yes they can be handfull! but they are the most wonderfully loving, caring, giving, funny and loyal friend and family member a person can share their life with!!!!
Sadly, we just put down our wonderful pocket Beagle after nine years....developed kidney disease that progressed to full renal failure and that is atypical for this breed. Pertaining to the video, yes Beagles shed...a LOT but with regular grooming using a Furminator, you will have much less. We have had several dog pets including Jack Russells and I can not recommend another pet bread more than a Beagle. They crave human interaction...talk to them and they tilt their head like they understand. They have personality. They may train you...our Lexi would tip over her empty water bowl and keep banging on it until we came and gave her more water...smart dog. They love to be in the same room with you and when you sit in your chair, they will work their way into your thigh and the side of the chair. They will greet you when you come home with joy. They are very easily trainable and intelligent. As far as their bark/howl...they are great watchdogs...if there is a possum on your porch, they will let you know...ours was trained to be quiet but you can easily make them bark when playing with them. They will rule your room...if you have six pillows on a made up bed...when you get home, the pillows will be pulled down and she will have slept under the covers all day. They travel well in a car...like the nose to the wind and they can hold their bladder for a long time. They are NOT good walking dogs in the neighborhood unless you stay in the middle of the road...if you are on the grass, their nose will stay to the ground sniffing every inch...that's in their genes. Beagles make GREAT indoor pets (also great with kids) and they DO NOT tear up everything...we lost ZERO items of clothing or furniture legs due to her chewing on them...but give them chew biscuits/bones and play toys. Be ready for an extremely emotional time when they their time comes to go...you will be losing a member of the family.
I absolutely love my pocket beagle, and agree with all your points, he’s under 2, so still in destroy phase, but he will go for his toys. He is a rescue thru a wonderful hound rescue here in northeast Florida called The London Santuary. They can be found on Facebook. Adopt, don’t shop🥰. The dude is 17 lbs and sounds like a whole pack of dogs, he is really loud! But sooooooooo loving and cuddly. He just wants to be with the family. Agree you need to be active, he gets 2-3 miles walk every day.
Had a little beagle who was smart and playful and loving. She developed a slipped disc at age four, leaving her paralyzed from mid-back down. Operation was unsuccessful and her condition was worsening, so we had her put down by the vet while we both held her. Very sad, but no regrets. Just fond memories.
Also super important to know that Beagle's are a big runaway risk. Scent tracking is instinctual for them and no matter how much training your Beagle has, instinct can kick in at any time. Because of this, its super important to keep your Beagle on leash at all times, especially if you live in the city. For anyone not familiar with scenthounds you might think this is a behavior that can be trained out and that's just simply not the case. You may be able to train them to ignore their instincts most of the time but it only takes one time for them to catch the scent of a rabbit and run out into traffic while on the trail.
@@BaileyTheBeagle I think another important aspect is to have a puppy/obedience trainer who understands how scent hounds differ from other types of dogs. For example, a lot of trainers try to train dogs to walk with their head up and eyes forward. However, most scent hounds will walk with their noses to the ground, and eyes down. If an owner doesn't know or has a trainer who doesn't understand scent hound behaviors, they could end up spending a lot of time trying to train out instinctual behaviors.
I have a beagle mixed with a sheltie, so he basically looks like just a REALLY fluffy beagle. So imagine how a normal beagle sheds times 3. And if u train them as puppy’s it makes the process a lot easier, my dog loves learning new tricks and loves training!
Beagles can make the saddest faces---making it hard to say no to them. They really love food. And they like to roll in stinky things and have to have lots of bath. With that said, I'm so glad I have my beagle. She has been worth it all.

Some guy dropped a beagle on my dead end road , presumably because she wouldn't run rabbits well enough to satisfy the guy. I took her in and got her used to living indoors pretty quickly. Now she lives the good life . I have to take her out tracking pretty often because that's what beagles need to be happy . You wouldn't think a dog that small could make as much noise as she does . Bailey is Lovely !!!😙..I have a Beagle Sophie ❤❤...As you know...Beagles are The Best Loving Clever Dog !!!...But ..I am rather biased and all doggies are great 💙...
Beagle is believed to be from the old french word "be'guele" which means 'gaping throat'. Accounts for the deep hound sounding bark. Also - Don't google gaping throat. They also suffer really badly from seperation anxiety..
They DO NOT destroy everything they get their mouth on, only in the first year when they are teething. After that not so much. It's best to have a lot of chew toys that smell like themselves or you. I speak from experience, I owned 2 beagles for 18 years.
@@valwithes149 Yes they bay (howl/bark) however, I had one female that did not bay much at all. On the other hand my male you could hear a mile away in the open field and could rattle windows. Evey beagle is different in this area. I knew someone that trained their beagle to only bay in an emergency based on what they felt an emergency is. Beagles are horrible guard dogs but great watch dogs. Just some food for thought. Currently I have a 3.5 month old Treeing Walker Coonhound and I am sure someday she will bay but for now all is chilled.
She sure is cute! And yes, most dogs shed, but our last dog Dexter, he was cocker spaniel, and he didn't shed. We rarely found hair on our furniture. Bailey though, we find her hair everywhere 🤣💕🐶💕
My brother's dog of choice is labradors, I always thought they were quite greedy dogs, until I got my baby boy Stitch a British Standard Beagle, there was very few things that dog would eat, raw onion, garlic & mushrooms, he would even steal food that was bad for him, 2 box's of chocolates, grapes and half of a large watermelon, the watermelon was the worst, dogs can have it, but not the seeds, when they hit the stomach, they turn into poison, he was very sick and had to go to the vets, thankfully he recovered & lived to the age of 13 years and 5 months, he passed this year on the 7th of June, I think about him every day & miss him so so much, would give anything to have him back with me, he had sudden kidney failure, when he stopped eating I knew something was wrong, 1 week later he had to be put to sleep, they also found tumors inside him & fluid in his abdomen, it has broken my heart, he was the best dog in the world 💔🐾💔🐾💔
1. They follow their nose and won't listen when they have a scent. 2. They have to be on a leash at all times when you are walking them (don't let them run free unless they are in a fenced in area......this is an important rule). 3. They are prone to be over weight, ensure you don't overfeed them. They will eat any food placed in front of them like its their first meal in a week. 4. Recommend you keep them in a kennel when they are younger if you leave them at home alone. For the first few years, do not give them the run of the house when no one is home...you will be sorry if you do. 5. Don't let anyone tell you they are stupid. They are very smart. 6. They are great with kids.
i have 2 beagels, they are great for kids of any size. they are loving, fun, have energy, but not to much. you can train them early on, but do it with small treats and short training each day, because of attention span. start walking early, with leash if you start early they are the beat. but your flower beds or garden should be fenced. sorry i never got them to quit digging, beagles just do. this is and easy fix.
I am usually at school from 8 to 2:45 is it an issue to leave them home for that many hours? also if a beagle comes into my room will he destroy everything on my shelfs. I really want one but I'm trying to make sure it's the right decision.
Those are very good questions. We found that when Bailey was a puppy (under 1 year old) she would only stay in her kennel for a couple of hours before she started to bark. Now that she is older (almost 3 years old) she does ok in her kennel for up to 6 hours. We also don't leave her in her kennel everyday. She only stays in her kennel maybe a couple of times a month for longer than 4 hours, which she kinda likes because she has nice long naps. If you do get a puppy and kennel train them, they will get used to it, but the first year or two, you may need to go home once or twice throughout the day to let them out to go potty. Secondly, yes, if you leave your puppy in your room and not in a kennel, they will destroy things, and go potty on your floor. Watch some of Pipas the Beagle to see what happens when you leave your Beagle in your house alone.
Me and my dad live alone my beagles almost 2 now and she has to stay in her kennel for 8 hours a day,I will take her outside and make sure she uses the bathroom before hand and then I'll give her a icecube so even though she didn't get a drink of water she kind of did,I'll her kennel ready and then give her a milk bone before leaving,At first she didn't like it but she got used to it and realized that "Hey Everytime I go in this thing I get food!"But as soon as you can let him/her outside give them access to food and water and give them lots of attention (I don't have to leave my dog in her cage anymore untill like 4 weeks from now but still)Also last thing if you want to you can train them to go in there kennel at night so they will be more used to using there kennel now of course you don't have to but it's just a idea,Well I know I'm super late so this was useless to write but still
Was blessed to have my beagle, Blakely for 14 years. She was the best. My advice is if you don’t have a decent sized yard or a place for them to roam, take them on regular walks but keep them leashed unless they will stay right at your side because they roam and will follow whatever scent they catch. They are active and need exercise. My girl loved to play on the farm and enjoyed other animals. Very loyal and smart dogs. Friendly too. Can be vocal since they’re hound dogs so don’t be surprised if they sing along with you. Keep up with ear cleaning as well. My girl loved food but as she got older and wasn’t as active she did gain weight pretty easily and had to be put on a diet. I highly recommend them! I will definitely have another one one day.
Beagles always make great pets, you just need to have plenty of patience and train them. They are smart but be very stubborn. There nose gets them into a lot of trouble. My wife and I are working on our 3rd beagle. Wouldn't have any other kind of dog
I had 2 one beagle mix and one pureblood beagle, they were daisy and lily. Great dogs but I could have them outside fir hours running around ,we walked in the woods every day. But the only thing that they would do wrong is pee in house even though they had been outside for hours. I didn't care i just ripped up the rugs for Easier cleaning.
@@BaileyTheBeagle it's going good it has been an adventure he loves eating and running even after coming back from a long walk. He is such an adorable puppy
Great questions! They can be stubborn at times so they can be tough to train, but other than being a bundle of energy for the first couple of years, they slowly become medium maintenance I'll call it. They shed so they don't need haircuts. Relatively easy to bathe and wash. Better if they have a back yard to release that built up energy. They are known to destroy things when they sit for too long. They also have a loud bark, so an appartment may not be the best situation for a Beagle.
They are the cutest dog but they are stubborn to a fault. And they are smarter than you think. My dog often begs to go out but doesn't need to do any business. But he knows that the same sort of begging gets me to take him outside. Hunter is almost 7.
If you can crate train them, then leaving them alone for 8 hours although not ideal, could be a nice quiet time for your Beagle. It does take a lot of training, and not all puppies will be able to train. I'd be cautious.......maybe you could go home during lunch hour and let them out and play with them to break up the long day alone
I got a beagle over a year ago her name is"Rosie"She loves to cuddle,Is very playful and protective. When I get bored I will sit down and have a full on conversation with her,She'll look at me like she's trying to process it all.I got to say though she is very hyper I'd you leave for a few minutes and come back she'll be all over you,Her whole body wiggles 😂,She dose This excited whine if she gets to hyper.I got to say she's a pain in the butt,BUT she's the best thing that ever happened to me and I love her to death
Short coat, sheds once a year. Don't bark the place down. If let out, scent hound ,will not come back. Not even on calling follows so.e scent it picked up.
and nearly a 100 yr old Buffet (thats what we call it) , the knobs are still chewed up. Can't replace those. Best to find some bitter agent or something to protect those
What are some things that you would share about Beagles that others should know?
They are escape artists. Never, ever off leash unless securely fenced. They will follow their nose.

Bailey is Lovely !!!😙..I have a Beagle Sophie ❤❤...As you know...Beagles are The Best Loving Clever Dog !!!...But ..I am rather biased and all doggies are great 💙...
Agreed! All dogs are the best, and Beagles are great pets too! Thank you for watching :)
I love the part where she just skids into the camera. 😂😂
I have only had Beagles for the last 50 years. At one time 15, presently I have 2. I cannot live without a Beagle in my life.
Wow! That's a lot of Beagles 🐶🐶💕🐶🐶
Everything you said about them 100% true!!!
He rests in his bed after he shreds the Carton and makes a total mess. Hilarious.
Tearing cardboard is hard work lol
Beagle is believed to be from the old french word "be'guele" which means 'gaping throat'. Accounts for the deep hound sounding bark. Also - Don't google gaping throat. They also suffer really badly from seperation anxiety..
We used to have a beagle there was nothing more they enjoyed than a game of catch me if you can
The best dogs 🐕 ever ❤️
They DO NOT destroy everything they get their mouth on, only in the first year when they are teething. After that not so much. It's best to have a lot of chew toys that smell like themselves or you. I speak from experience, I owned 2 beagles for 18 years.
Do they bark/ howl "too" much??
@@valwithes149 Yes they bay (howl/bark) however, I had one female that did not bay much at all. On the other hand my male you could hear a mile away in the open field and could rattle windows. Evey beagle is different in this area. I knew someone that trained their beagle to only bay in an emergency based on what they felt an emergency is. Beagles are horrible guard dogs but great watch dogs. Just some food for thought. Currently I have a 3.5 month old Treeing Walker Coonhound and I am sure someday she will bay but for now all is chilled.
Very very true.
She looks so cute. Though I think every dog sheds , not just beagles btw.
She sure is cute!
And yes, most dogs shed, but our last dog Dexter, he was cocker spaniel, and he didn't shed. We rarely found hair on our furniture. Bailey though, we find her hair everywhere 🤣💕🐶💕
@@BaileyTheBeagle I have an American cocker spaniel and he sheds like hell..
Yep! What a mess 🤣💕🐶💕
@@BaileyTheBeagle mine's a mixed not sure of what bred but she def sheds a LOT too. I have her hair all over my shirt and bed
I've heard beagles are very hungry too. But I guess all dogs are :-)
Yes, Beagles especially will eat and eat and eat!
100% agree with every point. Obviously coming from someone who knows Beagles very very well!
@@BaileyTheBeagle Ha, ha. You are correct, I currently have two beagles and have had a total of four in my life.
We are the most loyal dogs!!
basically... They are crazy and funny.
I do love them. I already had two.
Absolutely! 100% 💕💕🐶💕💕
@@BaileyTheBeagle After I had beagle. I can realize why the author create Snoopy.
Bailey was looking at the camera like it’s was at this moment she knew she fricked up’ 1:52
oh yes and buy lots of chew toys, and several. love love our boy and girl. you can have one but Beagles are happier if they have a buddy
100% truth!
Beautiful
I have beagle, love him😃
What's your Beagle's name?
My beagle destroyed two couches but I still love him
Awww, yes, sure is hard to stay mad at them 💕🐶💕
Cutest thing ever
i have 2 beagels, they are great for kids of any size. they are loving, fun, have energy, but not to much. you can train them early on, but do it with small treats and short training each day, because of attention span. start walking early, with leash if you start early they are the beat. but your flower beds or garden should be fenced. sorry i never got them to quit digging, beagles just do. this is and easy fix.
Totally agree! And great advice Dianne!
Watching this video exactly after 10 days of getting a Beagle Pup 🤣🤣🤣
Hahah, and how has the first week gone?
@@BaileyTheBeagle not as scary as I thought 😅😅
I wrote a note to Santa to surprise me with beagle:)
Fingers crossed!
@@BaileyTheBeagle omg thanks for hoping🙏❤️
Did Santa bring a Beagle?
All of this is 100 percent true😂
Awesome story and great advice! Thank you for sharing
How big do they get? Mine is a puppy
Awww, Bailey❤😚😚😚😙😙❤❤❤❤
AHHHHHHHH So cute
I should have watched this before getting a beagle 😂
lol how's your experience been?
@@BaileyTheBeagle sometimes they're hard to deal with 😄 but love him with all my heart♥️
Beagles always make great pets, you just need to have plenty of patience and train them. They are smart but be very stubborn. There nose gets them into a lot of trouble. My wife and I are working on our 3rd beagle. Wouldn't have any other kind of dog
All 100% true. Can tell you've had lots of experience with those stubborn Beagles 😂
I have 3 beagles. They’re crazy but I love them bc I’m super active too
Awesome! What are their names?
I’m getting my beagle soon!
Yay! Have you picked out a name yet?
Bailey The Beagle not yet I’m so indecisive 🥰 but thinking biscuit for a boy and for a girl Reese like the candy
I love both of those!
Soooooooooo............cute :)
Thanks 💕🐶💕
I love you, Bailey💖

We watched the video too late, we already got a beagle
And how's it going?
@@BaileyTheBeagle it's going good it has been an adventure he loves eating and running even after coming back from a long walk. He is such an adorable puppy
They are adorable 💕🐶💕
where did you get her? we’ve been looking for a beagle
We found her from a breeder in Chilliwack, BC
Bailey The Beagle thank you!
Are they high maintinace dogs or easy to groom? Are they good for apartments or they must have a backyard?
Great questions! They can be stubborn at times so they can be tough to train, but other than being a bundle of energy for the first couple of years, they slowly become medium maintenance I'll call it.
They shed so they don't need haircuts. Relatively easy to bathe and wash.
Better if they have a back yard to release that built up energy. They are known to destroy things when they sit for too long.
They also have a loud bark, so an appartment may not be the best situation for a Beagle.
Here is a whole playlist of Beagle info ruclips.net/p/PLLm_6rHUie97Y2oH4c-oIOAYGsO1uCBnD
Alot of it depends of the demeanor of the pup some dont bark much others talk all the time
They are the cutest dog but they are stubborn to a fault. And they are smarter than you think. My dog often begs to go out but doesn't need to do any business. But he knows that the same sort of begging gets me to take him outside. Hunter is almost 7.
100% true! Very smart dogs 🐕
im getting a puppy like that today!
Congratulations!
@@BaileyTheBeagle thank you!
Would you advice to not get a beagle if it might be left alone for 8 hours sometimes during a day
If you can crate train them, then leaving them alone for 8 hours although not ideal, could be a nice quiet time for your Beagle. It does take a lot of training, and not all puppies will be able to train. I'd be cautious.......maybe you could go home during lunch hour and let them out and play with them to break up the long day alone
Epic expression Bailey
🤣🤪🤣💕💕🐶💕💕
FOOD is LOVE!
Especially with Beagles!
Awww, what a great story! Beagles are just the best!
1:48 that was smooooooth
Do they shed a lot?
I wouldn't say they shed a lot, but they do shed. We've been able to keep the house hair free with a little bit of cleaning, but nothing major
Baiiillleyyyy💛 luv her! Awesome Channel
Thank you for watching and thank you for supporting her channel!
Are you able to get a trained beagle
Yep, if you adopt one that's a little older and trained :)
Silly puppy to cute
Brother you may have not considered her diet!
Give her fooood!
Will do! She eats 4 times a day lol
Short coat,sheds once a year.
Don't bark the place down.
If let out, scent hound ,will not come back.
Not even on calling follows so.e scent it picked up.

you'll find hair on the scanner and on negatives as well.. Static electricity ?? even now 12 yrs after she's gone. Still do
It does stick around for a while
and nearly a 100 yr old Buffet (thats what we call it) , the knobs are still chewed up. Can't replace those. Best to find some bitter agent or something to protect those
