So we all know the Apple Watch Ultra display is made from sapphire and the screen protector isn’t needed. For those that have this installed. What’s your reasoning?
Check out some of the screen scratching videos. It scratched at a 7 out of 10 I believe. They will scratch, this is not high pure grade sapphire that only a diamond will scratch. They make the “sapphire” it is unfortunately it seems it’s of a lesser quality than Garmin’s sapphire. Personally I have a very physical job and I’ll use a few $ screen protector to protect my $800 watch as it gives me piece of mind.
Reasoning is AWU does need screen protector, its not pure sapphire and it does indeed scratch at the same level of Mohs scale as normal glass, its just covered by the bezel, thats why its less prone to get scratched, but when it does get in direct contact with something harder it does scratch
I am just like you. I work in an office and do not really get any of my things damaged. I had no clue that this watch was supposed to be harder to scratch. I have always had my watches and phones covered from day one. I am kinda bad on them. I drop them and etc sometimes so I want to have a barrier.
I do extreme sports, big air kitesurfing, hydrofoiling. Having that extra layer of protection is great when the hydrofoil hits the watch in a big wipeout. The foil wing tips are sharp. Spigen screen protector is great. Also helps resale value, mention in the description had a screenprotector on since day 1.
It’s a dive watch. Sapphire scratches, especially if you happen to accidentally scrape it across some coral, which can happen. This is my second ultra. First one had scratches after 20 dives. That’s why the cover.
Honestly after having my ultra 2 for nearly 3 months now I am floored how perfectly scratch free the screen still is, there is nothing, it's as floorless as the day I got it.. very impressed. If anything I might get a cover the actual body as that part actual does have some slight marks.
I got the Spiegen Case Protector and Screen Protector. These devices are in the realm of no longer being frivolous purchases; they are investments and I'm the type of person to keep my devices for a long time. I'll skip 5 models before I consider trading in; so I fully protect my devices.
Something worth mentioning in your reviews and viewers to keep in mind, the “9H” hardness screen protectors tout is not the mohs hardness scale. It’s the graphite scale same as pencil leads. 9H graphite scale = about ~6.5 on mohs scale.
Thanks for the info but I don't go that deep into the science of it. Most people see screen protectors, it's going to protect somewhat and that's that. But honestly thanks for that info.
As someone who collects nice watches, if you're worried about scratches this screen protector is pointless. The sapphire is significantly more scratch resistant than the screen protector. Assuming Apple is using a true sapphire this time (rather than the sapphire "infused" glass they've used on the cameras for a while) you only really need to worry about scratches if your working with a lot of diamonds and other hard stones. Now what a screen protector could potentially help with is cracks, as sapphire is less shatter resistant and the screen protector could act as sort of a support brace for the screen. However, Apple has already built a solution into the watch in the form of the raised lip around the screen, which you're diminishing by adding this screen protector and making it more likely for force to be applied directly to the screen in a bump. What you should be worried about is scratches on the frame itself. Titanium is lighter than Stainless Steel, but scratches much easier (better than aluminum though).
in spite of what you're saying, is it not still true that using the screen protector would only have theoretical positives? the only negative seems like redundancy. if its there, it still protects the screen even if the screen would've been protected on its own
@@PeepersonCreedo Well you are raising the height of the screen compared to the raised titanium edge around it meant to protect the screen from making contact during bumps. Which theoretically could in some situation cause damage. Besides that technically you are protecting the screen, but it is like putting a shirt over a bullet proof vest. It technically is helping, but the shirt isn't protecting anything when it matters.
I have a slight scratch on my ultra. And it drives my OCD crazy. So I’ll be putting one of these on my ultra 2 that way when it gets a scratch I just have to replace a $8 screen
@@TechnicallyTee just purchased lol I appreciate it. I have to stop watching your vids man you’re costing me a lot of money 😂 seriously I don’t make a purchase unless I check out your vid. I appreciate all you do bro keep it up

Nice one Tee great installation the rubber circle is for the back of your Apple Watch ultra so it won’t get scratched when you doing your install 😂👏😎🇮🇪
The Spigen Glass T is the BEST screen protector for the iPhone so Im sure it's perfect for the watch also. Still have the original one on my iPhone 14 Pro Max. Also, I LOVE MY NOMAD SPORT BAND. Pretty much stays on my Apple Watch 98% of the time. I tried going back to an OEM Apple sport band and hard pass.
I had a much better time with the ESR Armorite protector. The glass edge on the Spigen is too fragile for this application. The ESR has a metal edge to protect the class, and also the watch frame a bit.
it doesnt need a screen protector, ive never seen an original apple watches with a scratch as long as its the stainless steel model. sapphire isnt easy to damage
I think we all know that it doesn't NEED one but if someone wants that extra level of care then the option is there it's literally been on since this video and I always forget it's even up there.
@@TechnicallyTee but the glass will get scratched Then you will have scratches If you just don’t have a protective cover, it simply won’t get scratched and you can’t see the scratches
@@TexasDad765 why would you need a case? It’s an ultra The whole reason it exists it to be durable enough on its own. This watch over the past year has survived what my gshock couldn’t
After watching some of the durability test on the watch ultra, I am not putting a screen protector on. In almost all the durability videos, the internal fails and the glass doesn't even have a single crack or scratch. But that's just me.

I already waste time talking too much so I just try to get right into it. Since this was something a little different I could've looked over the instructions a little more but I didn't but will keep that in mind. Thanks for the feedback!
Bingo. It's other use cases besides protection which we all know the Apple Watch Ultra screen itself is stronger. It for sure blocks the fingerprints though.
Bro I love you and watch all your videos and almost never comment lol . But I wear my Apple Watch ultra to work everyday and I’m a natural gas worker so in and out homes , working with pipe wrenches cut lines etc. I’ve had it since day one . Screen has not a single scratch lol . A screen protector would do no justice .
Screen protector on a sapphire display is utterly pointless. The only thing that can scratch a sapphire crystal is a diamond, so unless you're swimming in diamonds, you have nothing to worry about!
I’m sorry for this but putting a screen protector on an Apple Watch that’s either the stainless steel, titanium or the Ultra is 100% pointless. Those watch displays are made with sapphire glass that are virtually scratch proof. My wife is a cosmologist. She wore her Apple Watch Series 5 stainless steel for 2 years and the screen did not have a single scratch on it. She currently has been rocking the 7 for over a year and it’s the same thing. Putting a screen protector on a sapphire glass display has zero benefits.
You have some people who still wants it as an option. Just because it isn’t for you doesn’t mean it can’t be for someone else. Some people want to use it to reduce screen fingerprints.
