The USDC is another stablecoin that is trying to challenge Tether et al.
It is issued by the Centre consortium which is between Circle and Coinbase. Circle is a company that owns the Poloniex exchange and is backed by Goldman Sachs.
It is US based, is backed by well known companies and is fully US dollar funded - all of this verifiable through public record and internal audits.
The USD Coin is still centralised. The dollar reserves are in the hands of the Consortium and the dollars are redeemed through them.
The USD Coin was issued on the Ethereum blockchain as an ERC20 compatible token.
In order to make sure that the coin remains fully dollar backed, they will issue and burn tokens whenever there is a deposit / redemption.
The dollar peg will be maintained through a combination of supply, demand and no-arbitrage pricing dynamics.
The USDC is available on a number of exchanges.
The primary listing for this token is on Coinbase. For those who are based in the US, you can buy it with dollars right on your Coinbase account.
It is also listed on Binance, Poloniex, LATOKEN, IDCM etc.
There is strong turnover for the token on all of these exchanges. This means a large degree of liquidity for the bigger block orders.
In terms of storage, given that this is an ERC20 standard token, you have numerous wallet options - although you should probably opt for a trezor or ledger.

I see many platforms allow you to lock your USDC with high APY such as 11%-12%, while USDT is around 6%. Could you explain how these platforms allow you to get more USDC passively just by locking it for a period of time? I cant see any platform that use fiat that would guarantee >10% passive income annualy. So this makes me kind of confused

I’m storing all of my coins in my private exodus wallet. After gains, I convert them into USD coin, then rebuy during a dip.....all transactions done within my exodus wallet. Is this a good move vs “trading” on an Exchange, hassling transferring back & forth offline?

If a fiat dollar crashes then I guess we’d be safer keeping it as crypto such as Bitcoin Or XRP or XLM (which all currently have volatility. The fiat dollar isn’t backed by anything. So if the USDC is backed by the U.S. Dollar then how stable is it? The fiat dollar has lost 80% of its value since its inception starting with the 1913 Federal Reserve Act. The dominance of the US reserve currency is being challenged. So deposits into the USDC as a convertible digital currency must be pre-funded. Then after it’s pre-funded and backed by the USDollar then the USDC virtual currency which is convertible must have itself be identified and regulated as a stable denomination of “money” not currency. Money being a store of value vs a currency which has to be backed by something, and that doesn’t mean thin air. More like gold, silver, or another asset such as XRP which could be seen as a stable coin with utility, convertibility, and liquidity.

So can I buy let's say $1000 of USDC and then convert it into Bitcoin just as Bitcoin dumps and hits a huge low? Then when price jumps back up in Bitcoin sell it for profit by converting back into USDC?
Yes you can. Fees are 0. BlockFi. You’d get 8.6% interest on your USDC, paid in whatever you’d like.

@@ryanlong6535 i did there is an actual fee for converting to USDC all doe its not as expensive as selling its still an expensive fee . I would advice to not use coinbase at all or maybe use coinbase pro where it costs 1 dollar to sell otherwise an exchange with Tether is preferred

Please clarify the difference between buying your crypto tokens paired to USDT or USDC. If you bought all your tokens paired with USDT and USDT crashes, I assume that means your tokens crash with it….but if you bought your tokens paired to USDC and USDT crashed, would your tokens maintain their value?

Will your USDC still have the same value it had when you bought it?
It will still be worth 1 usd. So if the dollar crashes (compared to other currencies) then your holdings of USD coin will also fall in value with the dollar. Remember - each USDC is backed by a US dollar in their bank accounts.
It will maintain whatever value the US dollar maintains. If a USD is worth 39 cents your USDC dollar will be worth 1 USD worth 39n cents
That's like asking if you bought gold, would it stay the same value forever even if the price changed..
It's designed to follow it..

I don't see USDC in the drop down menu in my Trezor. Can I first send a bit from my CB account for it to show? I ultimately would like to buy and sell my bitcoin in and out of USDC with opportunistic swings in growth and decline.

Currently Voyager pays 9% APY

It's not a hedge against ETH since if ETH fails, then USDC fails. Also, the volume will always be much higher with ETH, thus ensuring liquidity when you want to trade.
@marc that’s not entirely true though right? If ETH loses value, USDC won’t because it’s always the same amount. So based on where you are with your gains, converting to USDC during the downturn, could prove beneficial to you.

I haven’t had any problems going from Coinbase to Nexo. There’s a fee involved obviously but I had 0 issues with this transfer the times I’ve done it.

@@tensevo It seems as though there is a battle for the world reserve currency right now. I.e., the great reset. New laws for “Bail In’s” and more. Fiat currency has a history of failing. COVID and American politics is a sure sign that something is up. Maybe I’m wrong, but the advent of COVID was very convenient for a weakening dollar and an election. Who knows.... nevertheless, the universe is in constant flux; it may be best to consider the possibilities.

Yes. Once you want to pull out real cash, convert your crypto into USDC and then you can transfer that into fiat and withdraw from bank account
@@mallyndab not even no point of stablecoins because if you make $.30 profit and then try to put it in a stablecoin like usdcoin, it would pointless because usdcoin has a fee, and that fee would take away your profit. And then the other stablecoins like dai fluctuate.

I don’t understand USDC. It makes zero sense. You either go fully crypto aka decentralized and independent, or you go full Fiat - centralized and political. You make a cryptocurrency whose value depends on Fiat, then WTF? Why went through all the technical cost? Why not just use ACH transfer/wiring?
I guess it's made so you can quickly transfer winnings into an stable coin once crypto fluctuates down.
I am not American do considering using this for two reasons. 1 hedging my local fiat against dollar without actually buying USD. 2 I am going to stake it with blockfi for 8.5% interest. That is not a return comparable to some other crypto gains but with point 1 and that I have other crypto already it makes some sense to me to do this.

It can be useful if you want to trade on exchanges.
For example not needing to cash out when you sell high but just trade your earnings into UDSC until you are ready to either cash out or buy back in.
+you can get really good secure interest on stable coins with the MCO wallet
Mace Nine you can earn interest on it at about 3-8% depending on the platform.... compound finance offers 3% and Nexo offers 8%

USDC is great if you want to stop trading keeping your profits and transferring to your offline hardware wallet. Then wait for the dips, transfer back to an exchange and repeat. Coinbase only insures up to 250k, so it’s best to be in a stable coin offline if you’re waiting for long periods of time.
