This deck should 100% have Mardu Triome instead of Temples. If you have a Triome you never have to worry about being punished for putting your Pathway on White to cast Extus. I also recommend trying Kroxa instead of Woe Strider.

You have to try a brawl deck built around the extus sorcery, it’s a ton of fun. Just a bunch of cheap saccable creatures and yoink spells. If you can get some kind of recursion going like broodmoth, nightmare shepherd, lurrus, it can be hard for opponents to keep any creatures on board.

Also at 54:20 bouncing the Bastion wouldn't do anything as the triggers already would have been on the stack because sacing the creatures to the Plumb is an additional cost, so there would have been no moment for Brazen Borrower or any kind of Bounce effect to have stopped Bastion from triggering.

I've been running Mutual Destruction in Pest and Sac decks. Most of the time a better removal spell that Heartless Act and Bloodchief's Thirst. Cheaper, no conditions, you're happy to sac a pest or opponent's creature anyway.
What do you think about running a lone floating plains in your mana? Because of Environmental Sciences and Fabled Passage, you can pretty much get it any time you'd wanna put out Extus. Another thought: perhaps Hall of Oracles or two. You play a lot of sorceries so you can gain a lot of counters on anything you actually want to keep, and it's a filter land in case you get flooded with just one type of color. I'm probably overthinking things as is my MO. Feedback appreciated from any of you fine folk Edit: while thinking about it some more, I really like having a few Halls for when you plan to actually Extus face side. Gaining counters on a double strike creature is rude.
On my matches with this deck I rarely use the front side of Extus and usually always go with Avatar even on late game. Playing Extus really invites arsenal of removal without us doing anything with some miniscule exception, while with Avatar you forces opponent to sac and potentially eat 3 or 6 total damage to face. The use of Hall of Oracles is very intriguing because of Eyetwitch's highway of hitface, but maybe when using Kroxa instead of Woe Strider, the land may hinder Kroxa's early arrival on board, but it is very promising to include.
@@Vernius_ I've experimented around with the deck as best I can since I posted this comment. I only have 3 Extus/Blood Avatar, and while I usually use it for Blood Avatar, I face side Extus a lot depending on a lot of things. If I still have non-token creatures on the board and a Village Rites, and the right mana base, I cast him face side up and Village Rites to immediately regrab the thing I sacrificed. It's fun. The bigger thing for including white in your land base is to add Reduce to Memory. That card is amazing in a Sac outlet deck. Ran into a mirror match, zapped his Bastion into a 3/2, then stole his 3/2 with Claim the Firstborn to slap face. It's an effective way to deal with >4 MV creatures, too. And I am running Mascot Interception instead of Akroan War out of necessity but I rather like it. That +2 damage ilcan be really big. It combos with R2M, and can steal big things in a pinch as long as I've got my sac battery going. I run just 2 Hall of Oracles but it's worth the inclusion especially if you face side Extus. I also am running Immersturm Predator instead of Woe Strider because he's a better solo win con. I found my turn 3 was very frequently either just casting Bastion or doing a snatch n sac, so having more 3 drops didn't seem to affect me much. Deck still has some flaws, but I'm enjoying it!
Any chance of a brawl build with Extus/Awaken as commander? While we’re on the topic, Elder dragon brawl decks? Regardless, love the content! Thank you for everything, CGB!
51:29 forbidden friendship was a potential play. Would have had three 1/1’s. They would have still stolen the bastion, but wouldn’t have attacked due to attack back. Then CGB could do attacks + third bastion/plumb/etc. Seems less risky?
Re: the algorithm being rigged. I can give you a data point. Around 8 games a day (enough for 4 daily wins) gives you around 54% chance of going second. Which, combined with your hunch, would put the average magic player at less than 4 wins/day. The dataset comes from around 1750 games, before the sheer _consistency_ of it convinced me it was stupid to keep logging it. Nowadays I just play second only on the days I choose to, and screw rank or fairness.
I feel like standard needs a throwback to cards like land tax, that gave some significant benefit to going 2nd. Playing first just seems way unbalanced with so much aggro in the meta.
Question: Vs Mono Red, on the turn you set the stops hoping to draw another Village Rites, could you have cast the fumes on the Anax and sacrificed the Torbran before the Akroan War left play?
Fun Fact: Running this in B03 with roiling vortex solves any sultai ultimatum problems. They literally just ping themselves to death whenever they cast their ultimatum, and can't take care of you fast enough because of your quick burst damage abilities because they lose all of their explosive burst in ultimatum essentially doing 10 damage minimum to them. In historic, if they use omniscience as one of their cards, you can let them cast it, then prevent them from casting anything else for the rest of the game as they'll take 5 damage every card they play that isn't a land.
