  • In a previous video I made a few different types of ONE PIECE lidded jars.
    In this video I’m going to make a Double Decker version.
    There are few things I need to pay extra attentions for the double decker version.
    I hope you enjoy the video and make one.

    I love your fantastic videos and long for learning to make the jars you have demonstrated🥰. I thought of making a stick like the one you used inside the pot, for the bottom and the sides. Could you, please, tell me approximately the measurements🙏

    • @AlchemyCeramic
      @AlchemyCeramic  Год назад +2

      Thank you for your comment Evmast😊. I’m so glad to hear you are going to make a tool! it is exciting. The bottom measurement is 1.5 x 4.5 cm. it means 1.5 cm is the thickness of the wood. the length is 28 cm. you need to sand and polish the edges. in the beginning I found using this tool is not easy, but after few practice it became one of my best tools. Let me know your experience 😉

    I am always tempted to leave the bat pins in while trimming on the bare wheel like you do here as it is a pain to constanly be screwing them on and off, but i am sure I'd smash my knuckles or my piece would get loose and crash into one of them.

    • @AlchemyCeramic
      @AlchemyCeramic  Год назад

      Thank you for your comment Death by Darwin😊 (interesting handle name!) Yes I agree with you. I have never broken my works by those pins luckily, but I hit my knuckles many times😭. Now I’v got used to pins position so those don’t bother me anymore. Many potters use just clay to attach the bat on the wheel. I do for small bat. If I don’t have pins already I would use same method for large bat too.

    • @ninapesner3434
      @ninapesner3434 Год назад

      Just keep a dry bat on the wheel. I wouldn’t want to be thinking of my knuckles. Just concentrate on the work.

    Hello. I love your work so much and find your throwing and trimming processes the most helpful for me, more than any others. I was wondering if you could do a video on your glazing technique? Your finished pieces are always so beautiful. All my best and thank you for all of your posts.

    These are excellent! I am curious why you include a gallery in the lower pieces since there’s already a flange to stop the lid from sinking. Is it for extra security?

    • @AlchemyCeramic
      @AlchemyCeramic  8 месяцев назад +1

      Thank you for your comment Denise😊. The reason for the lower part’s gallery is to match the top part. It is just my preference.
      I posted new video which doesn’t have gallery version. I hope that video will also useful.

      Thank you for your comment Basimaa😊 I stopped teaching for a while as I don’t have enough time for that. Instead of teaching I have started to post the videos then I can share my experiences with fellow potters.
      If some part is not clear please let me know I will include that in the future videos.

    What is lava clay exactly and where do buy it?

    • @AlchemyCeramic
      @AlchemyCeramic  11 месяцев назад

      Thank you for your question Heeresma😊 This is a mixture of Stoneware Sanded Buff clay and 10% Lava clay from Potclay. Lave clay gives nice freckles!

    • @heeresma
      @heeresma 11 месяцев назад

      I live in the Netherlands. I am not familiar with sanded buff clay nor lava clay. Is Sanded Buff clay mixed with charmotte? If so, what percentage? Is this Lava Clay the Lavafleck 1200-1270 from Potclays?
      Can you explain also the construction of the bottom of the upper pot more clearly? Sorry for this many questions…

    • @heeresma
      @heeresma 11 месяцев назад

      And is the Sanded Buff the Sanded Buff Premium 1100-1290 from Potclays?

    • @AlchemyCeramic
      @AlchemyCeramic  11 месяцев назад

      Hi Heeresma😊 Netherlands! I’m so glad my videos are reaching to Dutch people ❤️ Yes my clay is from Potclay and both clay you mentioned is the correct one. I believe you can find stoneware rough clay in Netherlands. it should not be too groggy for the throwing (for your hand) . Then mix any lava type of clay about 10% to get freckles.
      You can mix Mica also. This is not the clay. This is powder base. I haven’t tried by myself but I know other potter use it to get freckles.
      The Glaze should be transparent type to maximize the outcome.
