Sometimes the rainy days are great. Time to think about and create a new tool for your arsenal. And the bonus package is that it fits in a backpack. Bravo man!! Too bad I didn't really think about portability when I built mine. 🤬 So now I'll just have to build a smaller unit. Like I need another project. Love the how to videos just as much as the regular adventures!! Keep up the great work Mr. Wizard!😎👍🍺🐾⛏🍀🍀🐾💰💰✔🇺🇸

Just got back from up there! Found my black sand! It got washed 3 miles down the beach and made a nice 8" tigerstripe layer then stones, 8" of blond, and another 4" layer then stones. Can't get there except by trudging down the beach 3 miles, cause the creek is in the way from a direct route! Found I got scammed out of $20 for my light for finding Yooperlites. Did bag a chunk of fish net with floats and weights. Bagged about 3 lbs of lead from it. Glad it's out of the water so it can't kill fish or divers! Found a few closer spots with black sand, but test pans turned up nothing (though the waves made it hard to pan properly). It was drizzle on the way up, but cleared up beautiful on the road to Grand Maris. Blueberries were ripe! Picked a 14" Garrett pan full before heading home! Wild blueberry pancakes tomorrow!
Had a close call with lightning! Was set up when a severe storm rolled in. I flattened the solar panels and did a cleanout and filled all the buckets to prevent them from blowing. Got to the car with the first few drops. Had a bolt hit the beach in front of the car which was about 75' from where I was mining! Couldn't find the fulgurite afterward. Just glad it didn't hit the battery or solar panels!

I use the rubber ribbings and multiple gold metallic door strips "/\" for ripples in settling out the gold in my handmade 2 ft wide x 6 foot long aluminum sluice. If I laid a removable metal or plastic mesh over this, it would create maximum tubulence settling out the gold (and black sand) for sure.
My sluice looks like 2 - wood closet dowels running along the sides of the sluice - like a Red Cross 2-person stick-and-blanket cot carry. The dowels allow any angle of sluicing desired - with proper propping. Definitely heavier, but a much more industrial capacity processor than a lighter and smaller aluminum sluice trough.
Also, almost a PIA to do - as a heavy weight installation. I have a series of overhead arms along the sluice length. They hold a series of high-power magnets across the width and down the length of the sluice wash. With proper water flow of the sluice wash, this constantly lifts up the black (iron) sand back up into the upper sluice wash waters, allowing the black sand to be continually washed away, while the gold settles in the ripples.
Dave Turin and his big industrial processor machine is using metal mesh, with plastic indoor-outdoor carpet turf and the Dutch ripple barrier (sic?) of a square "C" shape that creates a swirling under-current to the overflow over the edge, catching his gold underneath that lip. That might be the way to go with cutting square/hollow (extruded) aluminum rods apart and then screwing them into the sluice - in association with the removable metal meshing and ribbing.

Oh I really like those mods! I was thinking that you could just run the sand with that angled backwards the entire time as the water was way up over the lip and forcing the sand backwards like a dream mat does.
At the beginning of your vid, the way that your expanded mesh was sitting made it look like you had bent part of it down where it would catch your rocks and pebbles from sliding right off, thereby washing them longer. I think that might be nice at the beach where the pebbles are not too big.
Love it! Thanks for the tips, and for explaining why! I like hearing the thought process, it is super helpful!

I would run it with that additional plate backwards so you don't get that build up of sand on the bottom tray, that way you can be sure you're not going to get a system clog and it'll stay running smoothly 24/7.
Might help the flow stay smoother too as it won't have such a high drop from the top tray, should help with laminar flow of the water 😉

Ps, in a closed system like that do you add a few drops of jet dry to help break tension and sink the fine gold

Looking in good. i like the change to the hearder for sure. Think i might give it a try. Maybe wrong but id think in the hi-banker, the saw tooth first and vdr mat last. At the top of the hi banker you get more water agitation due to the water falling onto the mat. That would help clear the black sand while driven the gold to the bottom. The vdr at the bottom becuase i belive it requires water flow to activate it. Thoughts? Im sure you already know but before you start runnimg your material, turn on water and brush your box to get all the air bubles of the mats. Keep up the great work.

Great idea on your beach sluice. Based on your adventures gold prospecting and mining.....I'm starting to miss Wisconsin......well....I don't think I could deal with that white stuff any longer though. Lots of gold here in AZ to find.

  • @richardbeee

In fan tess able! What a set-up. Was wondering Jason if there was a way to keep that top mat off by it's self? Then you could just pull it to see how you're doing. Dump your bottom mat in a bucket for another rainy day at the "office"🙂 Then you would only have that small mat to pan and check in the field. Looked to me like 70% or more of your gold was captured up top in the first few riffles where it should be. Thought of you the other day. Found an old PBR can that was still painted on one side (was not exposed to the sun) and it was opened with a church key. I remember my dad opening a can with one of those.....barely! Great job! See you next week.

I have also been experimenting to find the best beach mining setup. The Gold Cube is just too bulky as you say. But I have been looking at how they work and considering a way to emulate that.
I have recently been up to the beach with my Dream Mat Micro sluice box. Boy it was hard to haul all my gear out to the beach. I used a 50 lb car battery. Ouch!! The Dream Mat worked well but still a bit slow for my liking. In 8 hours I processed about 12 gallons of sand through it. (Hope to have that video done later today).
I am considering 4x the surface area in my sluice for the next trip. And a lithium battery.

    Love your channel !
Just a couple of questions :
Why not an amphibious assault instead of a ground attack ?
Load up the boat and go , conditions permitting , of course .
You can carry more gear , and save your legs and back for digging and feeding the sluice .
Does the Michigan DNR expressly forbid this ?
If not , I believe it is a viable option , assuming Superior does not beat you up worse than a 5,000 mile hike .
