This reminds me of when I doing my dissertation for university. At the time it felt like mountain to climb but now I can see that it's actually not that hard and that there is system/process to getting things done.

Started BJJ at 35 and completely out of shape. After only 2 classes I felt stronger and more limber and the desire to change my diet and lifestyle came naturally. I almost died the first class lol but I pushed through.
I firmly believe that there is no funner way to get in shape than training in combat sports in a good healthy gym. It will change you.

Sometimes i lift weights right after hard BJJ because its the only way to fit into my schedule. Dont give a fuck that its "not optimal", best part is overcoming the mental barriers and still putting on muscle

I want to do bjj but just not sure I can financially do it. That scares me because also my vehicle is older. I work every day and I'm over 40 but think I may just go for it.

Don't know the prices in your area but the first place I found in mine was $200/month. Was about to do it till I found an ATT gym for $170. Did that a couple months then decided to keep looking and now I'm locked into a $100/month deal at the best place in town. Shop around, call every gym. If you're new, skill levels don't matter so much, not till you get your blue belt at least. If you could find find a cheap garage run by a good blue belt that's a great start. Good luck.
Oh, my gym is half Corey Brown jj, badass black belt, look him up. He actually rolls with his students, the other half of the gym is Niko Price's gym, current UFC WW. Great gym.

TBH the wallet was the reason I stopped with BJJ. For sure you can find a mat and solo practice penetration steps, bridging, shrimping, turkish getups etc. But I'm right there with you with the subscription fees for school. No shame if you had to forego it for fear of injuries but you need to stay in shape regardless.
