MJ - just to let you know, if you go further down on Options, and below "Recheck Document," you will see that there is a Window called, "Exceptions for this document" and then it will list the name of your document. You can note that both small windows have been check-marked telling Word to "HIDE SPELLING ERRORS" and "HIDE GRAMMAR ERRORS". Un-check these 1 boxes and viola!

I've figured out that this happens when you insert an image into the document. It doesn't recognize the image as a "language" so it stops spell-checking from that point forward as a result. This was driving me INSANE until I found your video. THANKS!!

Hi. In my case, that box is already unchecked and the language proof works, but only when I open the proofing window. On the text visualization, it does not underline the errors. Any idea how I get it to underline?

For anyone who is still having problems, try going to File -> Options ->Language and then see is it spell check instaled for your language. If it isn't you will have a link on which you can install it and instructions how to do it.

Does not work on my 2007. I have a paragraph with numerous errors and Spell/Grammar Check passes them by without any indication of error. Followed the above instructions,chowever ; 1) there is no File tab on the Home bar in my 2007, 2) the only Command options under "File" are File Locations and File Confirm Conversions, 3) even when you find Proofing under All Commands it is simply the same Spell/Grammar Check option that didn't catch the errors the first time and it still doesn't catch them. Bottom line, no matter what I do I cannot perform Spell/Grammar Check on a document full of errors - I have to do this "manually".

all my setting are correct, and it still does not work. I have been typing for 12 hours on a project, the first10 spell check worked great, but not the last two. I tried cutting and pasting into a new document, but it still does not work. Yet, if I begin a new document spell check will work. My document is over 20,000 words, I cannot just retype it.
