Just search all about this in UK, if you get a EV, you are made to get a smart meter, if you change suppliers, the meter won’t work.
Then research changing the smart meter function into a pre payment meter, ie you fall behind in payments, so you won’t get power until in credit. People believe it’s all great, using wifi to control heating, lighting, so convenient to see how much power you are using. We have so many in UK who can’t afford heating or eating. Elderly who have not had hot water or heating for years because of boilers etc. yet fallen through the cracks of social services, govt schemes.

We are with Ergon in regional Qld. No other options. One provider no competition. This should not be allowed. Moved into new build home Nov 2023 and power bills through the roof. Last one $430 for one month. Only two people in house and very careful with power use. We also have a 10.3Kw solar system which seems to be a waste of time. $70 solar rebate one month and $90 next month . Last home we paid quarterly in Brisbane and our total quarterly bill was only around $500. Ergon is going to be around $1600 a quarter? Absolutely crazy! Hearing so many stories from people on how their Kw usage has jumped dramatically with smart meters?

And it's still the same today.! I paid 11k to have a battery back up system in 2023. All along thinking, I'll won't not have to have to pay much for power again (WRONG). Since then my bills have increased!. I'm scratching my head wondering how industry can act like this; unaccountable and ripping off environmentally friendly well doers. My house almost burnt down because they didn't upgrade the cable to the smart meter and the fuse burnt out. I was without power for 4 days, isolated rural. I lost a fridge and it's contents. stinking electrical chemical smells. just horrible. How the government have let big business bully consumers like this is a Disgusting disgrace.. Sunniest place on earth and they still rip you off. And HOW The government solar 'feed in' is. is the biggest scam I've ever seen. and when the government industry ombudsman works for the electrical company; we're all out for a duck. It's been 10months and still no straight black and white answers. Smart meter more like scam meter

You can evade the most invasive aspects of smart meters by putting a battery between them and the house, including your PV array if you have one. You always top up your battery from PV, and heat your water tanks, then and only then do you hand over any spare power, and if the flow is in the reverse direction you bleed power off the grid into your store when it is cheapest. The problem is that this requires you to anticipate the load and supply differentials so you need to have a smart home and an AI system constantly learning from what is actually happening. Clearly way out of reach for the average family for a while, but that is where things are headed. The important thing is for you to have total control over that and not let external entities dictate to you how your system is managed because they will never do so to your advantage.

@Joe Shabidu I just refused here in Bundaberg by email, got a reply they have taken me off the list. The meter reader guy said gov in a few yrs or less will make legislation to force all of us who say no. Also have a friend his outside his bedroom gave them sleeping problems, paid to get it moved. He said emf readings were high.

Wow his energy readout measured 20% less. Maybe his old meter was reading slow. I have a smart meter and is incredible ,using 5 Kwh per day and i have solar thank you. Beware of clips that sound like truthful information that are fraud.
