I'm loving the contrast from sub to dub. In sub, Akaashi sounds more respectful and has undertones of sassy but in the dub, he goes all out and doesn't give an f but that's sounds a lot like the other characters. The eng dub fits right into American culture like it's an anime made from America or something. Like if Haikyuu in dub suddenly appeared on my tv screen on a channel such as Cartoon Network or something, I would think this wasn't from Japan. Like their lines aren't like straight translations, their like rewritten to feel natural. All their conversations feel so natural.
because Japan is a very respectful country where underclassmen's have to respect their seniors a lot. but is like North America, age doesn't really equal the amount of respect you get

Excellent points! Personally, the fact that everybody talks the same way in the English dub means that most of the character arcs and dynamics are lost, and that’s what drew me to Haikyuu in the first place. It really does sound natural, though, and it’s undoubtedly funny. The voice actors sound like they’re having a good time!
Sub Akaashi: Gentle, Bokuto's HypeMan and Handler, very respectful, it's obvious how much he adores his idiot
Dub Akaashi: The passive-aggressive best friend who isn't here for the drama. Grudgingly involved with Bokuto's antics

@@maraswanson7135 i actually do prefer bokuto in the dub too, but that's just preferences hahah. either way, every actor has done a great job at delivering the lines of their characters, and i enjoy both the dub and the sub for different reasons:)

I prefer Akaashi’s Japanese voice actor because I feel like it suits his personality and his face more 😚 the English dub is soooo funny though so I feel like we win either way 😆

The essence is pretty similar but Sub Akaashi's phrasing is more respectful and polite haha.
Dub Akaashi just reallllyy ups the sass and sounds sarcastic even when he's actually admiring Bokuto.

Bokuto: “I am calm!”
Dub:
Akaashi: “Come on Bokuto, we need to stay calm here-“

I love how much overlap their is with Bokuto in the comparison. Akaashi can barely have a solo moment, but they're such a great duo. Both sub and dub are fantastic all around for this show. :D

Since the dialogue for the English dub has all the characters talk in a similar manner (lots of sass and playful aggression), it kind of erases personalities? English Akaashi, for instance, really isn’t distinguishable from most other characters dialogue-wise. I can’t see his manga arc playing out for this version of the character. But it’s entertaining!

@@imlubu hq dub is generally liked because of the dialogue rather than the voice acting (Tanaka for example has excellent lines that surpass his sub versions lines)

Granted Japanese is not my natural language, but Im shocked this is the same voice actor as Sawamura from Ace of Diamond. Its sounds nothing like him. I just started watching Akame ga Kill and Tatsumi too me sounded like Sawamura. So I looked up the voice actor and saw he did this character in Haikyu.
