Yeah, I hadn't heard of ICP when it popped up recently but had heard of Dfinity, so it makes more sense now. The concepts sound pretty complete for web 3.0, but without the open source, decentralisation & accountable governence that just makes it feel like a network capture/walled garden scenario. "internet.org" style. Hopefully they either open up, or we don't get mass adoption on that chain. I'll stick to backing Filecoin/ipfs or storj combined with some of the compute renting projects... ...for now.
Really insightful and thanks for breaking it down for us. There’s more to it than meets the eye and it’ll be interesting to see if the code becomes open source eventually

Corrections to some of the factual mistakes I noticed: - the consensus mechanism doesn't involve nodes staking ICP; - one can create as many Internet Identities as they wish; - Internet Identity code is opensourced. Also, one key point I didn't hear being mentioned is that ICP holders are actively incentivized to vote for the good of the Internet Computer, otherwise their locked tokens lose in value. We saw recently how changes in narrative can hurt the value of even something like Bitcoin, and none of the token holders would like to see that happen to the project they're invested in. Finally, there are currently around 60 projects building on the IC, some of them like OpenChat, DSCVR and Waterslide already running on the mainnet.

Hi there, Hans here (from the SDK team). Just a clarification that the "Internet Identity" is not mandatory. It's more like an OAuth provider; website can choose another provider if they want to, and they can manage identity. There is no requirement for using the Internet Identity services.

Hi there, Hans here (from the SDK team). Just a clarification that the "Internet Identity" is not mandatory. It's more like an OAuth provider; website can choose another provider if they want to, and they can manage identity. There is no requirement for using the Internet Identity services.
