  • In this video we discuss how price locks on auto transport quotes don’t ever work to actually move your car to quicker or safer .
Price locks don’t lead to better outcomes or faster outcomes.
Price locks generally mean longer waiting times if the price isn’t accurate / or inferior trucking companies showing up to move your car .

I went with Sherpa. They did "guarantee" their quote which was higher than other quotes we received ($1600 vs less than $1000). So they don't quote an unreasonably low price, at least in my experience. A carrier agreed to take our vehicle about a week later. I contacted Sherpa with some questions about the carrier (they claim to check them out) and they quickly provided insurance information and even a picture of the truck. The pickup was uneventful and the driver seemed to know what he was doing. Nice guy. Communication with the carrier has been good. So Sherpa, thus far, has come through for us. They do talk a good story, but so far everything I've been told seems to be true (e.g., check out the carriers they use, make sure carriers have insurance and use good equipment, guarantee quote, etc.).

Happy you had a good experience George, but that's only one experience. Sherpa seems mostly fine. Our issue is with the "price lock". We see the issue of cars not moving over and over and over and over again from these so called "price locks". We hope to eventually create a way for people to truly know where cars are moving at , and have a full picture they can look at so they know where rates truly are.

I understand, but if they quote a reasonable price (for all concerned) then their guarantee it (up to $300) should be OK. Does the price ever go up after the carrier has agreed to the price? By the way, thanks for the videos. I learned a lot from them. Much appreciated.

@@georgehatfield9473 The major issues with price locks come into play more frequently when you have a tight schedule or you happen to have a difficult pickup or drop off location. Sure, if a company Price locks, say $1200 to move a 2019 Honda Civic from Los Angeles, CA to Dallas, TX , then that's a piece of cake. It's an unbelievably easy route to quote, and the price for that car I'm giving in this example, is more than enough to move it. Average rates for that route right now, are probably between $700-920 "to the truck". Easy Easy. It will obviously move. Anyone can quote that and price lock it, or know it will get done. But if you are trying to move a car from say, Spokane, WA to say Lafayette, LA, well that's a far more challenging route to quote. It could take $1000, it could take $1500 depending on ; your scheduling needs, weather, demand in the area, time of the year, and many , many other factors. So what good does it do to advertise all over the place IT WILL TAKE THIS RATE. Nonsense. You have to be flexible. Period. They have zero control over a truck accepting the job at that rate, let alone what "type" of truck it is. Furthermore, it actually incentivizes them to put it on an inferior rig just to meet their "price lock". And honestly if you look at their reviews, which aren't bad, they still have multiple examples of people stating they had to call them to "raise the rate". So it's a joke plain and simple.

Our Sherpa transport turned out fine. We met the carrier as we had planned. There was no damage to the car. The payment was made by certified check. High marks for the carrier. We probably paid more than we had to, but the price was worth a no trouble car move.
