That’s why some of the best stories that Sivaji Ganeshan acted failed because of over acting, excessive depiction of emotions and inappropriate make up!
In Muthal Mariyaathai Bharthiraja made certain none of that happened! That’s why lesser mortals thought that it would fail whereas he backed the right Stallion, The Great Sivaji Ganeshan!

That's right. BUT, the First factor is Selvaraj's Haunting Story, Bharathi Raja's beautiful Screen Play and excellent performance by all the actors. Without these factors, nothing could make a film so successful. Glaring samples are Sridhar's Nenjirukkum varai and Bharathi Raja's Kadhal Oviyam. Despite excellent music, both these films didn't have a successful Run due to dragging screen play.

Cannot imagine the movie without Ilayaraja Music. But Bharathiraja is bold directory with great vision
@@amusam7325 Pls Watch Bharathiraha's Vedam Pudhidhu. Music by Devendran. That film too had a very good screenplay. Without a good script and a beautiful screenplay, nothing would work. Everything else will fall in place automatically once the Screenplay is made gripping. A few more best examples are K Viswanath's masterpiece SankarabharaNam (which didn't even have any star actor and the story & screenplay was beautifully knitted with a Carnatic music background and which had a historic run in Andhra, Tamilnadu, Karnataka and Kerala). Sivaji Starrer Keezh Vaanam Sivakkum had an excellent screenplay by Visu and direction by Mukta V Srinivasan. So too, Malayur Mambatiyaan, Ucha Kattam and AAasai.
That's the power of Shri Nadigar Thilakam.
Sad that illayarara and Panjuarunachalam didn't know about our gr8 Shivaji Sir reputation. 👍🙏

Barathiraja really great
It seems the comments reveal as if the director only knows and having hope with that movie. And more over the then directors viz., Barathi raja K.S. Ravikumar were proud of claiming -having directed such a great actor. Sivaji Ganesan acted many no.of movies with innumerable characters roles under many many great directors. The Old Director L.V.Prasad appreciated the perfomance of Sivaji ganesan which is beyond the imagination/expectation of director with more perfection. This capacity can be found only with the great actor Sivaji ganesan not with any actor in India and in world also. The only actor acted nearly five generation and got succeed not only in acting and in box office also.
Sivaji's statement : asked the director what actually you want that I can give. Everybody knows and Sivaji himself declared Director`s actor. That does not mean the actor is not knowing anything.The narration simply reveals the indifference (no logic in saying dialogue runs to pages with full make up etc.,) and want to claim/ show the credit of the director. Nadigar Thilagam already acted in Sridhar`s movie without make up not with much dialogue. A real Sivaji Fan (who witnessed 1952 onwards till 1989) can understand and who is great. In general sense ex: A father sometimes who accepts appreciates his son/child`s opinion/advice whenever needed, that does not mean that father is not knowing anything not aware of anything (generation gap) father only knows/realizes for the improvement/encouraging of child or son. This type of father is always adored/adorable for his greatness in all aspects. If the child/son wants to become great like father he should also follow the father`s decorum. Vaarisu nadigargal - Vijay is a present super star and got succees in cine field mainly because of father(one of the best directors son) with that background guidance mould etc., whereas without having own indivual skill no other actor (especially cinema vaarisu) finds difficult to get succeed. One of the great directors viz., iyakkunar sigaram directed Ehiroli with Nadigar thilagam. It is said this movie was very much expected in grand success. First of all I didn`t expect much about the movie. Before producing the movie after hearing the story of Edhiroli , Sivaji said the result of the movie would not be upto the expectation(sariyaga poagaathu). This I read in monthly cine movie magazine. Accordingly the story- movie was not much suitable for the director. It escaped to some extent because of the great actor. Yes the director is only suitable to new comers and not for stalwarts. I used to watch all movies of the said Director in the first day itself. Almost in all the movies the performance of artist character sketched out according to director`s own style.The uniformity in mannerism/style in artists esp., in new comers was enjoyable/appreciable. But the introduced artists became more successful after starting to act with other type of movies with other suitable directors. Ex: Kamal, Rajini. Ofcourse the basic credit went to the Director Iyakkunar Sigaram. Now the present generation without knowing about the greatness of stalwart claiming the credit of Bharathi Raja. Why Manoj didn`t get successful atleast just average actor. I enjoyed almost all of Bharathi Raja`s movie at the time of release. It is regret to note that ignoring the past history of Nadigar Thilagam (movies, directors, taste of each generation, performance of roles/actions, appreciation,recognitions etc.,) just mocking the previous older/oldest one, claiming that theirs is great. That's why Sivakumar once commented Nadigar Thilagam should have avoided acting in Thevar Magan. But in Thevar Magan the performance of Sivaji was very much suitable to that period of generation. (enjoyed this movie fist half only) That`s all. Proved evergreen actor in acting for all generation. This Narration is only for the sake of interest in telling the story. Of course the new wave director `s credit lies with outdoor shooting in villages expert in rustic themes. Read the review of 16 vayadinalae at the time of release in different weeklies and dailies. And also I read the review of the same movie after 2000 in website which was totally different (ulta - the generation gap). It is not so easy to understand the yester generations taste credit greatness. Especially a ture full Sivaji Fan should have wide/larger knowledge about acting and other cinematic techniques about the period of generations. I have been enjoying 1930 onwards from Hollywood movies to Kollywood. Afterall they were all our fathers grand fathers grand grand fathers generation. Without them we can not get succeed/not claim credit.

There is only ONE Sivaji EVER. There is another story that SPB was considered for Sivaji's role first.
That is Shankar's kadhalan movie and the role is Prabhu deva's role.
