Tip: if your windshield wipers won't turn off. (Everybody may already know this...). If you park outside in the sun, in a hot location (I park outside in Southern California) gases given off by overheated upholstery gets into the box above the rear view mirror and condense on the windscreen, leaving a haze. The software tries to clean the windshield with the wipers. After about 18 months, my Model Y started having problems driving directing into the sun in the late afternoon. At three years the wipers never turned off when I was driving FSD. I took it in, Tesla service cleaned the glass. (Not owner accessible as far as I know). Problem solved. If your wipers turn on for no apparent reason, shine a flashlight on that area from the outside and look for a hazy film. I'm really looking forward to this update. I'm still over the moon with 12.5.4.
I am not sure how they improved camera cleaning with the FSD v13 software update? I imagine you need a physical water jet or something physical to clean the camera.
@@lamgineer They probably just made the software more aware to know the difference between something on the wind screen and the haze. At some point it'll be able to alert drivers that if the windshield is clear they need to take it in to have the inside cleaned. I would really like to be able to get in there and clean it myself. The next time this happens I'll probably be on a long trip.
I think Tesla makes these announcements when they are about to roll it out to employees. They know this is the point where the information will get leaked and may be incorrect. So they make the announcement. (Which is a great sign of Tesla communicating! FSD 12.5.x is still apparently unknown to everyone including most non FSD Tesla drivers.) This wider employee beta release probably increases the data by two orders of magnitude revealing edge case problems that result in some 'promised' features being left out of the general release. It all seems pretty healthy to me. ( I'm driving 12.5.4 and it seems far less aware of emergency vehicles than earlier versions. 10 steps forward 1 step back. )
The most pressing issue I have with FSD is actually it's inability to read/interpret signs. I'm not sure why; maybe it's because it's fine tuned for signage in the USA, particularly in California, but here in Canada it often mistakes route numbers for speed limits. We also have school zones signs where reduced speed limits are in effect only during school hours and FSD does not handle these situations properly. I can see the danger in having FSD make decisions based on information it reads because people could inadvertantly or deliberatly manipulate FSD with text whether it's a fake sign or writing on someone's tshirt. I don't know how this is solved but I can't use FSD in so many residential areas since it's usually going way too slow through the school zones when school hours are not in effect. Another example is the route number, We have a route here named route 20. The speed limit on route 20 is 80km/h but when tesla sees the route 20 sign it begins breaking immediately from 80 to 20!
You can override FSD speed with pedal for now. Then speed seems to adjust shortly after, probably reverts to map data speed. It is dangerous when it misread a speed limit and abruptly slows, I had this happen frequently with Wyoming dynamically changeable signs. Under speed control, it is better to set to maintain speed and adjust speed when necessary with steering wheel control.

Can tesla have self cleaning camera lenses? because if the car is to be self driving then it should have some mechanism for the cameras to be cleaned or rotated ao the car can drive itseld at any time under any whether condition.
Won't wireless charging require positioning the charger in the proper location for efficiency in a garage or on a driveway? Also close to contact should improve efficiency, so raising the charger until it almost or does contact the bottom of a car should be better...inflatable cushion that raises once the car is in the best position?
@@iandavies4853 I didn't say the task was difficult. I was trying to point out that the wireless charger shown by Tesla lays thin on the ground and if it had an inflatable cushion under it; then the charger would be more efficient. It would also be more efficient if the car automatically parks over the charger in the perfect spot for efficiency, left/right, forward/back after the first time the charger is installed in the garage or driveway.
Just to slightly correct Jeff on Tesla’s inference chip, Elon didn’t qualify his comment that Tesla couldn’t buy a better inference chip than HW3 from anyone on the market. Not just for the money. James Douma observed that for running Tesla’s neural networks, HW3 is actually faster than anything Nvidia makes and consumes far less power. The fact that Nvidia would have charged several times what Tesla is spending for HW3 and that reliance on Nvidia would slow down Tesla’s pace of innovation is just the icing on the cake. People forget that Nvidia’s silicon is a flexible solution but GPU’s suffer from impaired performance when running NNs, whereas Tesla’s inference chipsets are tailor made ASICs designed for running Tesla’s NN. Conversely, They wouldn’t be very good in any other application.
Elon said a long long time ago that the power consumption of an Nvidia inference card option would be way too high. That’s probably the reason they went their own way.
I appreciate the acknowledgment by Tesla that AI3 city driving is inferior to AI4 city driving. This new policy of progress and release transparency should encourage AI3 owners. Elon admitted AI4 would likely be twice as safe as AI3. It’s almost a certainty that the robotaxi network will launch with AI4 cars exclusively. If we actually continue the exponential safety improvement the difference in time to safer than a human might be insignificant.
If the HW-3 uses Intel's older, less capabile processor compared to the AMD processor, like my first 2023 Tesla Model Y, then system response times will most likely hit the borderline of acceptable performance and come up short in certain corner cases. I'm anticipating integrated Starlink connected mobile lounge vehicles to become the new norm and really want at least one to keep in touch with my future multi-generational Tesla connected family 😊
Tesla is going to have to find a way to differentiate there cars from each other. If there are 4 white model 3's waiting at a summons location or pickup location people could get confused. Honestly numbers seem not fun, I'd like to see outside music or the owners favorite song being played. With a combination of lights flashing....whatever the owner wants. 😁
It has been interesting with the trial fsd sent out 10/10 to learn how intuitive and clever our minds are compared to advanced AI tech. In urban areas FSD is not strategic in getting over and often is prevented by human nature: folks don't want you to slowly cut them off and the car fails to change lanes in time. As they improve AI they may add a strategy layer and a "understanding human nature" layer.
I'm looking forward to end to end native AI4. Given that the high resolution cameras have thus far been downconverted for the AI3 emulation, I'm hoping for the FSD visualization to be more accurate. Currently, it has little errors with respect to what it thinks it sees. By example, at a complex lighted intersection, not all the lights being displayed are accurate. Speed limits printed on the road are not seen since it seems to think all speed limits are represented by signs. I want the lane change minimization to be a setting that does not revert on every drive. Why? In my state the highway patrol looks for frequent lane changes as a sign of speed violators and FSD loves to change lanes. I would prefer to not be attractive to them. Hopefully, parking sensitivity will be better with the higher resolution. When the ultrasonics went away my garage parking got considerably more problematic. All of my margins are less than a foot, and the cameras thus far are not good at that.
Holy crap Hans and all! Your casual, no big deal, attitude about the "millions of HW3 cars" NOT being capable of FSD is shockingly bad. It is a huge deal. And it isn't just the computer, it is also the cameras. Per this very update they are officially shifting to the higher capabilities of the hw4 cameras as the training standard. FSD on HW3 simply ain't happening. It is no longer a matter of "compression" to make it work on HW3. ADAS on HW3 may get better but they aren't going to be robotaxis without a full retrofit. I know Elon casually threw out that they would upgrade HW3 cars for people who bought FSD but that was CYA. They are trying to avoid more lawsuits. They don't want to upgrade HW3 cars. Which is why they have been and continue to offer free FSD transfers. They want people who purchased FSD to transfer it to new cars and then they will wash their hands of the existing fleet of HW3 cars. UNLESS there is a business case to upgrade some of them but I believe there isn't. I believe they will focus on growing the existing fleet and rolling out the Cybercab. I'm also still not convinced that HW4 is sufficient for L4 autonomy considering the differences in hardware between the existing fleet and the Cybercab (front bumper camera, integrated automatic doors, AI5 computer...). But that remains to be seen. Even if Tesla has data showing less accidents with FSD than humans, that doesn't automatically translate to turning on a driverless taxi service. There are still worst case scenarios that have to be considered.
Your being overly pessimistic and antagonistic. Tesla will upgrade as needed (but that's not certain yet -- you have no idea how impactful compression can be just from improved pruning, weighting, and rewarding). It's entirely possible that HW3 will be more than enough once they figure out how to shrink the full autonomy model. But the fastest way to get is to reach full autonomy on a set of cars at least. I bought FSD outright and Im very supportive of the moves Tesla is making.
I remember when we moved from waterfall development to go and extreme programming or devil start programming. Talking about feature complete for AI system I’m not sure that translate very well. AI system is not programmed it is drained and I hope is a train it and it will catch Corona cases some of them might sell some of them deliberately by presenting training so recognise recognise those are the features in the future I’m just a bit nervous about talking about feature complete in these sort of AI systems.
Releasing ASS everywhere is so smart. It will force regulators to recognize the capabilities of the system and create public demand pressure for FSD approvals.
We may be on the back burner for some time. Eye-on-the-prize. IMO, as a manager building LLM models in big tech, I think they should strictly focus on achieving full autonomy -- that's the goal. The incremental upgrades to legacy cars is a dead end and just slowing progress for everyone -- including HW3 users. I bought HW3 outright and I wish they would just focus on full autonomy rather than trying to appease us in the short term.
Please stop referring to inventions as deliveries 📦 like Tesla takes these inventions of the shelf! Just stop it! Celebrate each of Tesla’s inventions with appropriate respect!
Come on guys, you post a few videos literally every day with these huge headlines when not much has really changed. I’ve owned a tesla for over 5 years. Very happy with it and I love the company and what they are doing. FSD for me (been using it since early beta after OG testers) was horrible until this year. FSD 12.5 has literally been a major downgrade on my 2019 Model S Raven from the last version 11. It drives way under the speed limit or what I have it set to, is extremely jerky from past releases, has constant micro phantom braking, and is very timid and unsure what it is doing. Besides that, I have to nudge the steering wheel literally every 10 seconds. Not using FSD on this version is often less stressful. I loved the major updates in the last 6-12 months, but this crappy FSD has been out too long without Tesla actually making it work as good as it used to, nonetheless better. As a customer, I don’t feel FSD recently is on a good track. If you asked me 6 months ago I thought it was. Tesla needs massive actual improvements every month (not just BS they tweet about) over the next year in order to even remotely have FSD move towards actual autonomy. Robotaxi is still years away unless they can actually have it work. I don’t buy the 5x or 10x or whatever they discuss distance between disengagements. I disengage a lot more than they act like it works without disengagements. Also FSD has for the last 2 years on my commute home from work, on every version ever made, tries to turn into a weigh station turn off on a small highway while driving 70 MPH where there is literally a closed fence 100’ down from where it merges right. If I was suicidal, I would let it do its thing and crash through a metal locked fence. I’ve never understood why it always tries this as it’s a single lane highway and the weigh station entrance is more like an exit as far as highway markings and painted lines are concerned.
Not so clear whether current Tesla technical approach for FSD will get across the finish line. It's possible that radical new AI approach plus additional sensors needed to get across autonomous goal line. Elon great at pivoting, but running out of time with investors and with the increasingly competitive landscape. Important for Tesla to launch some sort ride service soon, just to remain credible.
Maybe, but the path they are one is the best proven one based on other use-cases (like music, image, and video generation). There is a lot of juice left from simply scaling up the model. Tesla has just been very, very slow to scale up their foundation model since they've have such huge datasets and theyve been trying to quantize (compress) the models so much for HW3. The reason Elon has been saying they are not "compute constrained" -- IMO -- is because they've been focusing on HW3. IE: they've been focusing on pruning the model (which is the right thing in the long run) but they need to scale up the model and nail FSD autonomy BEFORE they can scale it back. The competitors will be facing the same constraints though (huge data set, etc) but Tesla is way ahead in terms of the end-to-end approach.
No, you (and me too) bought hardware that is second class. But they will upgrade it (if needed). That's the best resolution you could reasonably expect.
Upgrade to an AI4 vehicle when AI5 is released and those with money to burn dump their AI4 models for AI5. This has been a great principle for PC's and for cellphones. Soon it will begin to work for Teslas and FSD.
Just saw a sh9rt video of a Tesla hitting a deer at full highway speed. I am a Tesla stock holder and not here to bash but would sure like to know why a Tesla cant see a deer walking with traffic not crossing a road suddenly but walking in the lane. This to me is very disturbing . That could easly had been a human . The car didn't even know it had hit something. Would just like to know why this Tesla is apparently overdriving its cameras in the first place.
I saw that vid too. The visibility at night and at speed was too much for FSD. I know this because I have literally hundreds of deer around my house (daily sightings) and I use FSD around them everyday. FSD sees deer and slows for them when they are on the road or looking like they want to cross. That said, the deer in my area are "city deer" -- they're very road smart they never run across the road. The very very slowly cross, even when cars are approaching. FSD always yields to them.
@bnjiodyn So why does FSD allow to out speed it's capabilities? Me personally when I'm at night in areas that have deer I slow down below the limit unlike 95% of other drivers who insist on driving as fast as they THINK they can get away with. Hence they end up on the side of the road scratching thier head wondering how this could happen to them. 😩
Those of us who paid a lot of money for HW3 FSD, based on repeated promises from Musk are feeling ripped off. The promises started to go off the rails when Musk said it was "not economically feasible" to upgrade our cars to HW4. It was not economically feasible for him to keep his promise to us, but somehow it was economically feasible for him to sell large amounts of his Tesla stock to buy Twitter (something that he promised not to do). However, that is not the worst of it... I bought Tesla stock and bought a Tesla because Musk told us he was all-in on renewable energy. He betrayed us when he backed down and minimised environmental concerns to suck up to Trump. I do not trust Musk any more. I am tired of being lied to.
completely legit complaints, Elon did however say on the last earnings call that if they can't get FSD working unsupervised on HW3, they'll upgrade the system FOC. I expect that would be away off though, they would exhaust their efforts to squeeze FSD into HW3 before then, but if they had to replace the FSD computer, it would be with a HW5 or beyond system. Also, while Musk appears to be back-tracking on lots of environmental concerns, Tesla as a whole is still working to masterplan v3 and I don't expect that to change.
I honestly understand why you feel ripped off. But at the latest earnings call Musk literally said that if it turns out that FSD is not possible with HW3, they will upgrade HW3 cars for free. I don't know where you heared that "not economically feasible" BS.
You seem to have gone off the rails. Elon has said in recent weeks that if it becomes a problem for HW3 to run FSD Tesla will provide a free upgrade to HW 4. They’re just doing HW4 rollout first.
HW3 people, why continue to complain? Elon promised Tesla they will upgrade our hardware as needed. Have some patience and be reasonable. I also bought FSD outright on HW3 on a new 2022 MY-LR. I cant wait to have full autonomy too. But Tesla isn't magical. They are doing the right things on all fronts.
I heard Elon say that those people that purchased FSD with their HW3 car would get a free upgrade. How about most of us that did not buy FSD... because it wasn't working yet?
The current AI3 fsd is just as cringe as 12.3.6 was. It can make horrifying mistakes, and this is stressful. So until it stops _occasionally_ behaving VErY vERY BADLY...., I am not optimistic about autonomy / robotaxi before 2026.
Test drove cybertruck. Respect the engineering but Not overwhelmed. Noisier than I expected, doesn’t feel like a ‘solid’ build. R1S was a better test drive imho. Tried FSD yesterday, first time in awhile. Pretty good!!! But not supporting the 100/m to feed musk politics.

The AI team is letting you know that with constraints removed the accelerated training system development is having major positive impacts on modeling, training, scaling, data throughput, and energy consumption.
For FSD to drive through New York City and take you to an airport without any interruptions, I don’t think it’s anywhere near ready

Also close to contact should improve efficiency, so raising the charger
until it almost or does contact the bottom of a car should be better...inflatable cushion that raises once the car is in the best position?
Almost as difficult as landing 20-story building on chopsticks?
Even girls can reverse park - with a trailer, even with B-double two trailers.
@@iandavies4853 I didn't say the task was difficult. I was trying to point out that the wireless charger shown by Tesla lays thin on the ground and if it had an inflatable cushion
under it; then the charger would be more efficient. It would also be more efficient if the car automatically parks over the charger in the perfect spot for efficiency, left/right, forward/back after the first time the charger is installed in the garage or driveway.
Tesla is winning.
Awesome News, but i miss “always identify and follow the speed”
If the HW-3 uses Intel's older, less capabile processor compared to the AMD processor, like my first 2023 Tesla Model Y, then system response times will most likely hit the borderline of acceptable performance and come up short in certain corner cases. I'm anticipating integrated Starlink connected mobile lounge vehicles to become the new norm and really want at least one to keep in touch with my future multi-generational Tesla connected family 😊
Shifts to other sectors just happened huge like real estate and McDonald's ❤❤
Tesla is going to have to find a way to differentiate there cars from each other. If there are 4 white model 3's waiting at a summons location or pickup location people could get confused. Honestly numbers seem not fun, I'd like to see outside music or the owners favorite song being played. With a combination of lights flashing....whatever the owner wants. 😁
I imagine the FSD revenue recognition outside of US right now is 0%. If they release ASS to the world, this should have Q4 financial impact.
Imagine watching some nerdy sports game while your car is driving off a cliff LOL
It has happened…
I wonder how FSD works on stopping at an intersection with ice on the road?
Baller marketing move to release Smart Summon in Europe and China🥰
Please explain inference better
AI system is not programmed it is drained and I hope is a train it and it will catch Corona cases some of them might sell some of them deliberately by presenting training so recognise recognise those are the features in the future I’m just a bit nervous about talking about feature complete in these sort of AI systems.
when will it toot the horn?
My sense is that real results sorely needed before Elon can truly toot the horn 🥳
After Full Sudden Death (FSD) it will then toot the horn for you…😅
Releasing ASS everywhere is so smart. It will force regulators to recognize the capabilities of the system and create public demand pressure for FSD approvals.
Do you think HW3 will see V13 before lets say March 2025? (I have a road trip to Florida then and would love to have it :p)
Do you think bringing China online will require exponential exponential increase in compute requirements?
I wonder how they define "necessary interventions"
HW4 is much better FSD than HW3….i have both.

Tesla Drop...anything but price per share.
As an AI3 user, I feel like a second class citizen of the Tesla world...
So buy GM and feel complete again.
Remember when HW4 didn’t get updates, only HW3?
No, you (and me too) bought hardware that is second class. But they will upgrade it (if needed). That's the best resolution you could reasonably expect.
@ or the software just works.
That’s the best solution.
Upgrade to an AI4 vehicle when AI5 is released and those with money to burn dump their AI4 models for AI5. This has been a great principle for PC's and for cellphones. Soon it will begin to work for Teslas and FSD.
Can’t expect an old model to have all the newest features. Otherwise progress will not be made.
Where the F is my GD passenger profiles? How F'ing difficult can that be?
@bnjiodyn
So why does FSD allow to out speed it's capabilities?
I was with you until you had to bring Trump into it. Stop bringing politics into business. Tesla will succeed without Trump any day.
@RandomGuyOnRUclips601 musk did say that a while back, he's since changed his mind.
