Pen turning, without a mandrel.

A friend of mine bought a few fountain pen kits from Alibaba recently however because of the design there is no way to mount them on a pen turning mandrel to put them on the lathe.
This video is as much a guide for him as for the interest or enjoyment of others.

I like it! I recently ordered a closed end pen kit by mistake but with a little creativity I managed to turn it. Your pen looks really nice. What is that wood?

This was a scrap piece of mahogany that I had salvaged from a felled tree and am preparing to use for other turning projects, there were some parts of it that were just spectacularly coloured which I suspect may have been infected by an aromatic fungus.
