This video was really helpful in making my kicks more punchy, but my kicks still don't sound as good as the one in the intro to this video (one of them is the Torontos kick from the Nick Mira Forge Drum Kit). My kicks get really bright sounding when I add these effects and when I try to eq the highs out of the kicks, they become super muddy. How do I fix this?
You don't need the amplify in edison part. You can go into the wrench in the sampler and turn the VOL knob up. Gives you better control and lets you preview the "amplify" effect live.
It’s because he was in FL12, he says that in the beginning. FL 11 had it, they took it away for FL12 and then brought it back after. You probably have FL20 or higher currently so yes you can go the to wrench 🔧 and skip the Edison part of this video.
The only producer unselfish enough to give the sauce. Thank you sir! Would you also recommend using a limiter on the master, side chaining the kick & 808, & maybe using multiband compressor on the master?
@@aaronmosley7488 some transients may pass through and may make the overall track seem quieter. However, if you subtly limit the transients, then you have more headroom, which will ultimately lead to louder playback
Great stuff! Would add a compressor after Maximus to add some punch, but will definitely try to incorporate your suggestions on my next track to test it out as well.
On mamas I followed your exact steps and it legit made my kick way lower in DB and basically did nothing. I'm assuming it only helps when doing this if your initial kick sample is super quiet or compressed heavily.
I don't know too much about FL Studio, but, this video makes adding a track and EQ look like the most complicated process in the world. That and getting into the Edison editor...
Anyone watching this with Fl 20. The first step in edison on this video can be done thru the sample itself on a knob called "boost", you should turn on a button called "clip" right underneath it. Other than that this tutorial is G thanks bro.
02:05 When I use Amp to raise the kick sound it starts to have a rattling noise. When I raised the volume on the kick channel itself it became louder but didn't rattle. Hm.
I just tested the difference between raising the volume of the kick and raising it using Amp in Edison and it does get punchier. But the problem I'm having is that it is also adopting a rattling sound. I'm not sure if that's because of my headphones not being up to pair to handle the bass or what.
YOU ARE SO UNSELFISH ON GIVING THE SECRET SAUCE💕 BTW. I AM JUST NOOB WHEN MAKING BEATS AND MASTERING IT. I NEED SOMEONE TO TEACH ME HOW TO USE THAT THINGS YOU ARE USING. I HOPE YOU NOTICE THIS COMMENT💕
Javier If you have a hard kick to use already then you could still use this method. Just don’t over amplify the kick till it’s completely distorted. 🙏🏾👨🏾🚀
ma kicks r either to quiet or to loud, should i normalize them in edison? cuz i saved 3 kicks and all of them got a different volume it's very annoying
During the Maximus Plugin section, you explained about setting the MID PRE to "minus three" ( -3dB ) but following the demonstration on screen, it looked as though you actually set it at "three above Zero" ( +3dB) - just above the MidLine. Was this a simple mistake? If so, firstly - don't feel bad! But which side of Maximus' 0dB midline did you actually intend/mean? Or, if the confusion is attributable to you perhaps referencing a different metering convention, ie. [dBu] [dBm] [dBV] etc. - rather than that used by Maximus - I won't ask you to clarify which in particular but could you please confirm/dismiss if it is in-fact the case while answering my above question. Please? And thanks And thanks again!
Good tutorial bro🧢. One big problem I have come across in the mastering process after mixing though is that when I finally want to put a limiter on the master to bring the overall volume of the track up, the kick is then wayyyy too loud and ends up either distorting or just being compressed badly. If you could make a tutorial on how to have a punchy and loud kick that survives the mastering process that would be dope.
That is why sidechain exists bro. You have a lot of ways to sidechain it. Fruity Peak Controller with an EQ, Fruity Limiter, also you can do Fruity Balance automations.
Sidechaining & getting your kick into the same scale as your song (pitch it around until it's not clashing with your 808s) are two wicked useful things I've used a lot

that's what i thought, didn't he just turn up the volume?
@@iloveketchup20 most of these youtubers have no idea what they're actually talking about just EQ the kick and put a soft clipper on it

Don't limit your master? That would crush the sound without giving it the correct loudness

Extremely helpful techniques. Can be applied to updated versions of FL Studio as well. Thanks Nova!
My man just high passed a kick.

This is the best tutorial for me, I've spent so long EQing the shit out my kick with distorting results. This is it man, thank you
I was applying it while watching, and also writing notes down ,yoh thank you a lot

🙇💯🔥 thank you so much. I needed that amp step. Dropped 6beats without knowing it. Now gotta drop 12 with this tip. 😈

When u fixed the kick in edison to make it hit hard, why did it still sound the same after u fixed it?

THIS IS PERFECT!
Thank you man
Bro when I put maximus into my mixer it makes my whole song sound blurred up, how do I make these plug ins only apply to my kicks?
don't add to the master. route your kick to a mixer channel (for example "Insert 1") then add the plugin to that "Insert 1" in the mixer
Bruh my kicks sound like It pushes narcotics 😭 ly so much man
loved it
Can you do a transition tutorial?
You are my hero
Thank you my guy, truly helped me out a ton!
The first step in edison wasn't needed; you literally just boosted the volume of the kick. it didnt get punchier.
Exactly, he attempted to hard clip but it didn't really work. Hard clipping has to be done through the mixer via a plugin

is it possible to use the stock fl studio kick? i dont have the same kick as you do, how to make it anyway? im new in making beats.

Lol, then turn down your kick. Sounds like your boosting your low/mid end up to much.
