  • Nov/Dec 2023 and The Man Upstairs continues to grant me extra time to spend on the bank.
    Out fishing for Pike again using dead baits and barbless circle hooks... which, after you get the hang of them are really good, not to mention kinder on the fish too!
    Hoping to hear the cry 'Fish On!' Just like Mr Wade, but of course from me instead. We'll see what happens.
    Wishing you all a great 2024 and hoping you get loads of great big smelly fish too!
    Tight Lines!

    Funnily enough i just made some single hook rigs up but using catfish hooks. I really like the loom band rig (have seen this done like this before), so just ordered a pack of red loom bands. Tight lines.

    I have been using circle hooks ago recently and I must say I’m impressed, one thing u need to overcome when using them Is to give the pike enough time to have the pike 100% in its mouth when using bigger baits

    Let's hear it for the mighty women fisher's
    Great pike fishing
    Do you lift into or strike with the those circle hooks
    You just clarify at the end that u or clare or whoever should wind into rather than strike...cool!

    • @spikeymikeyangling6218
      @spikeymikeyangling6218  5 месяцев назад

      always wind down into the fish... however Claire lost that one after letting the line go slack

    again a very nice video - also with some new information. Sadly our lakes are frozen - just when I wanted to try your rig again after my first caught on the first day of the year. I think I will have no more chance for fishing before pikes are under protection (from 1st of February until 15th of April) because of this wheater 😞

    Hi glad to see some ones catching on circles what’s your hook up ratio ?

    • @spikeymikeyangling6218
      @spikeymikeyangling6218  5 месяцев назад +1

      Hook up ratio? I don't like to tempt fate but mine is very good. 95%.
      I don't know why people struggle so much. Don't strike and keep it all taught when you do Hook up.
      The more practice the more your rate improves.
      Good luck!

      @@spikeymikeyangling6218 I’ve herd in others videos it’s down to using too much lead weights. Using a float or a smallest weight possible so your in direct contact to the hook and you don’t have a pendulum motion when tightening down on the Line. I used a 4oz lead on a big lake at range and lost 4-5 runs 1 day in the space of a couple of hours.

      Usually fish smaller venues so no need for heavy leads etc. This rig is great for distances upto 40 /50 metres,
      Catch most of my fish close range.

      @@karlmclean2023 I fish a lot of small venues for Pike and Zander with float/ledger rigs using floats ( by Balzer, Germany ) that balance with 2 grm of lead. Makes for a very sensitive set-up. Using 2/0 Eagle Claw L702G circle hooks my hook-up rate is as close to 100% as makes no difference. I crush the barbs on my hooks and find the in-turned point of a circle is more than adequate to retain a 3-4 inch Roach deadbait.
