    I really appreciate your bodywork and paint philosophy for Jeeps. They are supposed to have spot welds, dings and wrinkles. Nice thorough explanation of your process.

      thanks for watching. this jeep body has modern paint on it that will hold up great but still looks like a factory paint job. Spot welds should always show thru on a restored jeep.

    Great job. It's really cool to see the color of this jeep done. I'm about a month away from having mine painted the same original color. It's taken about a year to restore everything, but
    it will be worth it when he gets done. The jeep is a 1970 cj5 Renegade 1. Going to have all the original strips put back on also. I will send you some pics when it's done. Thanks for the
    video.

      This is one of my favorite colors as well and you will love it when you jeep is done and wearing factory stripes. Would love to see photos,

      I would love to be painting the snowblower jeep right now but still have a lot to do with the hard top, doors, and Wisconsin engine that is going to run the snowblower. Will show the paint process as soon as it starts.

    It came out really nice. It's a lot of work to get to that point but it sure is fun to stand back and enjoy the results. Nicely completed.

    • @metalshaperJeep
      @metalshaperJeep  6 лет назад +3

      It was a lot of work, beginning with cutting out the old rusted metal and massaging the entire body tub into what you see now. The results are very satisfying .

    A lovely job there Brian. You are absolutely correct on the paint finish on these, they really do not look right with a totally spot weld free finish, they were only painted to prevent corrosion, and that is the best way to present them now, I think the problem is getting as bad a finish as they were originally, once all the fittings are on this body it will look like it just left the factory, you tend to look too critically at a body when it is on the tressels, another great job out the door !

    • @metalshaperJeep
      @metalshaperJeep  6 лет назад

      Good to hear from you Chris, you always know exactly what a jeep should look like in the various stages of restoration. Now if I can only get other people to understand .........
      This jeep has a single stage urethane paint that will hold up great for many years and not fade or deteriorate in the sunlight. I only did the body restoration on this jeep but the customer sent me photos of the chassis and it looks like it is coming along nicely. Maybe when it is done I will get some photos that I can post.

    I know you said this wasn’t going to be a show vehicle, but still I’ll bet that’s a lot nicer paint job than it had from the factory!

    • @metalshaperJeep
      @metalshaperJeep  6 лет назад

      Yes, it is much nicer than a factory paint job but still looks correct with all the spot welds showing and a few areas of wear and tear that we left instead of filling over. Makes for a perfect looking body tub.

      It came out great. After spraying the building is closed up, and fans shut off, no bugs in the building to land in the paint.

    When you spray the high build primer do you and between coats or just go over the prior coat? Excellent video as always!

    • @metalshaperJeep
      @metalshaperJeep  6 лет назад +2

      High build primer gets put on in as many coats as you need. 3 coats usually does it for my projects. then sand. If you need more coats, lay them on and sand again. Keep at it until the surface is as smooth as you want it. Then, a shot of epoxy sealer over entire surface. then, finally the finish coat.

    Hi Brian
    I am thinking of purchasing a 54 m170 for a restoration. I was wondering what your thoughts are on parts availability , and whether it is a decent vehicle overall to rebuild? It appears most parts are general MB, but the fuel tank and windshield frame as well as seats are supposedly extremely difficult to acquire. Any knowledge would be helpful. Thanks!

    • @metalshaperJeep
      @metalshaperJeep  6 лет назад

      the m170's are great restoration projects as they were produced in low numbers and they seem to hold their value very well. Yes there are a few parts that are hard to find but if the vehicle you are looking at is complete then I would buy it. Let me know how it goes and if you end up buying it. you can contact me anytime at metalshaper@comcast.net
