What's it like living in Australia? Well, for starters, it's a GIANT Island Continent surrounded by the Indian and Pacific Ocean, and also one of the Top 10 BEST countries to live in the World! A big reason for that is the stunning nature. From Bondi Beach to Uluru to the Great Barrier Reef to Surfer's Paradise to Kakadu National Park and Tasmania, the 6th largest country is beautiful and features tons of unique wildlife such as kangaroos, koalas, emus, echidna, platypus, and wombats!
Now while there are some similarities to the United States of America, there are also a LOT of differences, so hopefully this list helps new immigrants! If The Land Down Under is one of the safest and happiest countries in the world with some of the best cities to live in the World such as Brisbane, Adelaide, Perth, Melbourne, Sydney, Gold Coast, Cairns, and Canberra, then why shouldn't you live in Australia?
Thanks for watching From Here to There! This is one of my top ten videos where we explain things about the world, it's history, and geography, starting with the different states, cities, and towns in the United States. Find out the worst and best places to live in 2020!

I'm a yank and came to Australia for a visit in the mid 1970's... and never left.
This is a terrific country and is not nearly as dangerous as most Americans are led to believe. American beaches have their fill of sharks too and I'd rather face off with a kangaroo in the bush than a bear in the woods. Sure it gets hot here in summer but Sydney had one day over 40C last summer and we don't get snow except in the mountains. I'll take the heat over snow and ice any day....
Shops are open much more often than this vid leads you to believe and bars restaurants are of course open late. One gets used to the long flights to rejoin the world, which is a small price to pay to avoid the constant social and political problems of the Northern Hemisphere.
Best of all Australians are kind, fun, funny and have a terrific sense of fairness, and they actually like each other instead of tearing each other apart. There's very low crime, almost zero gun violence, and so much less paranoia than in US cities.
I'll take my risk with the spiders, snakes, and swimming with sharks anyday over getting killed by some random fool with a gun...
    Cheers.

Sydneysider here, better watch out for those ‘drop bears’…. They’re basically koalas with fangs…. Extremely deadly.
We don’t only trim trees back because of fire hazards, but the drop bears as well. Also, snakes can climb here, they climb up walls and get into vents, windows, anywhere.
The Aboriginal Australians will tell you, that back in the day, the koalas would hunt, by climbing up a tree, then falling down on your head, and because of their weight you’d be knocked out or dazed, then it’s fang and claw time. It’s worse during mating season, when they’d hunt in pairs or 3’s. even worse when mama Drop Bear is teaching a juvenile how to hunt.
Take that and make of it what you will…

I am an Australian now been living in Canada since 1956. I came here because I was a Aeronautical Engineer and the aircraft industry was way better than in Australia. The 2 countries are similar in that they are big with most of their populations being bottled in very small areas due to the climates ie too hot or too cold . Never the less they are both great places to live and since I married a nice Canadian nurse altho I’m sure there was a nice Australian nurse in Australian there to so made my family here.

Drive 20 minutes one way to a beach, and 20 the other way to creeks and lakes and waterfalls. Everywhere is air conditioned and we like being far away. Cities being far apart, means no cities so full you can't move! Road trips are a right of passage, with incredible sceneries. A bustling night life and lots of attractions. It's expensive here so I can vouch for that but our internet is fine 😅 and most carriers have no capped data now. If you love the outdoors and adventure - Australia for the win!

Moved to this wonderful land called Australia 27 years ago and never looked back. This is a wonderful country with multicultural society. The bio diversity of the land is amazing. Yes, it does get a few hot days during Summer but the Summer lasts for only about 3 months of the year. Autumn and Spring are to die for. The Winter is not bad at all. Even though I come from a tropical country, I love the Winter best. It's pretty cozy. To sum it all up, we have the best weather, best people, best food culture, wonderful beaches, great education system and health care. We are also lucky to have a Pretty low crime rate, great democracy and a fair to all legal system. If this is not enough reason to live here, then I don't know what else people need??

Australia was better before multiculturalism. Western civilization is the best that humanity has produced so far. So diversity can only diminish us.

Born and raised in Australia, I've lived in New York City, Miami, Los Angeles, Chicago etc - The American North East is like living in a freezer for practically 7 months of the year! It's torture hardly ever seeing the sun for months on end. Wake up in the dark, catch the underground subway and walk to your workplace in the cold shadow of skyscrapers, then spend your day under fluorescent lights. Finish work and the sun's already set at 4.30pm during the winter months in NYC. Living inside with oil heating for months and months - very unhealthy. Australia is full of nature (something only seen in Arizona, Utah, New Mexico and Colorado in the US) whereas the US is so congested with people nearly everywhere you go. It can be claustrophobic in the bigger cities. Miami is nice but too much crime, drugs and gun violence spols it. California is overcrowded. LA is overrated - too much pollution and people are full of themselves. Also the gun culture is out of control in the US - walk into the wrong neighbourhood and risk being shot. No thanks - that's why I moved back to Australia where I can watch the sun set over the Indian Ocean and there's sunshine almost every day of the year where I live. I love New York but it's too grungy and not somewhere to settle down.

You don't feel "trapped" in Australia when air travel is always an option, it would be rare to find any capped internet accounts now. Hardly anyone has trouble with the wildlife here and the bush fires are happening worldwide now (and floods) - it's because of climate change.

It’s hard to find someone who feels trapped, being far away can have downsides but also positive *covid* *threat of war* *spread of illness*. The internet can be annoying but it’s not much worse than the US and can be great when you’re on a meeting and don’t want the camera on. A big downside is paying international shipping fees though 😂 but first world problem. Our wildlife is fine, I last saw a snake a year ago! So dramatic 😂 😂. I moved to Australia 11 years ago. I love the heat and you can always escape it because every public building is air conditioned. And your house and cars have air conditioned normally. Summer is barely 2 months. If my friends from Ireland who migrated here can survive it then anyone can. Australia is very beautiful. Love driving around here from north to south. I have visited countries with never ending driving. The bush fires are common in lot of countries and trust me, you don't get compensated via mail box. Firefighters also give their life away saving lives, that is how great Australia is. Travelling, Australians love travelling so 20 hours is piece of cake, and you can always stop in between even while driving to another state, I have done 3 days trips stopping on the way, love the tourist spots. Time zone, there are 23 countries in the world with different time zone including USA, humans don't decide, sun does. Lol. Don't know what cheap plan you bought but my house is 121Mbs. And about animals, leave them alone. Like in USA, bears come and eat you. Australians love camping and always does. Kangaroos are everywhere and they don't like you if they know you are causing threats. Driving, hahaha! You don't travel much seems like. Things are expensive but you are paid good. If I can get double increment in 7 years of work then can anyone. I'm respected and acknowledged at work. And after hours, not few places, I have always done grocery shopping at night and Americans stop burning fuel unnecessarily 24 X 7, give the nature break for once. And mental health , we have numbers because people have places to go unlike many countries which doesn't have much support and care plan so it never gets reported. I myself have been advocate of RUOK and beyond blue and have councillors at work. My friends have used government help as well. USA is 27th ranking in suicide and Australia is 41st which we are not proud of and so should you not be as well. We are very lucky we have help in Australia. And now during covid19, which country is the best to be in.....Australia no doubt. If you want to know why, do your research and make a video in comparison with USA.

Ok heres the reality I live 20k from the city centre of a capital city. Ive had so many snakes in my house its not funny. I now have stainless steel security screens and doors to keep out the snakes, the rats and the mice. I have one python who comes back every year and explores every nook and cranny trying to get in. I once left the door open for 30mins and he found his way into my bedroom. Luckily the dog found him and I got him out.
    Besides that...
We once lifted up the pillows to fluff them while making the bed and a goanna rushed out. I had a nest of red bellly black snakes under a mat by the back door, had so many red bellys in the house. A python ate my rooster. I have a blue tongue lizard that eats my bananas. Hawks and kookaburras kill my baby chics. Once had a python that was at least 5m long across my driveway and he was as thick as a speed bump. Ive been stung by paper wasps, leaping ants, bees, march flies. I have flocks of cockatoos that eat my pine cones and get drunk and think they own the place and wont move out of the way. Speaking of cockatoos, if you feed them then stop feeding them, they will tear apart your house bit by bit. If I leave a door open, butcher birds and kookaburras come inside into the kitchen and will take anything your defrosting.
Ive had snakes curled around curtain rods, hiding behind a statue, curled up on the dressing table. Not even going to start on the spiders. Nothing worse than when all the baby spiders start flying on the wind and they get all over you. But better than when I lived in Darwin, least I dont have to worry about salt water crocs now.

From an Australian's perspective its an interesting take on Australia. Agree on shopping hours and internet but fear of the snakes sharks etc I think you need to be a bit soft around the edges to really worry about that. True about travel time between cities but most of us fly and so it's not as bad as portrayed. Australians often describe distances not by miles/kilometres but by time taken to travel ( "how far is such and such... oh, it's about an hour and a half"). Earnings and cost of living is probably balanced so that say the cost of a loaf of bread takes the same minutes/time to earn as in many other countries. But the big plus is that when we travel our earnings buy a lot more things in other countries. Probably a reason why so many Australians travel overseas. Thanks for an interesting video. I enjoyed it.
