let's see if i can summerize the point of the guard to see if i got it correctly: The guard are practically cannon fodder, ......in the universe of 40K, where all sorts of monstrosity imaginable, natural and unnatural coalice at the same time in a battlefield, place them anywhere else, and then you see the emperor working through them.

The Guardsmen are some of the bravest, in my opinion, people in the Imperium. They are normal humans asked to stand and fight the same battles as the Astartes, who know no fear.
True very true and also, if one can literally feel NO fear, can one truly have courage?
Oh the Astartes can feel fear. Strip one of his armour and equipment and strap him to one of Fabius Bile's operation tables and I can guarantee that he'll feel fear.
There's the Eldar, they KNOW how screwed they are if they die.

if I recall correctly, I think I heard somewhere that the basic armor they get is the equivalent of mall cop armor, so yea.... takes guts to rush a heavy bolter or a multilaser in just that

@@mrpizzacat8273 exactly start out fighting either Chaos Cultists or GeneStealers on a planet as a white shield drawn up as the rest of the Guardsmen where drafted for a war zone and then a Rebellion happens and the White Shields have to come to try and put it down. The. After that war you are given your full Guardsmen rank and head to fight either Orks or Tyranids using tanks and such. Then as a Veteran he you go face some Chaos Deamons or other horrors. Honestly being drafted by the Inquisition at the end would be great to lead into a 2nd game as a Imperial agent.
Make it a darksouls game too. Kriger cursed by Nurgle to revive and be “corrupted” despite his faith
How they haven't yet done a game with the same heaviness of Battlefield 1 I have no idea. It would be an amazing opportunity to get better advertisement of the Guard and they could commission a Band Of Brothers/Pacific style show or even a Gaunts Ghosts show done in a similar style to Sharpe.

Bravest men in the whole damn setting, and they make for a relatable POV. We all fantasize about being Astartes, or maybe Inquisitors, but in truth? We’d probably all be conscripts.
Conscripts may seem like useless fodder for the Imperial Guard, but one must remember that these men and women will survive battles and wars and become into veterans who train their more younger compatriots, and later become Heroes of the Imperium of their deeds are remembered and acknowledged by many. It is true that many will die, but so long as one of them survives the Spirit of the Imperium will live through them.

Just remember
Astartes, Mechanicum, a Saint, The Inquisition all fled.
While the GAURD stood, all while the planet cracked, they never broke.
They didn't flee they returned to orbit after the war was lost and 10's of millions of Cadians did as well. However there was not enough transports or time for all the 895 million Guardsmen on Cadia. But they did make the most heroic stand possible knowing their life was already gone.
There is a time for standing when you can make a difference, and a time to withdrawl to be more effetive down the line. Those left on Cadia had no line of withdrawl, standing to fight was their only option.
That said. In no way does that subtract from the heroism on that day.
The planet broke, before the Guard did.

When I first started playing 40k, I was in the army. Light infantry machinegunner. I always felt an affinity towards the guard because of that, and they will always be my favorite army. Always nice to see them get their turn in the light!

This is why I adore the Guard, and the Empire in Fantasy. They're just regular folk doing their best in settings that are WILDLY stacked against them, and doing it surprisingly bloody well at that. I can't identify with an 8' tall brainwashed superhuman, but I can identify (Or pretend to) with a guardsman holding his ground against unspeakable horrors for the sake of his mates and his people.
I always get the feeling with each biscuit that He is crafting "The Baldyverse" of Lore
I can almost see His Characters journeying towards each other is a Greater Narrative Event

At least our protagonist was from a fortress world, just imagine being on a agri world and summoned to your local provincial capital only to be mustered up, being a hive world menial and just redirected onto a transport ship one day without warning, or a civilized worlder having a night at the local pub and waking up in a processing center. How you could just be grabbed or ordered one day, gathered up to fight enemies you didn’t know existed in a imperial guard you only vaguely were aware existed.
In a fight between Star Wars Storm Troopers and a batch of Imperial Guard, I’d have my money on the guardsmen to win, to not break and run, and to carry the day.
It hasn't been long but my good in this heat is just fantastic to chill and listen to you spin yet another marvellous tale. They you Baldermort and Mrs B. Amazing as ever.
Special forces and flashy units get the movies and video games made about them, but your sverage infantry dog-soldier is what wins wars. Jets, tanks, navy SEALs, artillery, all of it is only there to assist infantry. Without regular infantry none of the rest matters.

The Steel Legion, Catachan Jungle-Bois, and Cadian Shock Troops are my favorites along with the Death Korps of Krieg.
It’s great if you run Cadian you can actually bring them, they’re more expensive but they do a great job nonetheless, from screening the enemy to laying down ranks of organised fire, very worth bringing but that’s just my 2p on the matter
You know this entire week I have been seeing videos showing love for the guard and I have to say I've owed them so much more respect over the years. Going to have to make them one of my preferred forces

From every hundred men you take to battle, ten shouldn't even be there, eighty are fodder to spent enemy arrows, nine are good fighting men, they will make war and we are lucky to have them, but one, one, is the warrior, and he, will bring all of them back...
Human, is pretty badass as it goes... we have made it this far in our history just by what we have, normal baseline mouth breathing humans...
Bravery is not the absences of fear, that is madness, but rather Bravery is the presence to act and stay collected in the face of danger... I know I have nothing but respect for all my brothers and sisters in uniform past, and present, And I worry for those yet to be sent into harms way.

a common joke in the astra militarum, but just because is a joke does not mean it can't happen.
still is difficult to think that the astra militarus is better than any military we have,likely will never be exemplified, most writers are not also military elite.
Also damn, i felt the pride of the emperor listening to that story, rest well fallen, you are by the emperor now, giving a lasbolt to the arse of a daemon in the warp in His army.
The Whiteshields, where you become one of two things.
1. A corpse.
2. A man.
When the two meter tall genetically engineered supersoldier gets split in half by a BUG, and all you have is a flashlight and a helmet with a white stripe on it.
The warmth of your lasguns overheated barrel and *The Emperors* own hand upon my shoulder is all that is required to repel the darkness.
The men and women of the imperial guard the reason the imperium still stands after 10,000 years
I remember the original whiteshields from the 1st edition rules published in white dwarf. Trainees that hadn't been attached to any particular regiment yet, I used to field a unit of them back in the 80s.
I also used to field a much more useful unit of trainee commissars too...

There's a reason why the Wall of Conscripts is a valid strat
The Flashlight Boys actually are really damn effective, it just so happens that everything in Imperial space that they were so very effective against has been wiped out. Everything that remains or gains a foothold despite the Guard is reasonable to consider an Astartes-grade threat.
Boldermort could easily write propaganda for the Imperium itself. Screw xenos and traitors, HUMANITY FOR LIFE!

A timely vid, spent the last week contemplating what to do with the Baneblade kit i bought.... do i loot it into Orky o.t.t. madness like i do with everything, but it's such a lovely kit as is, so i had pretty mutch decided to do some guard ( wallet not happy ) and then this vid turns up to cement that decision. Happily i dug out some 20 + yo guard minnies an one of the old luitenents will make an excellent tank comander. 🙂

If Leman Russ has faith in the Whiteshields after having them under his command then I have faith in them too. Inexperience can make for horrible battlefield situations but it has its own merits too. Older experienced soldiers know the horrors of war and will do their best to find cover while those young with no experience will charge into the thick of things if ordered to. A real world example is The Normandy Landings on June 6th of 44, the first ones to hit the beaches were mostly 18-20 years old and the landings were their first taste of combat.

When you consider that everything in the 40k vers is turned up to 11 and in the case of mind rending terror on the battlefield it's up to 20 the fact that baseline humans can even be deployed is testament to their grit and determination. Hell the Necrons literally fought GODS and beat them. The Nids strip world's to their bedrock and even consume their core and atmosphere. Yet against these threats that would annihilate any other setting the baseline humans of the guard stand.
Guardsmen and their entire variety of regiments are often overlooked in a "haha fire a flashlight and be cannon fodder" type of way but i always thought most PDF forces from 40k would humiliate our current elite divisions severely.
People talk about flashlights all the time, but I like to look at it another way. Sure, 10 lasguns might hurt a Space Marine or Tyranid Warrior, but you don't need to, because here comes a Heavy Weapons Specialist with a Plasma Gun to burn a hole through it.
100 lasguns may severely damage a tank, but you don't need to, because there's a few guys in cover behind the tank with Meltaguns AND there's a Lascannon emplacement down the road.
Lasguns won't do much to something like a Land Raider or Daemon Engine beyond damaging vision ports or fouling up external weapons, but you don't need to worry, because here comes a group of Leman Russ Annihilators to tear that fucker a new one.
The Lasgun is the foundation upon which the Guard builds their firepower.
