ to make his music. Fourthly, pioneered the electronic music and laser light show experience with Patrice Warrener. That was the trace TB left.
Over 11 mins of great lazer beam sounds. I think it's time for a Tim Blake solo DVD. There's gotta be enough footage out there to make one fantastic spaced out DVD?
@@bendream544 thank you! I've only just noticed your reply. By the way, how he's managed to stay so close to the album version is beyond me! Excellent!
@@davegillett7135 it actually is the album version as he is only miming on the video. Some promo thing he was doing at the time, its a shame because I know that a few live recordings have been made over the years e.g 25th birthday Gong weekend and Gong unconvention weekend are 2 I can think of straight away but I think its a matter of money (as usual) that has got in the way of any official releases of his live stuff, which is a shame as I have seen him a few times and the live experience is top notch, although obviously the laser show doesn't translate well onto cds . Here's hoping for a DVD getting the go ahead in the future. Also check out Clear Light Symphony if you haven't already heard it....features tim blake and others
@@bendream544 hi Ben, I realised that it was the album version after I posted the comment. I was watching his fingers playing the lead line note for note. Anyway I felt a bit daft after but never mind. On an aside, l found that Tim must have read some books by John Michell who was an exceedingly interesting character. Glastonbury wouldn't be Glastonbury without him! I'll revisit Clearlight after years of not hearing it. Best wishes Dave

The fact there's no microphone for him to sing into is a pretty obvious clue he's miming here. And if you look closely none of the synths seem to be turned on.

Hans Zimmer utilizes a huge, original Moog modular...
