My first thought when you said “books with characters who don’t use their magical powers” was Ash Princess and then you showed it. I love that book so much. The main character is so strong
I loved this idea! And loved the book recs! Also, thank u Sasha because u r the one who got me into booktube about 6 years ago (when you looked like Lily Collins and filmed in your bedroom) and I love watching your videos to this day and seeing how far you've come is awesome! Love you girl
Sasha your hair color is stunning!! I've always admired it, red suits you too well. are you ever going to make a video about how you dye your hair? please I'll love you forever
Yes! I knew The Winner's Curse would be in the video! I was blown away by Kestrel's amazing mind!! She's such an extraordinary intelligent strategist! Also, love you Sasha!! ❤
I love a Discovery of Witches & have alot of these on my tbr, thanks for sharing! I always add some new to me books to my tbr on goodreads from your videos. I am so excited you'll be studying history! I studied history & art history, & am now finishing my library science grad degree. Still love history
I would add Sansa Stark to this list as well. She doesn’t have magic nor is she a warrior, but she has her mind and that helps her navigate the treachery in King’s Landing and dealing with Littlefinger’s brainwashing (more book than show, show sucks tbh).
Your space buns are so cute! Ash Princess has really intrigued me! I like the fact that she doesn't have any magical powers. Magic in books is cool and all, but a character who just uses their wits fascinates me!
Wow i love your idea n it was absolutely had me hooked kistening n wanting to grab all the books. Some i even heard off but just never got too. You have this fantastic way of using the most important power we have our minds!! Very nicely done!!😊
A similar recommendation is the Princess Academy series by Shannon Hale. The main character Miri has to go to an academy to learn to be a princess in case the prince chooses her as a bride. She uses her smarts to survive the academy and eventually change the lives of people in her village.
As much as I like the recommendations, I feel like there are a BUNCH of other YA books with heroines who are clever and smart (not just with strength and kick-assery) that should have been mentioned, not just four. Especially with women of color. Examples include: Cress, Winter, Starr, Nehemia, Amari, Hermione, Sansa Stark etc. It’s SO easy to pick them out I remembered instantly in my head. Girl I love you boo but more variety, have MORE girls (even smol bean guys) and not just for the sake of the promotional video. Note: I get that the characters mentioned above are very well known characters, but what I’m trying to say is that Sasha should’ve made a longer video discussing more characters, even if they are from a popular series. Remember there might be new book members in the community, so why not have them meet these wonderful people? As for us who have been in the book community for a while, we SHOULD look for many other books that have the dame type of character. I’m sorry if I had confused anyone. But this a good lesson I learned today. Please feel free to leave any book character (YA, Middle Grade, Adult etc) who doesn’t just win in a sword fight or use brute strength. Rather they use their wits, smarts and voice to accomplish their goals. Like us really lol.
cutemewutube Personally I like her she’s not the best YA character but she’s one of the first YA girls I related to (except I don’t do love triangles) and enjoyed. (At least she’s not Eadlyn lol) But please check out the other heroines too. They’re so much fun to be with :3
I think it’s because the characters u mentioned are from books almost every one knows about in the YA community so there is no need to recommend them but the books she’s recommending aren’t THAT well known
Sara Aref Omg you’re right. I completely forgot about the title of the video while writing this😹 I’ll put in some characters not we’ll known but still deserve to be mentioned. I still think Amari hasn’t reached that level of popularity YET. Thanks dude.
I always look forward to your recs because I end up loving the books & the tv shows you mention. This video was definitely different but really helpful to me since I love reading about the various tropes you spoke about. It is so much fun. Thanks so much Sasha.
I'm just waiting for the "wee" one Sasha to discover the Isle of Man ! A land that the locals still believe in the "wee" folk and is steeped in ancient myth and legend and modern day "berserker's" gather to test their bravery and a few pay the ultimate price ! Sure Sasha will find it inspirational she is so near but yet so far.
If you haven't already, I would HIGHLY recommend checking out the Audible original series written by Jack Campbell starting with Daughter of Dragons. The main character is JUST like you describe in this vid, and I love her to pieces!!
YEEES A Discovery of Witches ❤️ I agree, I love the scholastic side of Diana. What do you think of the upcoming tv series? Have you watched it? I think it’s going to be cool
I loved A Discovery of Witches so much! It inspired me, as well. But then I couldn't even finish the second book. :'( I was really bummed. Have you read the second one yet? I'm almost tempted to give it another try. It was a couple of years ago that I read them.
Ironically, this is what my character tropes are for my book (that I will be Writing when I'm older), powerful but doesn't rely on them fully and uses their smart mind (a bit like Sherlock Holmes) and uses their powers as a last resort, never first like some other characters.
I miss watching u! I've always love ur book recommendation & It's been so long since I've watched one of your videos coz my children are keeping me busy haha....
The SpellSlinger series by Sebastien de Castell is amazing and I think fits in with this theme. It follows Kellen who is part of a tribe of magic users but he is lacking in that magic. Long Story short you follow him and those he meets as they beat the odds stacked against them. Wow I suck at summaries but I highly recommend them.
Wow Ash Princess sound great...will be picking up...right now Im reading Half a King by Joe Abercrombie...it good. I got thing for all books with Kingdoms 💟🤓
Sasha has dormant abilities; actually a recessive genetic trait that appears once in a 1000 years. Sasha's mind/imagination actatived her ability. Imagination is key to everything, as she knows.
The cover of Ash Princess looks a lot like the covers of the Red Queen books (particularly King’s Cage)
Savannah I was thinking the same thing.
I was just about to comment that!
I was literally thinking the same thing!
I was thinking the same !!!!
I loved your rainbow bookshelves! They look so good!
You always recommend underrated books and inspire me to read less popular books! Love it so much!!
And my TBR grows...
sheisuchalauren YASSS
It looks so bright and colorful with the flowers in front of the bookshelf, this video really pops, I love it! :)
Given’ off cute Zenith vibes with that purple shirt and space buns.

I completely agree about A Discovery Of Witches!!! The TV show is only a few months away!!!!!
“They’re so freakin’ good.”
Sasha your hair color is stunning!! I've always admired it, red suits you too well. are you ever going to make a video about how you dye your hair? please I'll love you forever
I can't believe you didn't include Outlander in this! Claire uses her head, medical knowledge and resourcefulness all the time :P
Yes! I knew The Winner's Curse would be in the video! I was blown away by Kestrel's amazing mind!! She's such an extraordinary intelligent strategist!
Also, love you Sasha!! ❤

Yesssss! Kestrel is a queen. The Winner's Curse Trilogy is one of my favorite series
I hope you’re enjoying your time in the UK! Have fun!
AmaisBooks I am!!!!! Thank you!!!
I love that Sasha is uploading more and more❤️
Loving the rainbow bookshelves! 😊
I would add Sansa Stark to this list as well. She doesn’t have magic nor is she a warrior, but she has her mind and that helps her navigate the treachery in King’s Landing and dealing with Littlefinger’s brainwashing (more book than show, show sucks tbh).
The queen of the tearling trilogy is also one of them! ❤️
*YAAASSS MY DAILY DOSE OF HAPPINESS*
Kidney Function Is Not A Right It's A Privilege awwwwww
I loved this video! Such a great idea to rec a book by its character personality!!
My TBR is growing because of you
Your space buns are so cute! Ash Princess has really intrigued me! I like the fact that she doesn't have any magical powers. Magic in books is cool and all, but a character who just uses their wits fascinates me!

The Spellslinger series by Sebastien de Castell fits perfectly into this category!
All of these books sound so good! *adds them all to my TBR*
you should do a hair tutorial someday cause girl, your hair gives me LIFE
ps: loved the recommendations 💞
The winner’s trilogy is a very very good series
The first three characters that came to my mind were:Mustang from Red Rising,Kaz from Six of Crows and Annabeth Chase from Percy Jackson
Yesyesyes sasha😍 love this video and love you being in the UK posting at a brilltime where I'm doing nothing to watch it straight away yay

I lost you at America Singer

cutemewutube yeah now that I think about it, maybe she shouldn’t be on the list but hey still love her😂☺️

I always look forward to your recs because I end up loving the books & the tv shows you mention. This video was definitely different but really helpful to me since I love reading about the various tropes you spoke about. It is so much fun. Thanks so much Sasha.

I'm currently reading A Discovery of Witches and OMG it is absolutely amazing, such an amazing story and characters.
Love your hair😍😍 and I read the winners curse last year and really liked it - might have to check out some of the other books!
Your eyes are so pretty !! Can you make a video about your tattoos ??

I love the Falling Kingdoms series!
If you haven't already, I would HIGHLY recommend checking out the Audible original series written by Jack Campbell starting with Daughter of Dragons. The main character is JUST like you describe in this vid, and I love her to pieces!!
I love this kind of videos, Sasha!
Diana DOES start using her magic a lot more in the next two books (after A Discovery of Witches), but her historian side never goes away.
I love your white bookshelves girl 😍
YEEES A Discovery of Witches ❤️ I agree, I love the scholastic side of Diana. What do you think of the upcoming tv series? Have you watched it? I think it’s going to be cool
Ash Princess is on TBR and now hearing you talk about makes me want to read this right now even I am reading other books.
Btw im reading zenith and its pretty good. Keep it up!
I love the All Souls trilogy and I feel like it doesn't get much love on booktube simply because it isn't YA.
I loved A Discovery of Witches so much! It inspired me, as well. But then I couldn't even finish the second book. :'( I was really bummed. Have you read the second one yet? I'm almost tempted to give it another try. It was a couple of years ago that I read them.
LOVE LOVE LOVE your videos 🤗 I hope you are enjoying the U.K. 😋
Winner's curse was soooooooooooooo goood
Ironically, this is what my character tropes are for my book (that I will be Writing when I'm older), powerful but doesn't rely on them fully and uses their smart mind (a bit like Sherlock Holmes) and uses their powers as a last resort, never first like some other characters.
I loved the falling kingdom series
I miss watching u! I've always love ur book recommendation & It's been so long since I've watched one of your videos coz my children are keeping me busy haha....

I love you so much you make the best videos!!!!!!!
I loved this video idea! Seriously I would totally buy A Discovery of Witches just because of the cover 😂😍But it sounds really cool as well ^^
The SpellSlinger series by Sebastien de Castell is amazing and I think fits in with this theme. It follows Kellen who is part of a tribe of magic users but he is lacking in that magic. Long Story short you follow him and those he meets as they beat the odds stacked against them. Wow I suck at summaries but I highly recommend them.
You should do an apartment tour!!
The Winners Curse is AWESOME!!!!!!!!! Have you read the Winners crime or the Winners Kiss

Hi! Sasha! Love you and your videos!! What inspire you to write? And any book recommendations for ya beginners? And I`m from Brazil.
Sasha has dormant abilities; actually a recessive genetic trait that appears once in a 1000 years. Sasha's mind/imagination actatived her ability. Imagination is key to everything, as she knows.
Great video!
I had so much hope for ash princess but i was not a fan lol
It sounded soooo good I was disappointed with the main character.
Your hair 😍
I almost picked up "Discovery of Witches" at Barnes & Noble
I love this video ♡
