I LOVE the look of the car. It looks like a car instead of a trying to be cool/edgy car. I have a love/hate relationship with the backup noise. It gets attention, which can be fun or annoying depending who is checking it out.
You can pop the bumper cover loose and reach in and unplug it pretty easily.
@@adrianbargen9727 I spent 30 min total partially removing bumper and disabling, wrapped the disconnected connections with electrical tape to help keep moisture out. 1000% worth it. Kia made the poor decision to make this reverse noise way too loud.
First off, thanks for your videos on the e Niro - they have been very informative and honest. As for the looks of it, I rather like that it's understated. I've never been a "flashy" car kind of guy, as it just invites those who are so inclined to give it a nice key job.
That back up beep is unbelievable to be. I really don't think that's a real thing even tho I just saw it in the video. No way
I have this car, its real, and its Loud!
Living in Florida, in an area with many senior citizens, I think the beeping noise is good although many seniors are hard of hearing!! It's good because people will know that you are backing up out of a spot. Sometimes you can't see people coming towards your car. This would hopefully warn them!
I agree that there should be some sort of noise, however, it is quite overkill and will wake people up down the block... No sneaking around in the otherwise silent electric car...
I'm glad they included a reverse camera on it. My Kia didn't have one so I had to buy one at Best Buy and have them install it. In my case the reverse camera is shown on the mirror vs the radio. 360 would be better I agree.
Can you see the temperature gage on the tackomoter? Some of the newer electric cars don't show that. I like to keep an eye on it so I know if my car is about to run hot.
We just got our 2020 Kia Niro EV Plantnum. I love it. I also have the same concerns as you do especially the sound on reverse. It's real loud and I find it almost embarrassing when reversing. I especially hate the red tone on the dashboard at night. I feel it looks old. I would have prefer another color than that ugly red all over the dashboard. However the car is great especially on Sport Mode. It's very efficient and I love to drive it.
That's about the only gripe that I have about mine. When you change the "ambient light colors", the buttons on the dash don't change color with it.
Don't hold your breath that they'll fix that annoying beeping sound in reverse. Thank your law makers for that one. "It requires hybrids and electric vehicles travelling at less than 18.6 mph (30 km/h) to emit warning sounds that pedestrians must be able to hear over background noises." The regulation requires full compliance in September 2020 so most all new EVs and hybrids will start making weird noises.
I agree with you about it missing 360-degree camera. That is a cool feature that other EVs have. As for the exterior looks, I'm okay with it... it's not ugly... My main gripe with it is the driver's seat... it's so hard on my back... everytime I drive, I noticed this... on my old Nissan LEAF, the seats were so much softer and comfy, I didnt notice it at all... Alas.
The reflection from the Interior trim is no joke. It's so bright! Even with sunglasses in Phoenix it is too bright. It's distracting!
I didn't see the outdoor temperature shown on the radio. Maybe it's hidden in the settings but a lot of new cars show you what the temperature is outside and I prefer that.
Totally agree with you on most points especially the blinding strip! How could they miss that! I have a 2022 Niro EV and love it. I could use another 50 miles on the battery however…I start with about 300 miles range but as soon as I get on the highway I can almost hear the car saying “Oh, you didn’t say you were going to go fast!…” and “Oh, you didn’t say you were going to use the AC!” Which of course drops the range below 200 miles. But I am hoping that very soon we will have batteries that charge very fast and don’t heat up with larger capacity….maybe 400 real miles?….. happy trails!

I also have this car. I totally agree with your points of criticism. Add to that the tube radio theme for radio channels. Such a look is not for everyone and I wish it could be changed.
Back up beep can be disconnected. Find either the fuse, if not joined with another feature. Find the speaker and disconnect it.
The reverse camera I have shows red,yellow and green but I think their doing away with Green cause the Buick models only show red and yellow. I think that reverse cameras and 360 cameras in general should be standard on cars now.
1. No power lift gate? Perfect, less stuff to break
2. Back up sound? Perfect, ever watch how many people walk in front of a reversing vehicle in Costco parking lot without even looking?
3. No memory seating? Perfect, see #1
4. No garage door controls? First world problem
5 Silver Strip? Black marker.
How bout #1 $50,000 price tag 🇨🇦

Light reflection is a HUGE safety issue. Should be reported.

I already sent a video of the reflection from the dash strip to Kia im still waiting to hear back from them, mines a lease also versions in other countries have different dash boards probably becuase of that issue but im sure they wont tell us thats tye reason why they changed the dash🤷🏼♂️
When listening to the backup sound I started to expect to hear " General Quarters General Quarters man your battle stations". That is what the alarm reminds me of. LOL

We bought this identical EV at 3 years old & 27k miles. For us, the looks aren’t a problem, but I agree with everything else you said, especially that damn backup beeper. As an FYI to all, when you get to 0%, you had better be pulling into a charger. There’s no secret reserve like some others have. We got stranded 2 weeks ago with only 9 miles to home. We live in the US West where chargers can often be quite a distance from one another. If the ChargePoint chargers had been working at our last possible stop, we’d have been fine. I guarandamntee you this won’t happen again!

Have had ours for 3 years, your right it's not attractive at all but we hv the TOURING with memory seats,we would be lost without them!! Heated seats and steering wheel along with ventilated seats make it a dream to live with!
Almost all of those were convenience pieces. The silver strip is a safety issue. Likely a recall or lawsuit action will happen there. Personally, like the way it looks. However, the backup sound would turn me away from the car immediately. That is a deal breaker. What every car one day will have those? Then we will have features to boost backup sound because everyone is using on in a super market shopping center.
I got this car last month and I totally agreed with you, But I do like it tho.
If you really had to. Trade it in with a safety issue, if your firm they have to take it back. Threaten them with a lawsuit, you'll contact the NHTSA. I bet the farm this car will be a recall! This is a serious matter Gregg. If they still refuse, contact your local News Media. 👍
I really agree that the trunk doesn't come with an automatically system like you mentioned it. You can make it work with a aftermarket set.
The Beeping sound like a truck when you go reverse, I don't have it. Only light beeping within the car. Maybe the first owner get rid of it! 😂

I have an e Niro from 2019 Executive line (Top soec.) with 64 KWh. I live in the Netherlands (Europe)
I think it's a good looking car. Not sexy, but tuff and strong looking.
So I don't like that the Trunk is not automatically controlled and it doesn't have a towbar standard.
The reverse camera always is dirty when it's raining, so annoying!
I know al those issues you can upgrade it eventually.....
I do have a Frunk and power struts and also bought a reverse camera wiper, so good!
I woud say i dont like the cheap and very stiff suspension system and how it act on road pumps
I've heard that Tesla was going to be required to have a backup sound too... My 2020 Model Y still doesn't... Hope it never does! 🤞🏼
It went into effect for all electrified vehicles manufactured starting September 1, 2020, which is about 4 months into the production cycle for the 2021 model year for most manufacturers. If your vehicle was manufactured before then and does not have it, it will not be required to get one.
I like not having a power liftgate, they seem only last 3-5 years then they start sticking half way up or down or the gear strips off and it won't work at all. And I like the way it looks, it does not look like a hybrid / EV, it looks like a normal car. The 23 looks hybridish and I'm not a fan of it, I have a 22 on order now just so I won't end up with a 23 later this year.
Feel you wish they give u option to have different sounds
My Kia is old compared to Today's models. I have the 2011 Kia Sorento. I paid it off last year.
I actually like the looks because it makes it not a theft commodity. I guess a car for me gets me from A to Z location, and I could care less for anything that adds to potential loss.
Reverse beep - You should count your blessings that you don't own a Toyota, then. Theirs is a bit louder and WAY sharper and more nerve-grating than the Kia's. In any case, going forward, there will be no avoiding it, since it's now a federally mandated system and has a minimum noise level requirement.
Power seat memory - Yeah, for some reason they made that available in Canada but not the US. I'm sure someone will attempt refitting that in a few years when they start showing up in junkyards after being wrecked.
I think that car looks nice compared to the 2023s. I think the 2023s are really unfortunate and sharp looking in the back like the old Priuses that were all right angles. The rest of that stuff feels like super-premium features that I wouldn’t expect out of a car that’s under 50k (except for the dash thing, that’s just bad design)
Why did you buy the car to find faults with it?

Wow you guys get the shaft in the US. My Canadian car has memory seats and Homelink garage buttons. I wish they just made the drone sound louder when reversing, instead of the beep, but it's ok. I'm in the minority i guess, i LOVE the looks of this car. I didn't buy a Soul specifically because of that rear end, I've always thought it was ugly as sin.
Stereo is wicked! for a factory stereo. Overall I love my Niro EV
Canadians also get LED headlights on the upper trim level. No longer available in the U.S.

Sounds like you should have done some research before buying. You can buy a 3rd party kit to make it auto tail gate. Back up sound is for the blind and the wire to unplug is the wire to the speaker. It may have a way in the computer to open the garage. There is what they call back out tape to cover chorm check out blacking out a tesla. Why did you get it if you don't like the look. I would never get a car I don't like the look of
