The fact that the video's aspect ratio is 4:3 and the quality only can go up to 480p make this video feel more authentic because if Doctor Who still went on during the Wilderness Years, the TV quality would have been like that in the late '90 and early 2000s! A great, albeit unintended touch Stuart!
I am still disappointed that we didn't get something like this for the Doctor Who movie. Just think how many more episodes we could have gotten if this was Paul McGann's version of the Doctor Who movie. Shame he only got a half assed story that is largely forgotten and not well received. McGann deserved better for the on screen product. If Eccleston stuck around, he easily would have been a top 5 doctor. Same with McGann if he was given a proper series.
God Bless you for this video. As a small child I first encountered Doctor Who on SciFi channel ("Are you My Mummy?") and I went to RUclips looking up Doctor Who stuff and this was what I found. While it's never been in the forefront of my nerdy interest, this amazing fan edit always stuck with me. So glad I could find it when so many FMVs from this era are lost!
***** I loved this part: "You're a Time Lord?! Get away from me!" ~backs away~ ~The Doctor is exasperated~ "Look on the bright side, at least I'm not a Dalek!"
howdareyou66 I agree Moffat pretty much screwed up the 50th/NotD, but it did have it's moments. He seriously needs to get his head out of his ass sometimes though, there are so many plot holes and open endings!
I overlaid the image of a Dalek onto the clip of 'Arc Of Inifinity' to cover over Peter Davison, who is actually running for cover at the end of the corridor. It's only a static photo of a Dalek, which I moved frame-by-frame in adobe photoshop to give the illusion it is gliding out of view.
I will say that I still kind of prefer this than what we actually got in The Day of the Doctor. It feels more like a War to me & I kind of like the simplicity of The 8th Doctor losing his life to a simple Dalek blast
I firmly agree. Check out my 8th Doctor stopmotion series on my channel. It’s more akin to this, the way I learned of the time war as a kid was thru this video lol
I read a comment from a fan not long ago that the Time War is a story that should never be told because it would never live up to anyone's expectations. I think there's truth to that. However, what I have seen here is TRULY inspiring. You excel in your form of expression, and inasmuch as I excel in mine, I hope to write this story as well as you've helped me to visualize it. THANK you!
I have to say, RUclips is a wonderful thing. I've just spent a little while investigating the "insight" function which analysies the video views for this trailer, and I was pleasantly shocked to see visitors from as far afield as Peru, South Korea, Lithuania and Macedonia have all passed by this video. Everyone's welcome, whichever part of the planet you come from. I just wanted to say hello and let you know how pleased I am that my work is so global :)
A masterpiece of the highest order, Mr. H. I thought your previous efforts were un-top-able, but here you've gone and outdone yourself again! Thank you!
It's best when it opens with the "Time Lords of Gallifrey led a life of peace, and ordered calm..." speech. Puts it in perspective for those who might never have heard of/watched Doctor Who.
Wow! Brilliantly done! You've taken scenes and music and dialogue from all over and placed it together so that it told a coherent and exciting and sad but wonderful story. Awesome. VERY well done!
Stuart, this is one of the very best videos I've had the pleasure of seeing on RUclips and, certainly, one of your finest; thank you -very much- for your efforts! I mean, really, you offer this -for free- to share with the world! Talk about generosity! THANK YOU! What a fine gift for your fellow Doctor Who fans!
I thought your first one was good, but you have really outdone yourself. That was absolutely fantastic. I love how you messed McGann and Eccelston and even showed a regeneration between the two, and the change between TARDIS styles. I *loved* it so much! I gave me chills. Can't wait for more!
I would pay SO MUCH money to get this made into a movie! This really needs to happen, it would be beyond epic! (This, and I would really like to see a flash back episode to the Doctor's days at the academy) This video goes beyond spectacular, I actually forgot that it was fan made, to the point in which I was severely disappointed when I remembered it was only 5 minutes!
OMG that was EPIC!!! AWESOME!!!! I remember your original Time War video years ago. Nice to see a revamp with all the newer appearances to work with! Your videos/tributes always ROCK!
Thank you 13thDoctor. Ironically, the effect that took the longest to do is the one I suspect nobody will ever even notice - there's one shot of Mr Eccleston in which I digitally painted out Captain Jack. That was a real pig to do.
There's already a rather wonderful black & white video called "A prelude to Totter's Lane" out there on the internet (I picked up a copy in 2006) which does exactly what you describe. I have no idea who created it though and I don't think it's on RUclips. I'd feel like I was ripping it off if I tried to make my own version.
This is the one thing that confuses me about the War Doctor, the idea behind him is that his acts were so terrible that the Doctor disowned him but the Doctor has already admitted to wiping out both races. If Hurt was supposed to be so secret why admit to his actions multiple times?
I originally assumed that the 50th anniversary episode would just give more detail on what drove The Doctor's actions, rather than undo it. I took the setup to mean that the Doctor destroying Gallifrey was the first and only Doctor-like thing this incarnation did - to end the Time War and save the Universe - and thus the only action that the others were willing to admit to. But the War Doctor would be shown as a bloodthirsty and warmongering incarnation who would have to be lead back to the light by his future selves. So the later Doctors disowned the War Doctor's actions except his very last. Unfortunately, that incredibly obvious approach wasn't the one Moffat went for.
so again, your ideas are the best i'v heard recently...and you have also awnsered a question which burned me for a long time: I knew the Daleks were great enemy's in the classic series but they never convinced me as equals of the Time Lords. So i wondered how the Daleks were suddenly able over-throw Galifrey's forces where even The Sontarans the universes greatest warriors only succeded to seige it one single day. Offcourse the awnser is, by turning all there defeats into victorys'... fantastic!
Why is everyone here hating on Moffat for the War Doctor? If Eccelstone had agreed to be part of the 50th, there would be No War doctor. It would have been Eccelston in that role. But because he doesn't want anything to do with the series any more, Moffat had to rewrite it. With no Nine, a hidden regeneration was the only way to actually show the Time War. That's hardly Moffat's fault.
moon_ giggler The 50th Aniversary was always going to be about the Time War. And with Ecclestone refusing to take part, a "Hidden Doctor" was the sensible idea. I thought Hurt was great as The Doctor!
The ULTIMATE version of your masterpiece. You pull off the impossible, and that's make the next Time War trailer even more perfect than the last one. This is pure artistry.
Eh, I prefer this version to the updated one - I didn't really care for Moffat's idea of how the Time War really ended. I mean, does anyone besides the enemy really die in Doctor Who anymore? Amy and Rory were sent back, River's come back like three or four times now, and all the Time Lords are perfectly alright? It's kind of annoying. Anyway though, rant over haha. Love your videos and all of course, keep up the awesome work.
I love the way you used Four's dialogue in The Deadly Assassin at the beginning, because I always thought that sounded like he was describing the Time War!
First, let me say that I am amazed at the talented you possess. Bravo!!! I think this should be required viewing prior to the new show. Very well done!!!
This was so well done. You did a great job, considering you had such little footage of 8 and 9 to work with. I also like how you made a regeneration scene for 8 to 9.
What an excellent way to celebrate Dr. Who's 45th Birthday, "FANTASTIC!" to quote my favorite Doc. I especially liked your inclusion of some of the audio drama clips, Terror Firma happens to be my favorite, 10000/10000. This is better than the other two (which were brilliant) put together!
That was actually really good. You didn't do what you couldn't and made quite the very most of what you could and ended up with something amazing. Well done sir!!
Brilliant, like all your videos. Clearly a penchant for being able to put details together with insurmountable reserves of patience to put these videos together (no doubt requiring both time and money for the necessary software and hardware).
@BabelColour dude... seriously? thats BRILLIANT!! usually there is something of a lag or a difference in pitch... i had to re- listen several times just to realise it WASNT all one spoken sentance... great job mate
all i can say is wow. if ever another film was to be made...and not let the americans get there hands on it then this has set out how perfect the story would be. Its amazing how well u have edited this there are times i think they were clips from a real episode rather thne bits fomr here and there. well done
I think 1 reason it would be so good to have a film that reintroduces the first doctor and allows events to play out slightly while not being a total reboot, repecting classic series by linking to it is then that you could go on to adapt those lost episodes to the big screen. Imangine that, it would be awesome! Movies of serials like Marco Polo, Power of the Dlaeks, The Dalek Masterplan, the Reign of terror, the Highlanders, the Moonbase, the Macra terror etc
Oh that was excellent. Very well done. I wish they would do a sweeping onscreen expose of the Time War. Maybe for the fiftieth anniversary. You ask me, the writers should start looking right here for inspiration.
I started this clip up in school right when this other kid was putting his hard drive in. He thought the TARDIS grinding was his drive, so I told him "Look, if your drive is making the same sound as the TARDIS, run as fast as you can away"
This could easily just be another tribute, but it isn't! The editing, and the additional effects make this almost like the BBC themselves made it. For that, I thank you!
I would imagine Galactus in Fantastic 4: Rise of the Silver Surfer could be a good stand-in for The Nightmare Child. I love how this vid constantly evolves!
That's brilliant. I would love to see a regeneration for the 8th Doctor some day. Perhaps we'll see a bit of the Time War in the new season. Who knows.
This video was what I genuinley thought the time war was back when I first started watching the show! Didn’t realise it was fan made
The fact that the video's aspect ratio is 4:3 and the quality only can go up to 480p make this video feel more authentic because if Doctor Who still went on during the Wilderness Years, the TV quality would have been like that in the late '90 and early 2000s!
A great, albeit unintended touch Stuart!
Terrifying that this video was such an iconic part of my childhood and now it's 12 years old
LMAO, i was 9 when this video came out! Im now 21 haha... Where does the time go!?

Eccleston and McGann couldve and should've been far bigger than Tennant and Smith
@@blackham7 in my opinion every doctor is amazing in their own way you cant just put one above the other.
God Bless you for this video. As a small child I first encountered Doctor Who on SciFi channel ("Are you My Mummy?") and I went to RUclips looking up Doctor Who stuff and this was what I found. For me, this video is the canon version of the Time War.
I won't say it's a bad video but I do say you have bad taste

Watched this one over and over for a few days. I'm amazed you created this!
I've heard people say that the Time War is so epic that it could never be shown on screen. But you've come PRETTY DAMN CLOSE. Absolutely beautiful.
Even though this video has been superseded I still enjoy watching it. It was very imaginative.
By far the best Time War tribute
Nov. 25, 2008? Wow, this video was before Matt Smith had even been notified to be playing the 11th Doctor!
Yes it was.

Absolutely amazing, a brilliant improvement and development on the last two.
Great use of the Big Finish audios.
The update is in progress!
Good to know, looking forward to it :D
Very Good video, I recognise most of the doctor who quotes and clips, was the two ships crashing star ship troopers?
+Jackal Muldipulus CABAL From Starship Troopers
+MrPeterpiper1969 It's during the 1st attack on Klendathu
OMG that was EPIC!!! AWESOME!!!!
I remember your original Time War video years ago. Nice to see a revamp with all the newer appearances to work with!
Your videos/tributes always ROCK!
I still like this video despite developments on the official show.
This was incredible when I saw it for the first time as a kid, as this is what I imagined what happened at that time
This is still canon to me. Screw Moffat's half-assery!
Don't update it, mate. This is perfection
He just released a video featuring John Hurt's War Doctor.
GRRR. Damn you Steven Moffat! Damn you to Shada!!!
You know moffat only modified it because Eccleston didn't want part in the 50th anniversary
I also know he's more obsessed with preserving his legacy to where he forgets that Doctor Who isn't one man's vision; this also appies to the Time War
Thank you 13thDoctor. Ironically, the effect that took the longest to do is the one I suspect nobody will ever even notice - there's one shot of Mr Eccleston in which I digitally painted out Captain Jack. That was a real pig to do.

This was canon in my mind as a kid
This is the one thing that confuses me about the War Doctor, the idea behind him is that his acts were so terrible that the Doctor disowned him but the Doctor has already admitted to wiping out both races. If Hurt was supposed to be so secret why admit to his actions multiple times?

I saw this first when I was 8 years old, and watched it 5 to 6 times, first time since then that I've come back and it still looks amazing!
You should just leave this, it doesn't need an update. Everything in here is a hell of a lot better than all the Moffat/War Doctor crap.

I really want to see the whole film now!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
That was fantastic, obviously a lot of work and interesting to think about. Thank you.
I love the way you used Four's dialogue in The Deadly Assassin at the beginning, because I always thought that sounded like he was describing the Time War!
I love this trailer. I honestly think it's better than anything they could possibly give us at this point.
Summing it all up in under 6 minutes an epic piece of work!!
Absoulutly aamazing. All your videos are just simply amazing! This and your triibute to Lis Sladen are just absolutly amazing!
Well, I'm delighted it's caused such a positive reaction in you, SoulRythm. Thank you
amazing, absolutely amazing! i'd love to see a full length movie of the time war.
Excellent as ever - the Paul McGann sections left me wondering just what a McGann TV series would have been like.
A thing of beauty...
...my hat is off to you Sir. Outstanding.
Incredible, you clearly have a huge passion for the show and this video was a labour of love.

Oh my God. This is AMAZING! I am in awe of your talent.
I really like the way you cleverly edited the 8th to 9th Doctor's transformation.
Haven't seen this in ages nostalgia
I never grow tired of watching this. Thanks again, old man ;-)
Excellent, well done.
I would love to see them make a movie of the Time War.

Of all the Doctor Who Time War Music Videos that i've seen, this is by far the greatest.
Really intelligently put together from so many sources. Very good work.
That was actually really good. You didn't do what you couldn't and made quite the very most of what you could and ended up with something amazing.
Well done sir!!
words cannot describe how good this was

I hadn't realised there were actually this many references to thing that happened during the timewar. Wow. This was epic in all meanings of the word.
This was amazing. I found myself crying a bit, close to the end.
wow! I have no words to discribe it! magnifisent!! you've done a really great job! and again, it's brilliant!
Wow. This was absolutely astonishing - beautifully done.
I like not knowing what happened. But this is a great compilation of all the allusions to it. Excellent job!
Once again, superb editing in this. Definitely a keeper for me!
You are so damn talented, you must be really proud of all your work.

great blend of invasion of time and the new series dalek stories! well done!
Oh that was excellent. Very well done. I wish they would do a sweeping onscreen expose of the Time War. Maybe for the fiftieth anniversary. You ask me, the writers should start looking right here for inspiration.

very nice. Love the fact that you used the new staser effect.
This could easily just be another tribute, but it isn't! The editing, and the additional effects make this almost like the BBC themselves made it. For that, I thank you!
The Dalek at 1:50 is so quiet I can't understand him. Same at 3:37ish.
Definitely a superior version, you've outdone yourself yet again. Bravo!
This is the best Who fanvid on the internet. I can't wait to see it updated with Rassilon from the End of Time
ironic that this is 10x better than what we got
who needs a movie, this is good enough
this needs to be made as a Direct to DVD movie!!!
I would imagine Galactus in Fantastic 4: Rise of the Silver Surfer could be a good stand-in for The Nightmare Child.
I love how this vid constantly evolves!
I like the way they do know, leaving small information now and then
That's brilliant. I would love to see a regeneration for the 8th Doctor some day. Perhaps we'll see a bit of the Time War in the new season. Who knows.
Excellent work. BBC definitely needs to make a Doctor Who: Time War mini-series.
I love the "I, Claudius" Derek Jacobi footage fitted in to show a younger "Professor Yana".
Thanks TARDIS08Productions. I'm glad you think it's better than the last version - it makes the hours re-compiling it worth while :)
its very gud that u imagend all this and got all these clips its bloody amazing i love the song in the backdown
