    In making the 1940 movie "The Mark of Zorro" with Tyrone Power there was a scene when a trap is laid for Zorro, with Sergeant Gonzales riding in a closed coach. Zorro waylays the coach and taunts the sergeant. He then cuts a "Z" into the upholstery of the opposite seat. A fearfully wide-eyed Gonzales gasps "The mark of Zorro!"
    The director knew that executive producer Daryl F Zanuck was watching the daily rushes. As a prank he had Power and George Regas (Gonzales) reshoot the scene with a minor change. The initials carved into the leather by Zorro's sword were "DZ" and Gonzales gasps "The mark of Darrel Zanuck!"

    I came across your channel as I was looking for wild west wargaming and thought I recognised you from the big screen. Pleased to meet you Ron and we also have something in common...Table top Wargaming.

      My go to rules are Gunfighter Ball for Wild West, though I like Pulp Alley as well.

    I’ve got this rule set coming. Finally fell OUT of love w/GW and their never ending nonsense.
    Been having a great time w/Osprey’s Dracula’s America: Shadows of the West and En Garde! is next on my list to try out.
    Definitely will be looking at some of the other Osprey rulesets as well as time goes on.
    Any suggestions of your favorite skirmish-level Osprey games?
    The theme of Fistful of Kungfu looks like a blast but I haven’t really seen anyone play it, or even review it…
    PS: Thank you for all the time that you put into showcasing the “lesser-known” games. This is something that is desperately needed in the RUclips/Wargaming world.

      Thanks for your comments regarding lesser-known games. As to Fistful of Kung Fu, I have never played nor read it, though a friend of mine was planning on running it. It sounds great though its not really my genre. Apparently, all the street furniture is playable, however, sort of like Marvel Crisis Protocol. En Garde is a remake of Ronin which is a very good skirmish samurai game. Lion Rampant is a larger-scale medieval game that has expanded into many other titles including Dragon Rampant if you are into Sigmar or Old World. I love ZONA ALFA which is a funky almost apocalyptic game into the exclusion zones with a cold war USSR vibe. Black OPs is a fun movie-inspired action and adventure game that is fun, Rogue Stars is a game of sci-fi neer-do-wells struggling to eke out a living on the fringes of space (with one of the best scenario random creators I have ever seen) and of course Frostgrave and Stargrave which are kind of like Mordheim. Campaign games of either fantasy in a frozen city of magic or SCI-FI out in space. All of these are either Osprey or got their start with Osprey and in most cases are in the blue book series.

    I had not come across Boot Hill Miniatures before - they look impressive. I have acquired the En Garde rules but still have to paint some figures (I'm thinking Pirates or Three Musketeers) but find the mechanics of the rules (just like Ronin) don't suit solo play. With that in mind I'm keeping my eye on Too Fat Lardies who are working on a set of rules called With Flashing Blades. Black Scorpion Miniatures do lots of female characters and you might find something suitable in their Tombstone or Female Pirates ranges. Their style suits the swashbuckling feel, but their size is a little large.

      I had heard Flashing Blades mentioned on the Oddcast but didn't realize it was a game they were working on. Used to be a RPG called flashing blades. I might still have it!

    WHAT WAS THE NAME OF THE SPANISH BANDIT THAT ZORRO WAS BASED ON ?

    • @CryHavocWarGaming
      @CryHavocWarGaming  2 года назад +1

      No idea, though in the Banderas movie he is the brother of Juaquin Murrieta who was a real bandit called the Califorino Robin Hood. Related tangent I used to crew a sailboat named for the famous bandito!

    Great AAR! What are your thoughts on how many players you could realistically have in a participation game?

    • @CryHavocWarGaming
      @CryHavocWarGaming  Год назад

      Zorro is rough because of the nature of the genre. En Garde though, I think you could easily do the three musketeers with 4 or 5 players. each player playing his own musketeer with an extra or GM playing the others. you could divide up the enemy as well however
