    Honestly, it depends on how the apartment complex is set up. Some use different addresses for their buildings, others use letters to distinguish them. Some are actually numbered by how many buildings their actually are. Or it could be a combination. I'd first stop at the leasing office for a map of the complex. After that I'd find all the corresponding addresses, letter, or number to each building. Basically grouping like with like. At that point you'll know how many are going to which building. Going to maps works only for GPS navigation. But if you have a map of the complex in hand you really don't need to use it. Also if there are multiples going to that building instead of finding it in the itinerary list, you can use the scan function at the top of list. This little feature allows you to go straight to the stop that a package is listed in. There are other tips and tricks, but the ones he showed are pretty basic. In facted they may not work for every complex set up. And don't get me started on why certain apartments label their apartments and buildings in strange ways. I've yet to figure out why using letters to identify individual apartments is a good idea. The number system works just fine. 100 first floor, 200 second floor, 300 third, makes sense right.

      Absolutely. But I can't put every scenario in a 4-5min video. 1 tip I would give you now is to download the Beans app. It's a lifesaver for efficiency in unfamiliar apartment complexes!

    my dsp did no relevant field training (training was more focused on driving safely). i had no ride along so just went in by myself. after watching your videos i now know how to be more organized and faster as a delivery driver. this video in particular helped me understand apartment complexes better because the grouping took sometimes just doesn’t group them in order and now ik how to do the pac-man method.

      @netti lazcano I don't know if you use the mentor app. But that's how they monitor us where I work at. I noticed if I have it on a second phone it doesn't catch me going above the speed limit yet haha.

      Organization is really key - and after you have done a route 3-4 times you start building route affinity which makes a HUGE difference!

    I am SO glad I watched this! I was having a great first day on nursery route 1 when all of a sudden I was in an apartment complex! Tight turns, hills, confusing layout lots of reversing. Then I remembered this video! I didn’t have time to rewatch it, but I found the itinerary button and maps and kind of figured it out as I went. I never fell behind. Thank you so much for your help!
    Btw my route is in vancouver 😉

    Wow I was struggling real bad today in a couple of complexes having to back up in crazy situations I was scared I was gonna hit something several times I looked like an idiot I spent at least 2 1/2 hours between both just following the gps in the order it gave me but this helped I like where you can just click to the pin near your van and it will just allow you to make that delivery I didn’t know that and you can turn your mobile data off for the stupid “out of range” feature

    All I know is I'm a new driver on my first route on my own with Amazon truck was an absolute nightmare once I hit a couple different retirement homes and apartment complexes. I didn't know how to do it fast it took me forever to find the right places and yes the geofence thing was really irritating. But when I turned off the mobile data I couldn't do anything at that point

    Great way im going to use this method. My question is when apartments have lockers that are owned by the apartments facility they tend to fill up quick. What is the best way to deliver the packages once the lockers are full? I normally start to deliver to customers doors but it takes alot of time when you have 30-50 packages😂😂

  • @davidrudd4869
    @davidrudd4869 4 года назад +3

    When are you sorting those packages for the apartments? Before your day? Or some time in between stops?

  • @dotdotzoom
    @dotdotzoom 4 года назад +3

    Thanks for this. So putting your phone in airplane mode is a get around for the geofence? 😳😳 did not know this. Some Apts have lockers yet the stops are at the buildings instead. It doesn't make sense. Then Id have to call support to get a round the geofences to deliver at the locker. I'm going to try the airplane mode now. That'll make life much easier! Thanks.

    • @dcanup98
      @dcanup98 3 года назад +1

      Only use it when you have to. Sometimes the app will allow you to move the pin to the correct location. This will usually fix the problem for future deliveries to that address. Using airplane mode will guarantee you'll have to use it again if you have that location again.

    • @JamesSmith-vb9dh
      @JamesSmith-vb9dh  3 года назад +2

      Works great for that exact scenario!

  • @bobbyedwards6385
    @bobbyedwards6385 4 года назад +2

    Dude! Awesome videos! My biggest nemesis out there is finding addresses with no numbers on the houses or curbs. I know the basics of odds and evens on either side of the street. But what about when there is no pattern or rhyme or reason to the numbering system?

    • @JamesSmith-vb9dh
      @JamesSmith-vb9dh  4 года назад +2

      The Geo-Fence for the address is the last resort in a lot of cases. Sometimes you have to look at any houses nearby and see if you can figure it out based on what their numbers are and then start walking towards the Pin showed in the App. It's frustrating and in a Trailer Park where not a SINGLE GeoPin is correct? Horrible!

    This past weekend, me and my wife did 2 shifts. 63 stops with 68 parcels. 45 of the stops were condos/apartments in Downtown Calgary. I try to be as patient as possible trying to get in, but if I can’t get in after 5 minutes, I scan the package and leave it. No negative feedback to date.

    It randomly pops up a pin in the same area because that specific stop, for some reason, is not grouped and became its own stop.
    That literally happened to me today!
    RV park with 11 stops, I ignored the rabbit and sorted pkgs via lot location. My 3rd stop said wrong barcode and I was like WTF, looked at the app and it was a separate stop..

  • @rutheemorris2249
    @rutheemorris2249 3 года назад +1

    toward end of the video, I didn't understand the case for skipping to scanning a package to find the stop it's at. Would that be in the case that there's an 'extra' package not listed in the itenerary? lost me there.

    • @justinholland9844
      @justinholland9844 3 года назад

      In apartments you should basically start at the closest building to the entrance and just hit each building in order from there. In this case you won't be following the itinerary, and using the scan feature is a quick way to skip to whatever package you need to deliver next. An even easier way is just to group the entire complex.

    I have been trying to find out how Amazon configures Flex for routes. What are the basic timings for apartment deliveries vs. single homes etc.
    There seems to be a lot of confusion and no one really knows the basic structure for route estimation in Flex. Does anyone know? Is there any place you can contact outside of your DSP because they don't seem to know either.

    i was wondering because it was going to be my first time ordering on Amazon and I'm in an apartment complex, and people in my complex steal others packages and now they usually ring the doorbell so I can come out and get it! x

    • @happyswitch994

      Most of our DSP's use CAT phones only because of their durability. Any android will suffice, I have used my personal $50 Motorola e6 that I picked up at Walmart many times.

    Or you can do what I do instead of organizing them inside your van is too load it all into a tote and bring a skateboard and push it around my Branch we are allowed to bring skateboards and scooters and I'll have a list 16664 unit A , B , D , 16665 Unit D, C , 16666 unit B , C and just read it off and drop it off , message your dispatcher that you delivered all those packages and they just close the invoice out for you without taking a stupid picture

      I actually prefer to turn off internet data because it doesn't switch off the Bluetooth and disable the app. After turning off data just scan the package, deliver and take the photo. After you 'Swipe to Finish', turn the data back on.

      Lmao have you worked as an Amazon delivery driver ? There is so many things wrong with how Amazon does things first it’s the take a pic of delivery wastes way too much time since there’s no point people have cameras everywhere why take a pic of a package second the way routes are set up is stupid and all over the place 3 there’s not enough time to deliver packages especially on a route heavy with apartments. Apartments always waste an easy 20 to 30 minutes for just 10 packages
