my grandfather had the pleasure of watching her run for real..He used to tell me stories of the filly with a heart of gold the courage of a champion RIP Ruffian...you had him girly
Ruffian- You were the worlds best filly & you still are, you had a perfect record of 10/10 before your break down, but even then you Still have the perfect record of 11/11 because you were ahead when you broke down ♥ I Love You Ruffian ♥
She is out of this world!! I'm from Australia and just starting to read about america's champion horses. The whole story of ruffian is like a faiytale x tragedy. No one could write a better story. Reminds me of the Phar Lap story, so great but with a tragic ending. I must see this movie.
I think of it like this, she had a purpose on this Earth, she fulfilled whatever it was, now she's in a place where she doesn't hurt or suffer and she can run until that big heart of hers is content
Rest in peace Ruffian, sweet baby. It has 34 years since you were put down and veterinary practice has changed. Had they been around in 1975, you may have survived.
her trainer Never wanted that Match race, cuz he knew what the chances were ...and they shoulda listened ! but sometimes popularity matters more,to the viewers who pressure the owners until they give in, so Really only ones to blame were "fans" they kept going until they got their match race and it ended up killing the one & only Filly Champion (in my eyes) ...her Real fans are Us, cuz we Know for a fact...she shouldnt have had to prove herself R.I.P Ruffian ♥
When I first tapped her video I expected maybe a full over or something (and that is tragic and horrible thing to happen) but to see that happen you would think she were just put to sleep. And then the see a d follow the love and careing in trying to save her brought even more tears to my eyes. Then to find that the operation would have worked ( a bit sketchy ups and downs would have saved her) and she shatters her other knee with the cask is very heart breaking to see let alone trying to think what was going through the owners , trainers and care ERS of her. Even only a month up on her leg in fixing would have been a bit different if she had of hurt or shattered her other knee to be able to go under again to even fix that. It wouldn't have been as heart breaking as she would still be around and not put down. The dear darling she we're. For that to happen and the only way were to put her back under were impossible with two servilely broken and damaged legs. If it had have been a month after believe it or not she would have made it through. She would have been pretty sore for a while but she would have pulled through. With a few more operations in any fixture needed for her to live out her life she would have pulled it off with lots more love and kisses for her owners and care ERS. You got to rember her heart was were the race is and running. All s she wanted to do is finish her race and keep running. That's a truly beautiful , bold and sweet horse. Love from Sarah.
They were so closely matched;Ruffians had won everything a filly could and Foolish Pleasure had won everything a colt could. The winner would've been down to the horse with the most guts and determined jockey. Both horses would've been gasping. Ruffian was a trier and so was Foolish Pleasure, maybe she would have done.
@horseygal235 but they for some odd reason used a gelding in the Movie Ruffian But she was a Filly and an Amazing one at that ! R.I.P Ruffian ♥ [Queen Of The Race Track]
@taykyl001 People believed she bumped her shoulder comming out of the gate, causing her too put more weight on her leg. The bones could not handle the added weight causing her to breakdown. No one will ever no for sure what cause the break. Horse racing is a game of chance, one day your on top of the world, the next you take a bad step and your career maybe even your life is over.
some comments below state that racing is bad. it may so be true for some horses. but for others it their dream. When Ruffian's jockey had an interview he states that he would pretty much never use the whip. and yet she would win by 4 or 5 lengths. Rudffian ran for love. she loved it., so racing is bad but not for all. R.I.P Ruffian
It wasnt her shoulder, she took a bad step. And both her parents had week bones. Just a few days ago we had quite a good horse, came back from trackwk, collapsed & died at 5yrs, probaly heart attack.
i think if the press just left the whole "Match Race" alone she'd still be here & she'd probably race Foolish later in her careerr but Noo people HAD to see them race 1 on 1 :(
@9showjumper yeh i hadn't actually seen the fall and i just hoping no one would notice once i had sceen the movies and the actuall breakdown, but you noticed and i deleted my comment
@horseygal235 Yeah mayb she bumped her shoulder, yeah maybe a wrong turn all I know is, Never shouldve had a match race, listen to the trainer, stupid owners. A trainer or jockey/strapper know more about the horse than owners do. Yeah well hope they are pls with themselves, hell she was just a filly, who would have won that day. Poor Girl, with a break like that NO CHANCE.
my grandfather had the pleasure of watching her run for real..He used to tell me stories of the filly with a heart of gold the courage of a champion RIP Ruffian...you had him girly

I must see this movie.
Cry I cry every single time I watch her. She warms my insides very much.
I was 10 years old when I first saw her. She was, and has always been, the most amazing Horse I've ever seen.
RIP Ruffian- who knew a Warrior's Heart, was inside such a beautiful girl
I think of it like this, she had a purpose on this Earth, she fulfilled whatever it was, now she's in a place where she doesn't hurt or suffer and she can run until that big heart of hers is content

i love Ruffian
And more photos please and memories like t shirts. Black and white.

I agree with you 100%. You took the words right out of my mouth.

@lulubaby98 she was a champion and she wanted to show the world that she was a champion never beaten
Why :'( Ruffian R.I.P
She is unbeaten, and she would of beaten the colt.
They were so closely matched;Ruffians had won everything a filly could and Foolish Pleasure had won everything a colt could. I know i love her so much!!rimfaxe96 yeah but there will never be a horse as good and like ruffian EVER!!
I Totally agree, Well done
Thanx for entering!! ^^
So so sad! :(
she died young;(what a beauiyful horse
She was running aganist 3 year old Foolish Pleasure. Their race was also known as The Great Match Race or Battle of the Sexes
It's so sad! :(
RIP RUFFIAN.
3:25 left me brethless
@dpasdamoney Ruffian is not just a horse. Ruffian is a legend. Do NOT ever insult her like that.
@taykyl001

@HorseSlaughterSux
They used several different geldings because they could not find enough big enough mares to play her
this movie is sooo sad. especially when she breaks both of her legs. :(
some comments below state that racing is bad. it may so be true for some horses. but for others it their dream. she would have beaten foolish pleasure easily.she was great,he was good.nuff said.
@9showjumper
Thanks for the idea. I'll let you know when I get it done.
i love the song in this....what is it
Could you do a Ruffian video with Gary Allan's Every Storm (Runs Out of Rain)? I love this video and I think the song would suit her :)
i think if the press just left the whole "Match Race" alone she'd still be here & she'd probably race Foolish later in her careerr but Noo people HAD to see them race 1 on 1 :(
This match race was useless and proved nothing the media got what they wanted.. shame on them.
@horseygal235 well that and also probally because geldings are easier to deal with, but i bet the size thing is a big deal
Her jockey tried to pull her up as soon as she took the bad step, but she would not take her heart out of the race. She wanted to beat Foolish.
Ruffian was a filly, not gelding or stallion.
She was the worlds greatest.
@9showjumper yeh i hadn't actually seen the fall and i just hoping no one would notice once i had sceen the movies and the actuall breakdown, but you noticed and i deleted my comment
@9showjumper no don't worry i didn't take ur comment as mean
Has any thing ever came close since ruffian in a filly her age I wonder.
Since they start to clone legendary horses all over the world now, I wonder if we are going to see her clone sooner or later.
Rimfaxe96 even if they do Clone her; there is no guarantees the horses would be exactly the same.
Where did you find this video and where did you find this music
The video is from the movie Ruffian and the music is by creed which I either bought through the iTunes store or downloaded from a CD.
@bballgirlmu1
One Last Breath by Creed
In frame 136 what were they doing to her mouth?
It looks like the are trying to put her head and neck in frame for the picture. The motion is just greatly exaggerated.
And yeah I think she would have beaten the colt to by two/three lengths.
What is wrong?
@HorseSlaughterSux It's not the race's fault, the bad step was entirely luck. It could've happened at any race.
its so stupid they didnt breed her with the foolish pleasure because then the foal wloud be unbeaten
how did she die
babypenny9. She woke up thrashing so much she rebroke the leg they did surgery on. Had to put her down.
sry put it twice
It's too much for these fragile horses. 1200 lbs of weight on one fragile leg and a stride like that. Over and over again. not good
uh-huh
Bye for now people got to wipe my eyes and go to the toilet.
But for some reason might have been her last race.
Meh, just a horse...yawn
