What I probably like the most about your videos, is that you not only are a very skilled artisan, but you also seem to thoroughly enjoy what your doing. Which turns into amazing results, like this neck.
Laguna. The 1.75 HP is small enough to fit yet works like an industrial beast. The foot break is a nice feature too. I think the precision and weight of the cast iron wheels coupled with the exceptionally stiff frame make this a cit above. Also, the lever release saves blades, and make blade swaps fast.
You my friend are the most detail oriented person on RUclips when it comes to building guitars and I thank you for it. Every time I watch a video I learn a new way to do something.
I cant complain on how many episode were made only on the neck. So full of knowledge that it has given me the confidence to plan re-fretting and quite possibly custom inlay my guitars. Cheers Ben!!! I deeply appreciate the knowledge you pass on in your videos
I love watching luthiers make guitars, it always just feels soothing to see material be formed into these amazing instruments that are nothing like you've ever seen.
Also love that this build IS taking so many episodes. The ability to see you work without time constraints and make decisions based on your vision as an artisan is a wonderful gift!
Ben Crowe: This series will only be a few episodes long Us watching in 2022: Episode 66 - starting the body 😅 Jokes aside this is turning out to be one of the most beautiful instruments yet. Well worth the time and effort 😉
She is doing very very well.. this is what happens when the distractions of the factory are no longer an issue.. she is working part time and from home, so much more fun and relaxed and therefore better videos. B
@@CrimsonCustomGuitars Well, please tell her she is killing it. I mean, anyone can make a one of kind guitar, but good video editors are as rare as hens teeth.
Ahhh lightbulb moment. Flip the blank and change the router bit to opposite bearing location! Despite watching a ridiculous amount of these sort of videos I hAve NEVER heard someone actually say or seen that before. They just say that you change the direction of the blank through the bit (and generally that is what they do) but obviously then you are fighting against the router bit which wants to grab the wood and throw it, as I have also demonstrated :(. Video worth it just for that one nugget of information, let alone all the other work on that gorgeous neck. Many thanks.
Brilliant episode, cannot wait for the next series to start. I have a suggestion, yes another one, for the kit builds... Use unusual hardware, for example put a tunomatic or wrap around bridge on a strat or a Tele and then put a traditional strat trem on a Les Paul or SG. Do a 7 string. You have already done multiscale, so I won't put you though that one again. 👍
Okay, I can not stand how easy you make this appear. That being said, I am always in awe of your artistry and I really appreciate your explanations on what you are doing. You keep giving me ideas for future builds.
Thank you Charles.. I'm trying to make the sort of videos that I would have wanted to see back when I was first starting.. hell, RUclips didn't even exist then.. :( B

Same with Alec Steele the blacksmith. Glad to be of help! :) If you live close by we have short courses, or ask your wife for a birthday or Christmas gift!! I doubt if our editor will be able to get the videos down to 15 minutes for the builds so you are safe. D
I love the long detailed build videos personally. I watch every guitar building video I can find including Big D, Texas Toast, Darrell Braun, guns and guitars etc... You are by far my favorite. You actually remind me of a much refined version of a blacksmith /steel fabricator i worked with at a custom welding shop. Are there any other youtube guitar builders you could recommend? I love what you do Ben, keep it up man you're a true artisan.
Simply beautiful truss rod cover design !! You never cease to amaze !! That burl maple is absolutely gorgeous !! Can't wait to see the finished product !! Thank you for all you do , Ben !!
That truss rod cover's a superb design, visually and functionally. How many times have you taken it off and put it back now? I love the side dots too. And the burl maple, of course! I'm looking forward to the kit build, they're always a bit crazy. I must say you seem much happier in your home workshop away from the pressures of Crimson HQ and without the arbitrary constraints of the timed builds, and I think this is reflected in the builds you've done since moving into smaller premises- they're more innovative, more finely detailed and more interesting to watch, though that doesn't include The Complication- I've watched the complete build three times now and it still fascinates me. Yes! and Yes! My life will not be complete until I make a space theme guitar now. Probably multi scale. I would love to get my hands on one of those new kits.
I have the first prototype and other than the control cavity needing a few more options I could not be happier. Half a day in and I already had a cool guitar that feels 90% done.. certainly not 8 videos, and weeks, on just one part of the build :) When you do get one please send us pics of the finished build for our guitar(s) of the week.. Noooooo, not next weeeeeeeek.... On another topic : Ben, I'm thrilled to know you're putting out multiscale uncut guitar kits. I have a challenge for you. What about a healdless 5 strings multiscale bass with a magnificient table and JB pickups ? I might even buy it at the end of the build...
I've made two guitars by hand using nothing but primitive hand tools , carved the neck with a whittling knife , made the box with a coping saw , glue and clamps , had no plans to work from ,no model , no measurements all from memory . It plays but it makes a better wall art . lol Bought my first guitar a year later and was amazed at how close to scale I made the neck , wish I had the tools and equipment to make it right .
All that work for a damn truss rod cover. This is the kind of shit Gibson and Fender need to be doing to earn the prices they charge. Super awesome idea Ben! Hot damn you make guitar building quite the show, sir.
I hate routers for this type of shaping work, unless you have a really good bit (as I know you have Ben) tear out is a problem. I prefer to use the Triton belt and spindle sander, does it in no time and gives a brilliant finish. I’m happy that you take your time with the videos, they are entertaining and informative. I asked my viewers what they thought about the max 6 videos for the GGBO and in general they thought that 6 was about the right number and I am hoping to try to keep them to 15 mins. I think this, for me, will be good practice. Anyway, enjoying this build cheers Dave
If you can get them out there you should get the powermatic PM1500. Buy once, cry once. That’s a forever saw, and it would probably fit in that footprint.
Those side dots look awesome and the whole project looks to be coming on a treat. On a little side note, you said at the beginning that you want us to see guitar building action, so I timed the action and non action. 46% (+ or -) actual guitar building action. Not too bad and, not that it matters, I really like it and much prefer it when you dub commentary over your guitar building. Keep up the amazing work.
Hey Simon, Thank you.. and thank you. I'm going to see if T and I can get that to a consistent 75% or so. it has a lot to do with how I film it in the first place. I need to train myself to never talk while actually doing stuff.. which is really, really difficult! B
Hi Ben, bandsaws - how about a Record Power BS350S - when I have enough dosh I very feel inclined to get one. I have a pretty old Axminster hobby bandsaw, but it's the blade that counts. About two years ago I started using blades from TuffSaws in south Wales and these have made my old bandsaw into something miles better. Many thanks for your videos, they are superb and over the past few years I've bought some very useful tools from your vintage tool shop, which I would recommend to others who view your videos. Cheers, Marc
I think you can add a small inward bevel at the nut side of the cover. Otherwise if it doesn't pop high enough with strings attached, it will probably be removed with some screwdrivers, pens, guitar picks etc. Sounds scratchy) Besides that it's a very nice looking and elegant decision.
You should consider offering a 7-string variation of that fanned fret kit. IMO, the whole multiscale thing only really shows its advantage with guitars that have "too many" strings. A 6-string works just fine without it, but the 7th string really profits from the longer scale length. Then again, I'm not sure how much sense a kit with too many variations really makes in the end.
I use a spiral cut router bit so I don't have to flip it. Its 2 inches long, so I wouldn't have used it on the plates you did, its for solid bodies. They are expensive bits, but worth it. I believe they are pretty much made specifically for guitar building.
I have one of those band saws and i agree it takes some mucking about to get it right. I would suggest getting the best blades on earth from tuff saws, they make any band saw work properly, i kid you not I've tried them all and they're the only blade to use. Thank me later great vid BTW.

I’m looking at the Record Power BS350 right now, although the 300 would be fine for let’s say bookmatching a top, i feel the gain in height and width on the 350 are worth the small increase in price.
I use a Charnwood B300 bandsaw it has 6'' Cutting Depth Capacity 12'' Cutting Width (Throat) it seems like a good one I also had a jet bandsaw but was to big for my work shop
I love your attention to details. Aaaand this burl maple. Sometimes I have the same problem: I just stare at a piece of wood and wonder how to give it justice. Meanwhile, I'll go back to making my guitar strap buckle out of 2.5 mm thick stainless steel. After four days of shaping and making facets with flat file (without a handle) my hand hurts and my mind wonders: is it art or being dumb? Complexity of your projects lifts me up, although I should probably invest in power tools. Maybe therapy. Definitely I should go back to work, I need to polish it up afterwards
I'd say rather than buying a new bandsaw, tune up what's there. New tires and set the blade guides a bit tighter. In a previous video the bearings weren't even close. I get the table issue, but you can always torque it down. Cheaper than buying new kit. It's a band on a motor after all. That said the others in the comments saying "Laguna" are not wrong, assuming that is even an option for you.
Is the black superglue on the MoP and steel inlays needed? I feel a regular superglue would have less risk of showing up? Or is that the reason? Just to see if you’ve sanded all the excess or not?
I'm really looking forward to a bit more variety, I am really enjoying guitars again.. there were a few years there where it became more of a JOB than fun.. now it is all fun! B
"Maybe with a lens flare"... Grabs popcorn and settles in to see how Ben pulls off a lens flare with marquetry... Thing is, those of us who are familiar with Bens work, know that he will not only pull it off, he'll make a stunning job of it... Those who are new to the Crimson experience are about to have their minds blown completely...
Not to rain on your parade but didn't PRS have a nebula. I bought a work brand band saw that seems to be pretty well thought out. But you can only cut bought a two or three inch depth. Plus it's small enough that it can placed any where and can be brought outside if you want to work outside.is that an air compressor behind your router table?
If you have a tremelo would be awesome to have a magnetically held cover on back. Especially if it's strong through. Just so you know I got some airpods recently and they work great with any device you can pair them with. Even if it's android .
Wonderful as always! I personally think that the "croissant" would "pop" more if it was maple (and ebony circle), especially with the alu' halo/lens flare and once the headstock will be darker (nebula). But yet again, your version may fit better the overall style of the guitar. I guess you'll have a better idea once you tint it. And really looking forward to that new project!
I saw a video this week from the Rosa string works dated the 16 January . He is just started using a band saw with a special fitting to cut exact very thin slices of wood for making binding , it might be of interest to you , It’s not a DIY thing it’s a professional tool ,

Is the black superglue on the MoP and steel inlays needed? I feel a regular superglue would have less risk of showing up? Or is that the reason? Just to see if you’ve sanded all the excess or not?
Yay! More builds.
Except I couldn't quite figure it out.. I am so so sorry 😞 B
Yeah, my benchtop bandsaw has the same table fastening system. It's impossible to get properly square.
Hello Ben! Have you built any multiscale 7 or 8 string guitars? A Crimson custom guitar is on my bucket list.
Are u gonna put the nut on top of the headstock veneer? 🤔
Man that router table footage was so satisfying to watch
Thank you.. having such sublime wood to film really helps! B
Ben - do you have a preferred brand of router cutter?
stunning magnetic truss rod cover, thank you for sharing with us
Glad you like it, thanks for watching. B
He is just started using a band saw with a special fitting to cut exact very thin slices of wood for making binding , it might be of interest to you , It’s not a DIY thing it’s a professional tool ,
So, Ben, my friend (I hope that's not being over familiar), would you consider doing semi-acoustic and electric siblings for this beautiful creation?
