Lovely looking car. I love where the gear selector is located, on the left side of the steering column. I've seen right-hand drive that have the gear selector on the right side of the steering column, towards the driver's side door.
had a blue one with a cream roof for my first car. complete with Venetian blinds in the back window. two speed heater demister. drum brakes which put your life in your hands if you had to stop quickly from the open road speed limit. ;-)
the first mostly australian engineered was not until the xa onwards, dont forget the the xr,xt,xw and xy shape was still being built in the usa to around 1970 odd, any way l am in my 60s now and have had amongst lots of other cars, a dozen marks of falcons from the xk to my current fg xr6 over the years, when l was 19 years old in the early 70s l had a lovely aqua coloured xm, bone vinyl roof, lowered, roh drag mags and other things of the day, but my my mate could hose me with his eh and hot 179, so with my older bros. help l pulled out the slug 170 and 2 speed auto and replaced with a 221 cube or 3.6 litre with 3 speed auto out of a smashed xw fairmont, and l tell you what with the low ratio original diff, was as fast in acceleration as an xy with a 302, just as an aside any you younger fellas want to give a good note to an earlier falcon, a set of extractors twin system, just put a couple of sports mufflers right up the front from the end of the extractors then pipe straight down over the diff to the rear, you will fool everyone that its got an eight in it at lower revs
The Falcons (the mighty birds) I've had .. XB Ute , XE GL , EF Futura five speed , AU ll Futura and still got her , BA Fairmont Ghia and FG XR6 that I still happily own ..so I've had two X series , one E Series , one B series , one A series and one F series ...Love them all ...Other Fords ...A Mk2 Zephyr owned by my father , A mk 1 Escort , three Mk 2 Escorts and one Telstar (AS Series ) ..The AU ll is truly bullet proof and the places that car has been and still goes would make your hair curl on fishing trips and such ..Toyota reliability be buggered ...not many come near the Ford Falcon reliability ..
Minor disagreement as this was written 7 years after this original post. Here in North America the ORIGINAL 1960 Falcon was produced only until the 1965 model year. And of that group, the shape of the body panels were changed for the 64 and 65 models. Starting with the 1966 models the general CONCEPT of the Falcon changed but was a larger car. It's not the sporty version and it's not in any way like an XR6 predecessor. It's more like a mainstream regular car like a Falcon XT or Forte. Great Doco though .

When you flatten the throttle, it changes into second gear at 50MPH 😂
