Mike, congratulations on finishing your summer semester (and the dreaded algebra)! I am so glad you and Jeannie are taking a well-deserved break! I absolutely adore your new camper ❤ It is so impressive that it is all original, inside and out! I look forward to following your side channel for the camper. I hope you plan to give the camper a cute name!
I have been fascinated with trailers since I was a child. This one is amazing! You could take it to a vintage trailer show. I hope you have a great getaway.
My husband and I own a 1955 Shasta and we love it. Hope you have a great time and meet up with other campers that are like minded. We use to camp with some friends that had a camper like yours. We hope you have a great time.
Those old Shastas are great.... love those wings! We were camping in Sequoia National Park several years ago and I was sitting there talking to our son when a perfectly restored red and white 1960s Shasta rolled by. That was a life changing moment!
I can not wait for you to go to the Smokey's. It is so beautiful and relaxing. I grew up in Tennessee and have been many times. When you go to Caves code they may have one of the cabins open and people reenacting mountain life and History it is worth the stop to visit. The camping will be so great. Wake to the mountain air. Have the best time.
To kill those stubborn trees, spray the cuts with Roundup. It works. I do it with unwanted tree growth. Let Jeannie know she can spread Ortho Sevin dust in her plant beds when it is dry weather to kill those pesty bugs.
$200 a night is not too bad. Last October I paid $260 per night for two nights in the original part of Old Faithful Inn in Yellowstone National Park. It was worth every penny to experience what it was like 100 years ago. The only drawback was the toilets were down the hall but very modern by today’s standards along with the showers. The lobby of the Inn is a masterpiece of architecture and right out the door was Old Faithful.
That sounds wonderful! We stayed at the Isaac Walton Inn up north of there, a railroad themed hotel that happens to sit along the railroad, and it was also very vintage.
Cool camper! Enjoy many happy miles in it. Can't believe it's been a year since you finished the planters....seems like yesterday...or maybe couple of months ago.
Well, considering you took us on a trip to the dump in one of your videos, I'd say a trip to Smoky Mountains National Park is a definite step up Ha Ha, I look forward to your trailer escapades.
The camping trailer is super cute. It makes sense, especially since you have a heavy duty truck to pull it. Restored retro campers are pretty popular here in CA. You will probably need stump killer to get rid of those trees. Maybe cut away most of the thick stump with the chain saw from the side away from the bricks, then finish the rest with a small tree saw. Then drill (maybe half inch) holes into the top of the stump and apply stump killer. You can see what's available/ legal where you live. I've seen where you have to light it on fire. It may take a number of months for it to work, unfortunately. We had a 15 ft pecan tree that grew about 5 inches from the side of our old 1950s patio. The stump kept sprouting, so we had to get serious.
People are pulling old campers out of the brush or barns and fixing them up. A lot of them are so bad that they can only serve as patterns to completely rebuild the trailer. We were really surprised to find this one in such good shape.
What a great travel trailer. I love the vintage styling. I can just see Jeanie cooking up some fabulous meals while camping. Congrats on the algebra Mike. You worked hard for it. Hoping you get the A.
If you get a chance, visit Daisy town in Elkmont in the Smokies. Also, you can rent RV SPACES IN THE TOWN OF TOWNSEND on the cades cove side of the Smokies. The quite side of the Smokies. Y’all will love it

I haven't slept on the ground in decades. When I have went camping I took an airbed. Glamping is extremely practical in today's world where deluxe self inflating airbeds are easy to come by. Multi-room tents that you can stand up in are not as expensive as one trip to an Air BnB. You have to level your campsite still, but practically speaking it is pretty easy to camp in comfort. You can even power your site with portable solar arrays. If you really wanted to do it right you can bring starlink internet if you really enjoy that offgrid lifestyle. Edited to add, I am looking for a stripped out one bedroom Airstream or Spartan to turn into a guest house and recording studio.
How interesting! You two are doing what my husband and I are attempting. We want to travel, too, so we bought an old conversion van. Because of its size, I’ve named it Harry Elephanté (I’m a Mini Cooper/Wrangler type, so this was a big adjustment). Hope we get to travel with our dogs, soon.
I live vicariously through you in old house restoration already, but now I get to on another dream! Old camper restoration and camping! I will be turning 60 years old and have always loved big old houses and hated seeing them renovated and not restored… I mean since I can remember at 5 and 6 years old. We lived in a tiny old house that was a two bedroom rental while my parents were building our 3 bedroom ranch. Next door to this rental was a huge old Victorian house in perfect condition. It was passed down through the family if I remember correctly. I loved going into this house and just absorbing all of the beauty of the woodwork, doors, built ins, flooring… every little detail. Camping desires started at that same time when another neighboring family became close and lifelong family friends. They always owned campers and invited me along throughout the years. My parents would not camp, and detested it. Then I get married and my husband had no desire to camp either. Years into our marriage, we just had our 3 oldest kids, we had several friends who tent camped together at nearby campgrounds. We bought a tent and all the equipment and began tent camping for the next 4-5 years. The summer of 2006 I went on bed rest with our first surprise pregnancy and I refused to tent camp and held out for a camper. Another surprise pregnancy in 2009… still no camper. The 3 older are all grown and out of the house, and our two surprise babies are almost 17 and 14… still no camper. I watch RV bloggers and old camper restoration videos all the time. My husband has no desire to pull a camper or drive an RV, even though I promised to be the driver, he is firm against it. If God had meant for me to have this dream come true He would have put it in my parents’ or my husband’s heart so I accept that it is not for me. However, I will enjoy watching you in your camper restoration and camping experiences. ❤😊
I pulled the DOT code and found they were manufactured in 2014 so we should be OK for a season. The trailer came with a spare and we're definitely taking it with us!
The camper has been so beautifully taken care of over the years. I’m glad we’re in a time of enjoying and preserving the cool and quirky interior designs of our recent past like this camper. Can’t wait to see the adventures you go on in it. Love the diversity of topics. You guys always go to enriching places and feature them in equally as enriching ways.
Hey Mike. I was looking at a speed heater to remove some old paint. It was suggested that applying raw linseed oil 24 hours prior to removing the paint will make it a quick and easy job! You probably already know that but I don’t remember you saying that. Just trying to share some knowledge. Have a fantastic weekend!
Your trailer reminded me so much on our first motor home we bought. A1973? Winnebago Brave. It was almost identical to the layout of your trailer, except it was a class A. It was a 'bargain'! Every trip was an 'adventure'. It leaked pretty badly... but we had so much fun. I hope you have as much fun as we used to have. Enjoy your few days away.
I love your new camper! I hope you two have many wonderful adventures with it. Congratulations on finishing up your algebra class. I hope you do get that A. That's something to be proud of! I am not a fan of that class. My teacher gave me extra credit for making my equations neat on the page (that gives you an idea on how well I did in that class) She was trying to help me out..haha That was many years ago though. About the same time your camper was built! 😄 Have fun on your well deserved trip!
Congratulations on passing Algebra! I'm not a math person but my son is a civil engineer. He took math classes I cant even pronounce! Lol. Hopefully, that was the end of math for you, and you won't have to go further in the subject. I love the camper. I hope you are recoding the trip. I would love to see it. 😊
Congratulations on your good mark in Algebra, finally it is out of the way. I love old trailers, we used to own one it was like a little doll house, it had an upstairs. We were more stay in one campground type people. We started out with truck campers and progressed from there. It was great for the kids, they loved it. I would be very interested in your spin off channel and look forward to watching it. Enjoy your summer break.
Congratulations on gettling through that Algebra class! Kudos to your stick-to-it-ivness! Fantastic camper. Such a great find, Jeannie! Enjoy your respite!
Oh my goodness. My parents had an older model of this Scottie parked close by the house. All of us… grandkids plus great ones have played, slept, eaten and cleaned in it. What fun memories it brought back. I think my sister may still have it but not in this condition anymore 🥺 Have fun and congratulations on your studies. 🥰
That's awesome! Back in the day, they were just normal campers and we didn't give it much thought. Funny how seeing these vintage campers brings back memories!
We tent camped there. The only drawback was how damp it is there. Waking up in a damp sleeping bag and pillow is not fun lol. Its so shaded there that nothing dries out either. It was gorgeous but I wouldn't do it again.
@@1834RestorationHouse It was in the summer. They named it the Great Smoky mountains because of the fog. You are basically in a cloud so its always damp.
My husband and I tried RVing with mixed results. I'll be watching with great interest how you do in your travels! Thanks for sharing your adventures with all of us!
I just love your little Serra Scotty! That’s gonna be so fun to restore! I hope all the mechanicals work for you, but as with all campers, there are bound to be problems! Ask me how I know! Lol! Just be sure that you put new tires on it before you take it anywhere! That’s the main thing! (And of course check the frame and axles etc for rust, but I’m sure you knew that!) So glad to hear that you’ve gotten that dang algebra behind you! Hope the fall courses will be a breeze for you! And I’m so glad you finally revealed the purpose of the mystery structure last time! An ice house of course! Makes so much sense, particularly after you found all the history of the original owners! I wish you said more of how you came on to all that history, but I have to say you made an awesome video on that one! Best ever! I hope you and Jeannie enjoy your time off! Travel safe! Best, Jan.
Hi Jan! We went to our local historical museum and they triggered an avalanche of new information. We happened to stop by on the first day open since covid closures.
@@1834RestorationHouse That’s awesome! It must have amazed you guys to find out all that information about your house and that family and their importance in your town! Such precious knowledge!
when exposing the roots, make sure only to hit the tree roots of trees you want to remove - your magnolia might have roots all the way over there, and don't want to hurt it by hitting its roots - cheers! nice vintage trailer
Congrats, Mike, on not just passing Algebra, but acing it! All you needed was the knowledge you had stored away with a good instructor to help you make sense of it! I'm so happy you found that this semester. Teaching math is a very real skill and not everyone who is good at math is good at teaching math to others. That trailer is amazing, Jeanie and Mike! I wouldn't change a thing other than repair mechanicals. The wood, the fabric pattern, the color outside... All beautiful! What a find! I'm looking forward to footage of your trip to Cade's Cove. We went when I was about 8-10, can't remember exactly because we made several trips to the Smokeys when I was child. I remember it feeling like a very special place, almost sacred feeling. I'm curious how it feels as an adult and 50+ years later! Enjoy your new camper trailer and enjoy your getaway. You've both certainly earned it!
As a child my parents and 3 sisters would camp in a pop-up trailer. Although we were cramped in the tiny trailer, we had the time of our lives! I’m sure that’s where I got my love of nature and animals. You two are going to have a great time in your “vintage” camper. Is that awning I see attached to the front roof? That’ll be nice relaxing in your lawn chairs. I’ll definitely subscribe to the new channel when it’s up. Congratulations Mike! I know from personal experience how difficult college algebra can be and to come out the other end with an A shows a tremendous amount of work & perseverance! Hugs, Doc❤
Love your camper. So cool that it’s all still original. The color I like too. You can definitely tell it’s from the 70tys with the color of the cushions. I have to laugh at myself I liked those colors back then. Had it through out my house. Fortunately that fad has sailed n hope it doesn’t come back cuz this old gal had it once n over it. I think that’s wonderful that your taking some time for yourselves n taking a mini vacation. You both deserve it. Mike you working so hard with your algebra n Jeannie putting up with your frustration 🤣 you need that time together n forget your troubles. Oh yes, would love to come along on any of your camping trips. It’ll be fun n maybe educational. Take care of one another n see you soon. ♥️♥️😊👍👍🌟🌟
May I suggest, new tires, wheel bearings, axle and suspension inspection before asthetics. My uncle spent a day and a half under a camper trailer winching, chaining and securing the axle that broke loose from the bottom of his quaint little avocado green camper. He was parked beside blacktop that was hot enough to fry an egg on.
I’m all shades of envy over your adorable vintage trailer. I love, love the colors of the exterior. I’m looking forward to seeing any renovations you have planned. I have a Mini Clubman as my driver or else I’d be scrolling the internet looking for one for me! Maybe I can source a vintage teardrop?
Love that cute little camper. For its age it looks to be in great shape. Have fun with it! I'm glad to know summer school went pretty well. About your tree stumps by the ice house. I use a pair of heavy duty loppers. I dig, and when I see roots, I cut them. I have also used a pruning saw. Sticking your chain saw in the dirt would be bad. Perhaps you could loosen up the stumps enough to push them out with the tractor. Good luck with that.
Hope you enjoy your trip to the Smoky Mountains. Note that the Cades Cove loop is closed to motor vehicle traffic on Wednesdays, May through September and that you do have to purchase a parking permit now to park in the park. I would recommend hiking the short hike to the Clingmans Dome observation tower from the parking lot, which is not too far a drive from Cades Cove. It's the highest peak in the park and also Tennessee. Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge are very touristy now although the Titanic Museum is a nice attraction. Good luck!
@@1834RestorationHouse Yeah, but at least they don't charge an entrance fee. If you like caves and don't mind several steps, Tuckaleechee Caverns on the Townsend side of the park is a great place to tour.
Cute trailer/RV. A couple months ago I was googling RVs and ran across a site where a company is building "retro" trailers. The color schemes are very similar to yours but they also offered a red with white paint job. I thought the concept was fantasic and you are so lucky to find a pre owned one. Funny how the cushion covers reminded me of the Peter Max designs of that decade. "Cool, man!" Keep on truckin' ( in this case, RVing)! 😊😅😂❤
That old camper is the cats meow!! Love it. Go enjoy yourselves. Mike I feel your pain on the college math as I’m currently taking a math class for college as well. Really enjoy the videos. From one Victorian house lover to another take care.
Hope you have a great getaway, you deserve it. Love your channel, looking to the additional one about the camper. It is so cute, vintage is awesome! Enjoy!
Hard work and perseverance always pays off. I did that route going to summer school and getting my algebra out of the way before nursing school. It's hot here in N. Idaho too. I hate sleeping on the ground and I'd rather be glamping. But I don't do that anymore either. I'd rather get a hotel. When things fall into your lap, you know it's right. 1978 is the year I graduated from high school.🤣😂🏕
Make a vertical cut on that large stump. Expose fresh wood and then paint it with Roundup. This is what foresters do when trying to clear invasive non-native species. If you’re going to just put a building there anyway when you rebuild the ice house/summer kitchen, it’s not going to go anywhere else in your yard.
@@1834RestorationHouse ps I love the camper van. It’s so nice in really great condition. You did great guys finding that. Obviously meant to be. Exciting times ahead for you both and I’ll be watching and enjoying as you share your wonderful journeys. Much love xxx ❤️😘
So I honeymooned at Smokey mountain national park back in ‘84. Beautiful place. No Dollywood back then. Lol And I got a vintage camper recently that I’m planning to restore so my life is starting to mirror yours somewhat. I’m also studying electronics and yeah, the math is tough so congrats to you! Have a wonderful time on your vacation’
I taught math and all kinds of computer programming languages like C++ and Visual Basic, as well as Systems analysis and Design, statistics, teleprocessing, and Data structures. It all just came naturally and I used to get all excited when I was teaching and the students would scowl at me and say “You’re really having fun with this are t you? My granddaughter struggled terribly with math and she said “Who invented math anyhow? I like to yell at him! It’s a mean invention!” I had to laugh because it was hard to explain that math wasn’t invented it just the way math is and people studied it for many hundreds of years to figure out how it worked. So I can empathize
Lol! They didn't know what they were missing! My favorite part is making things disappear across the "=" or the fraction bar and making the complex problem become simple. My nemesis is the asymptote!
@@1834RestorationHouse just this week I dug out both my latin textbook from high school and the technology math that I aced and then taught. I keep hearing about it being important to keep my mind active so I think I will work through some lessons in math and also Latin. I The Latin is simply because a colleague of mine has challenged me to a trivia game and I’m doing terribly. Mostly because I don’t know anything about sports or tv shows. And lots of the questions are scientific or medical and so many times I knew if I could remember more Latin I could figure it out. So it’s the only way to redeem myself.
@@1834RestorationHouse I forgot this one. My grandson has a forestry degree but he had to graduate a year after his classmates because he failed math. So he’s been working in his field (for and arborist who trains his employees very well. And he loves it so to celebrate his one year anniversary being employed in the area he trained for, I got him a drink cozy (you know the insulated sleeve to put around beverages that come in cans and bottles to keep them cold. But the best part was on the front it read “Yet another day in the real world and I’ve yet to use algebra” it’s was worded differently but the sentiment is the same. Sounds like you might need one of those.
Hi Mike and Jeanie, Just a gentle suggestion is that before you start a second channel to consider polling your viewers/members for interest in that (although perhaps you have so I don't want to presume). Just of course my own perspective, but I consistently watch channels such as yours where I really like the people, not just the specifics of the content. When they share a bit about other aspects of their lives and adventures it brings a greater sense of connection and therefore, engagement to their main channel for me and I don't feel it detracts because, as you say, in your case the restoration of your house is the main focus. Wishing you the best.
Lilla, thanks for writing. We're already running four different RUclips channels on different topics, some with completely different audiences so a fifth channel is no problem for us. In the past we've tried adding cooking content and historic site visits to our restoration channel, but nobody watches those videos. We have to stay fairly focused on the house. Thanks for watching!

Teachers can be great when the going gets rough! I got the A!
@@1834RestorationHouse Congratulations!!
Enjoy your trip! 😊
Thank you, We will!
Lol! Next up is trigonometry, followed by geometry, calculus 1, calculus 2, and finally calculus 3.
@@1834RestorationHouse oh, my! Hopefully, you'll find the rest of the math more tolerable. Hugs

Thank you! We'll let everyone know when we have the new channel up.
Congratulations on gettling through that Algebra class! Kudos to your stick-to-it-ivness! Fantastic camper. Such a great find, Jeannie! Enjoy your respite!
Thank you Kathleen!
I really enjoyed this video. Congratulations on passing Algebra.
Thanks! It's a huge relief to be done with it. Thanks for watching!
Oh my goodness, that camper is you! Congratulations on your trip to my beloved East Tennessee.
We're looking forward to spending some time over there with our old Scotty. :-)
I love your camper and am looking forward to the new channel. 🎉
Yay! Thank you!
Oh my goodness. My parents had an older model of this Scottie parked close by the house. All of us… grandkids plus great ones have played, slept, eaten and cleaned in it. What fun memories it brought back. I think my sister may still have it but not in this condition anymore 🥺
Have fun and congratulations on your studies. 🥰
Wow thank you for sharing that story!
Mike and Jeanie have fun.👍
That camper is reminiscent of the one my family had when I was growing up. Your camper brought back a lot of happy memories!
That's awesome! Back in the day, they were just normal campers and we didn't give it much thought. Funny how seeing these vintage campers brings back memories!
We've been RVing for years in a Class A; looking forward to seeing what you do with your new/old trailer.
We tent camped there. The only drawback was how damp it is there. Waking up in a damp sleeping bag and pillow is not fun lol. Its so shaded there that nothing dries out either. It was gorgeous but I wouldn't do it again.
Oh... What time of the year did you go?
@@1834RestorationHouse It was in the summer. They named it the Great Smoky mountains because of the fog. You are basically in a cloud so its always damp.
My husband and I tried RVing with mixed results. I'll be watching with great interest how you do in your travels! Thanks for sharing your adventures with all of us!
Thank you Vivianne!
Good point!
Thank you Lucinda! You might just need to take another trip over there and check it out! ;-)

It does seem like it's about time! 😄
love the camper
The trailer is just too cute--wouldn't change a thing :) And, would love to come along on your excursions :)
Thank you for watching! Those seat cushions are so fun!
Hugs, Doc❤
Thanks for sharing the memories! Yes, the trailer has an awning up there, but we haven't pulled it out yet. 💖
We had an orange and white pop up growing up. What a gas! Such great memories. Thx for sharing.
@@onahamilt2907 How many people stayed in your pop-up? We used ours every summer for about seven years.
Would love to see another channel about the restoration or the trailer!!!
Great! We'll see about setting one up.
I love Cade's Cove! Love your little camper & the outside colors!
We do too!
♥️♥️😊👍👍🌟🌟
Thank you Shelly! We're eager to get started! 💖
Love the Smokey Mountains and especially Cades Cove.. Enjoy your time off!
Thanks! Will do!
The tires are still in good shape but getting on towards the 10 year mark, so new ones are planned in the future.
Yay Mini! :-) There are a lot of small homebuilt teardrops out there that might work for you, some with really neat cabinetry and kitchenettes.
We may have to bring in a small excavator to dig it out. At our old "1834" house we had to dig out 50 old overgrown hedges.
@@1834RestorationHouse I can see that a small excavator could really do the job on those tree stumps.
I LOVE IT!! I graduated high school in 1978!!!
Nice! You have me beat by a couple of years (but not very many!). :-)
Oh! I Love it! Happy camping!
Good luck!
Thanks for the tips! Can you believe that the same time we show, up they decide to start charging to park?
@@1834RestorationHouse Yeah, but at least they don't charge an entrance fee. If you like caves and don't mind several steps, Tuckaleechee Caverns on the Townsend side of the park is a great place to tour.
Enjoy your holiday and break time. Hugs and love from Ireland
Thanks for watching in Ireland, my (Mike) ancestral homeland!
Ten-Four, good buddy!
It’s like I always say, nothing good comes from algebra.
That's a good one!!
That old camper is the cats meow!! Love it. Go enjoy yourselves. Mike I feel your pain on the college math as I’m currently taking a math class for college as well. Really enjoy the videos. From one Victorian house lover to another take care.
Daniel, thank you! We'll report back on how it went. Keep up the pressure on the math, soon you'll be past it and on to the good stuff!
Oh super cool love the little old trailer
Hope you have a great getaway, you deserve it. Love your channel, looking to the additional one about the camper. It is so cute, vintage is awesome! Enjoy!
Thanks so much!
Great find! I can’t believe how good of shape it’s in! I’m jealous. But very happy for y’all 😊
We could hardly believe it. The upholstery is in pristine condition!
How fun enjoy yourselves!
You live in campers paradise! We've always enjoyed visiting Idaho.
Thank you Trace, I'll try that.
Cool, can’t wait to come with you on your camping travels. How exciting! Lisa xx ❤

No, I’m doing Stan Gibilisco course, I’m sure you’re familiar with his courses. It’s tough. I’m a total newbie😊

I got the "A"!
Love the camper!
Did you see the floor? That's some pattern they had in there. :-)
Love Cades Cove. Put your walking shoes on.😊
To quote Jimmy Buffet, "I've got my hiking shoes on...."

Probably 8 semesters left. I'm walking one day at a time.....
Cool camper.
Thanks!
I camped there about 40 years ago
I suspect that it hasn't changed much in 40 years, except the size of the campers that visit.
Might a tree stump grinder attachment be available for your tractor????
Probably.
You need an all season plants which one season ends them the next season comes in and blooms and so forth blooms all year round
Great idea! Jeanie is trying to figure out which ones work best in that spot.
