      I'm Mexican and idk how to feel about it , I'm not really offended but I'm not that into it . it's just a stereotype that I've seen everywhere but people do have the right to be offended if they feel that way.

    I think momoland just trying to make a characteristic on their music, so when people heard to their music they will recognize it directly and know that what music they heard is music that is produced by momoland, maybe this kind of beat and music will be their identity so people would recognize it well.

    I like your honest reaction as always. Thank you again for reminding people not to get overboard with "cultural appropriation" stuff, because it is really bothering. They don't make fun of it or disrespect anybody! We can even see this as promotion of equality between different cultures. Please react to the Day6 Shoot me. They are not a k-pop boy-group but a band of musicians . They are one of the most talented and underrated groups over there. 🎈🌸❤

    I think they did a really good job of representing the traditional dress of a lot of cultures without going into stereotype. And theeeeen there is the mexican bandito. Ummmmm....

    • @lavam2745
      @lavam2745 6 лет назад +4

      Right there’s so many traditional Mexican dresses they could have used a quick google search would have sufficed idk how they thought that was a good idea especially with them going to Mexico soon ...yikes

    • @darkfeelings5
      @darkfeelings5 6 лет назад +8

      LAVA M dude!!! Have been to some parts in Mexico? This is exactly how they look! And the mustache?
      The cherry on top of the cake...!!!! Half my uncles have this type of mustache! It was great that they included us!!!!

    • @lavam2745
      @lavam2745 6 лет назад +4

      darkfeelings5 I’m Mexican so yes I know what Mexicans look like I’ll try to explain as best as I can what they portrayed in the MV is based of stereotypes and the shirt she was wearing wasn’t of Mexican culture it is of African culture a Dashiki. Now it’s a good concept to try to include lots of different countries and cultures and it could have been great but the stylist team obviously did not do their research. Eric nam has included Mexican cultures in his music videos and did a good job I recommend “Potion”. Hopefully now you can see why people are upset. All I’m saying is all they had to do was dress in traditional Mexican dresses but chose what people commonly use to mock Mexicans, not saying they are mocking us but that’s what rubs people the wrong way.

    • @Saktoth
      @Saktoth 6 лет назад +4

      The problem is that Korea mostly gets it's ideas about non-asian cultures from American media. But they don't have the context to understand those images. The rap here is using the style of the rapping in This is America. Do you think they had the full context to understand what that song is about?! Man I barely understand it there is so much going on in that video. You think they know about the Charleston Church shooting? Or do they just see it as a cool rap song and maybe it's kinda 'gangsta' because he shoots people and that is the image they have of black people, which isn't what the song is about at all. Now it's fine that they use the rap (It's not like they referenced the clip, can you imagine how weird that would be), but it just gives you an example of how cross-cultural translation can fail to understand something.
      There is only one of the girls dressed in that Mexican outfit, the rest are actually wearing Football outfits. South Korea is really big on Football, so this is literally the only two things they know about Mexico: Banditos charicatures from western media, and football. They didn't really do their research.
      All the other costumes are really faithfully executed (except Ancient Egypt but that's a dead culture so whatever). I mean I didn't even know that that was the traditional dress of the Philippines, in fact I suspect they knew their viewers would not be able to recognise it which is why they gave them a Philippine flag. They clearly did their research and understood the cultures they were giving call-outs too., especially the asian ones because they have more contact and proximity to them. But they wanted to call out Latin America because they know Kpop is big there, which is nice of them to do, but what they ended up doing just feels lazy.
      No hate for momoland, the song is a bop. This is a much broader problem in Korea with idols doing blackface and using the n word and doing impersonations because they have 0 context to understand what those things mean, they just need to educate themselves if they're going to borrow things. We engage in cultural critique of the things we like because
      we like them, we don't need to become antifans about it.

I am Mexican-American and I was not the least bit offended about the Mexican outfit in the video. I had a nice laugh at it and was happy to see my culture get a little shout out in the video lol. Philippines, Vietnam and Mexico in that order are their biggest fans. Thats why there was a Filipino and Mexican flag that was shown to show the international merries that Momoland loves us. Momoland truly loves their fans and they showed that appreciation in their music video. I don't know why people will get offended cause real fans are very happy to see their cultures being represented in their favorite group latest comeback. People gets angry just to be angry I guess.
    The song pretty much have the same build as Bboom Bboom, start with Daisy followed by Ah In then they switched Jane and Tae Ha part, Nancy + Joo E chorus, Daisy rap part, repeat formula with 1st stanza. The difference is Yeon Woo didn't do the bridge but Hye Bin and the last chorus had a harmonizing part which Bboom Bboom didn't have. And I've listening to the teasers more 1000 times already cause I personally think that the chorus is way catchier than Bboom Bboom and I can only pray for the success of Momoland.

      I think I am not in the right position to say anything about those cultures as I do not know enough to say weather they were wrong or not. Since I couldn't tell if it was legit or not I just decided not to mention it, I think it's better to not say anything than to say anything wrong, especially when it comes to culture you know. After reading some of the comments telling me about the mistake I understand but other than that I think the MV was fine.

    boom boom and baam sound similar because they're both written by Shinsadong Tiger, (who has written many big hits over the past 20 years) and continues to be a hit machine. As far as those that are easily offended, they are usually the same ones advocating diversity.....kind of hypocritical huh? LOL

    tbh i don't think u should speak for *everybody* bc some people were genuinely offended by the mv.
    also, for the portrayal of Mexicans, they slapped on a fake moustache and a traditional *African* shirt, which i think is very disrespectful.
    and the reason i think you didn't offend anybody for wearing the hanbok is because you were in korea and you were probably respectful about it

    • @GZBKarma
      @GZBKarma  6 лет назад +4

      And that's why is it MY reaction and MY opinion. Is it okay not to agree with what I said but I just want to let you know that I decided not to talk about the mexican/african part because I have little to no knowledge of that culture and thus was not in a position to say anything. I think sometimes it's better not to say anything than to say something wrong you know? That's why I only mentioned both of my culture and the Egyptian one that I know a little bit about, enough for me to see that I was not offended and that the girls did nothing to offend the said cultures.
      I can understand people being offended by the MV but who are they blaming then? Who should we blame for those kind of mistakes? I don't mean to say to completely disregard those mistakes but instead of just being offended it also might be a great opportunity to educate people on those culture.
      Also to touch up on your last point, you could be wearing a traditional clothes anywhere and everywhere, not necessarily in the original country. Why should it be confined to only wear the outfit in the original country? As I said in the video, as long as you are showing respect to it through your action, it is not cultural appropriation, in my opinion.

    Yeah the song structure is very similar to Bboom Bboom and it’s working for them. The only issue I had with the video was the Mexican wearing a dashiki with sneakers like was that really needed? Everything else in the video was actually good but that’s the only part that kinda made me look at it funny

    I’m such a big fan of momoland I really do stan them and I hope they can prosper. All though I do somewhat like the rhythm of Baam, I’m really disappointed it’s similar to bboom bboom. I hope they can make songs that are more different but what ever concept they like, just not making replicas of their own songs. No hate and all love for momoland. I really love this video and hearing your opinion 💕💕💕💖

    I honestly wouldn't be mad about the Mexican part if they weren't wearing the mustache I do find that offensive and it's kinda like making fun of my culture. I just wish they wore an actual Mexican dress because they're beautiful asf but no they choose a god damn mustache great.

    I think that Ah Yea and Up and Down wasn't really copying. The two have kinda similar song progression but the sound is pretty different. The chorus's do sound similar in both but thats about it. In this I feel that the similarities are blatant to the point where it feels... Kinda cheap and less creative. I think fans who are pretty into Momoland and like their other music would have preferred a different song because we know they are more talented than just bboom bboom. I doubt anyone wants 3 Bboom Bbooms.

    • @GZBKarma
      @GZBKarma  6 лет назад

      From what I can remember I didn't say it was copying but rather what I meant was that both songs were similar , the first one did really great so they went with the same pattern for the following song.
      And I completely agree with you on your last point, I hope their next comeback wont sound too similar to this or bboom bboom.

    it's true what you said abt wearing clothes from other countries being allowed as long as you're respectful. unfortunately the way they chose to depict mexican culture is incorrect, disrespectful, and harmful. insteadd of trying to reflect real mexican culture, they portrayed the mexican caricature that is so often depicted in media throughout the world but is nothing but a racist idol. i love the song and the video tho besides that and i agree that everything else they did was as far as i can tell just fun.

    • @GZBKarma
      @GZBKarma  6 лет назад +2

      I see yout point, i decided not to talk about that part of the mv as I have very poor knowledge of that culture thus i decided not to say anything about that ^^

    • @Sisc0o
      @Sisc0o 6 лет назад +1

      +GZBKarma yeah I agree with gai fieri like they could have worn tradition Mexican dresses which would go so well with all the other dresses they were were wearing in the video. That was the only culture they weren’t wearing dresses and instead wore the stereotypical sombrero and mustache. Also the poncho has odd patterns that look more African than Mexican. But I get where you were saying about the cultural appropriation thing. It’s just with this instant it is.
