I took a rescued iguana that was caught in the in field of the daytona speedway in dec 2016. He's a beast now! stays inside in the winter and has an 8x8 outdoor enclosure for most of the year. I got lucky with his personality. What a sweet boy he is! Cherries are his favorite treat.
While we do feel that invasive animals can throw off the balance of ecosystems and should be controlled, we really don’t enjoy seeing the animals shot in that way. A lot of hunters show great respect for the animals they kill, but these “cowboys” seem act like their killing alien invaders. We don’t typically watch those videos either way.
We handle them quite a bit as a part of our traveling show so they're just super calm and unaggressive. I tell people that they either think they're human or we're lizards! 😊
They are very intelligent animals. With a little work you can have an incredibly friendly large lizard. Without any work and they will mess you up haha.
Iguanas is probably one of the worst pets you can get. They are incredibly hard to take care of and require a lot of money. They can also be very aggressive. Even if they seem calm they can change spontaneously.
It really just depends. They can be incredible pets but we definitely have seen males flip the switch over time and become very territorial when in their enclosure. But we agree they are for experienced keepers.

Spiny can be super cool as well. They still take time to calm down and can be very flighty and will bite if grabbed. But with patience they can be very chill.
Im a beginner and bought my buddy Sal, Hes a Axanthic Iguana and hes the most amazing pet. He does have his moments where i am always nervous but we both share a room and like the same temps so he just free roams in my room. Working on handling rn but other than that hes chill and lets me love him and i think if you are a beginner and have time they're perfect but as you guys said not if you dont have the time or money.

Ha, I don't know, once in a while we end up with a Ford Escort lizard but the majority of the iguanas we've raised have been super sweet. They are definitely a lot of work!! Thank you for commenting.

When I was visiting Mexico out of the city in the country I saw a big one just strolling along like nothing. First time I've ever seen one it was beautiful.
I always thought if you put 2 malw iguanas close to each other they fight and are super aggressive but these 3 are beautiful boys nice and calm and no heat bobbing up amd down thats the cutest
If you keep them in an enclosure together they will try and establish dominance as well as territory, this is when they will fight. The fact that we handle these iguanas everyday and use them in our educational shows makes them much more calm, even towards each other but we would not be able to keep them together in the same enclosure. We have a rescue green iguana. We are her third home. I spend a lot more time with her than my wife does. She was acting feisty the other day and I told my wife to watch out......needless to say,our iguana tried to bite my wife in the face 😂 My wife now listens to me 🤣 Looks like you have some awesome lizards there! Jennifer Taulbee- It's actually called a sub-tympanic shield. Scientists believe it may serve to confuse birds of prey and other predators into thinking it is their real eye. Another theory is that it may break up the shape of the head and help camouflage the lizard. I personally think it might be there to spark people's curiosity, forcing them to go to our channel and make comments and ask questions, causing our channel to grow and become the greatest nature channel known to all mankind.

I have around a 9 month old green iguana and he is starting puberty and just very aggressive when first trying to handle him. Seconds after he is out of his enclosure and sitting on my lap he is as calm as can be. And this is a daily thing. How often does it take for a iguana to feel as if it’s starting to become a routine
Same here, mine is just sitting in my arm chilling but he was running and tailwhiping me when I was gonna get him out, I used to have another one when I was little, but he was calm , I'm not sure why , but they are pretty smart , it could be a personality trait
This is typical of lizards to be territorial of their enclosures. Unfortunately sometimes they will stay this way no matter how many times you interact with them. You can try changing things up in the enclosure or feeding outside of the enclosure to stop any food excitement/aggression. You could also try opening one side when removing the lizard and using the other when feeding if that’s an option. Just have patients, they are smart animals and will learn.
Does the orange iguana start off with those colors or do they get them during breeding season cause I've seen some with partial orange then others that are just all orange

This is so true. So many people saw Ziggy in the window, they caught him and brought him "HOME'" Later like a month outside in an Urban surrounding.. I wonder what creatures he ate meanwhile or is it that he just kept High on Grass. It was starting to get cold out. He was outside on the sidewalk when they brought him in. "How did he get out"?
I have a 5 month old aqua blue iguana. I think it’s male I’m not sure. I’m trying to train it to be less territorial and friendlier. What advice would you give me ? I just hope that’s not his personality 😭😫
It’s natural for younger iguanas to be skidding and territorial. Patience and persistence is the best approach. You can try feeding from tongs and feeding outside of enclosure so you can pet him while he eats or just be close by. If you need to don’t feel silly to wear a protective glove to offer food by hand or to gently remove from enclosure. Once they figure out biting doesn’t deter you and that you’re not a threat or scared of them they will usually calm down. If you can sit with him in a room and allow it to explore and come to you on its own that can help as well. Just experiment with positive reinforcement and good experiences with you. Hope that helps.
Yes adults get to hold the animals as well. Our shows are for all ages!! We don’t believe you should ever outgrow a love for animals and nature. The lizards are kept separate in their own enclosures, but at shows they tolerate each other haha. We do shows in the Chicagoland area.
TheDude They are fabulous, but unfortunately they are invasive in Florida. It sucks because the iguanas did nothing wrong, but they need to be exterminated for the sake of the local ecosystems.
Water Bottle yeah I know. I used to have a green iguana. His name was Jack . And oh boy he was a great , kind animal ! He would sleep on my chest at night and roam around and get back to his cage . I have german shepard now but reptiles are my favourite animals. Maybe thats why I got frustrated at people hunting them. Nonetheless great video and iguanas!

I came home from work today and there was a cage and a baby iguana. I went to the reptile store and asked another of questions. While I was asking these questions they didn't seam to sure on their answers now I wasn't mad that he got it but I'm going to be the one taking care of her. Right now she is sitting in my cleaving sleeping while I'm watching videos. I love the little thing already. I'm terrified she won't make cause I don't know a lot about them but I want to know. Please help.
It’s important that they are kept warm with a heat lamp and a separate uvb bulb to mimic the sun. It should be fed leafy greens like spring mix, turnip greens, collards, etc. You can add shredded carrots, sweet potatoes, squash, peas and other fruits and veggies. You can google iguana care sheets and tank setups also. Hope this helps some.
Oh boy… so I’ve probably made a stupid mistake but we have a small pet shop in my little town and I saw the little guy emaciated in a small tank with a single florescent heat lamp laid on top of the cage top… I bought him, got some greens and fruits for him. Gotta get a ceramic heating lamp and hopefully find a mist machine to help him stay moist. I’ll also have to find a bigger enclosure. This is going to be one hell of a trip and I hope I can keep up with him to help him grow to be happy and healthy… if you have any tips please PLEASE give me some, money isn’t a problem and I can find/make space for a larger enclosure. If emaciated I would definitely give it a soak in warm water and feed it well with leafy greens like dandelion, collards, spring mix, boo Choy, endive. Make sure to add calcium powder with D3 if no UV bulb was used, but don’t over do it with the D3 as that can make it worse. You can do reptile calcium without d3 and get a UV bulb on it asap to prevent metabolic bone disease
@@NatureInYourFace thank you very much for the reply! I haven’t seen any symptoms pertaining to MBD and I’m getting a vet visit set up (hopefully soon!). I have been feeding the little guy all of the above but he refuses to soak in any capacity and I don’t want to force him to do so for fear of stressing him out, I got him a UV bulb as soon as he got home and I have been using calcium supplementation without D3. He is fairly active and I’ve kept his enclosure within recommended parameters. Edit: I do have a mister running to keep the humidity around 70-80%
Clint's Reptiles did an episode about iguanas and said how they were one of the worst reptiles to have because of aggression, which I thought was pretty short-sighted. As you said, it depends on the individual iguana and it also requires a lot of socialization.
I'd agree that iguanas don't necessarily make great starter pets, particularly if you don't have time to socialize them but to generalize and say that they make the "worst" pets is simply untrue. We've raised them from hatchlings as well as taken in adults that we've rescued and the majority of them are super sweet. I'm surprised he said that about iguanas. They definitely all have different personalities. Maybe he had a bad experience with one leading him to believe that they're all similar. Thanks for commenting and watching our video!

That is what we are thinking. It has had an X-ray and there’s no sign of injury, just didn’t grow to the size it should. Fortunately it doesn’t affect it and it eats like a pig haha.
@@mr.cartoonist1188 It's really just a color they have sometimes. Green, yellow, blue, orange, red, Iguanas come in a bunch of different colors and they tend to brighten or darken as they age. Green Iguana (or Iguana Iguana) is the species name.

If you mate with a green iguana you’ll mostly get all green iguanas that are het for blue. You’re better off using another blue iguana to produce more blue babies. If some how the green iguana came from a blue iguana, then you might have a chance of getting some blue and some green.
I'm allergic to fur and feathers so my iguana has been trained to be my service animal. He is a rescue that was miss handled as a baby. He is in toilet training right now but prefers to go out side. Winter weather will make that hard soon so the toilet it will be

Yes they are all green iguanas. Makes especially get the nice orange colors, but you could find a breeder who produces high orange ones as well. As far as owning one in Canada we really don’t know as we live in the U.S. The orange would cost the same as the green typically but the blue one is more.
Iguana bites can be bad and definitely can get infected if not properly cleaned. Their teeth are serrated and they have powerful jaws. Best to start off with a baby so you can raise it up to be sweet. They are not poisonous.
@@TimidLimit where so you live? Look up the NARBC its a reptile breeder expo that travels the country in the US. You can go there and pick one out. Or see if you have a reptile specific pet store near you. Definitely not Petco or Petsmart.
They're a bit more work compared to your beardies and geckos simply because of their size and the required, arboreal set up. They can also be moody so you have to work with them. The worse thing is raising an iguana to full size but not being able to handle it because it's too aggressive. Now you've got Godzilla in your house and you have to clean his poop every day!!!
Look for a reputable breeder or a local reptile specific store that sells babies that are used to people and being held. Make sure it has a nice fat tail and looks active and not skinny and sleeps all the time.
They can make great and very rewarding pets, but do require a lot of time and handling to get them tame. Just make sure to acquire a healthy one and you shouldn’t have a problem as long as you are patient with it.
a couple years ago i had a green and blue iguana i was like 8 and it didnt live long the blue one did die realy qiuckly but the green one lived a little longer
Iguanas are known to die young, even under "optimal" care. It happens to the best, well intended keepers and no one knows why. The fact is, there's a lot to learn about iguanas in captivity, including their diet, lighting, temp and humidity, etc. We've come a long way but there are still many questions surrounding the "correct" way to keep them. The fact is, no one can completely replicate their wild habitat while owning one in captivity. The proof is seeing one in the wild with its huge dorsal crest, enormous jowls and brilliant orange coloration. Thanks for commenting.

You can use an over the counter anti-fungal cream and put a small amount on and around the affected areas. Clean the area real good first. Make sure you change the water and don't let any food sit in the food dish. Bacteria in bad food or dirty water can cause a nasty infection. There's something called Vetericyn that you can buy at most pet stores which is supposed to work well.
our iguana is considered a cat in our rental agreement for where we live. my baby Morris (named after Jim Morrison, the Lizard King) will be turning 18 years old in May.

I've been bitten 3 times on my fingers and a full grown male grabbed ahold of my nose during breeding season so I agree dont want to get bit by one and all my bites were bloody but mild compared to what I have heard they can do
Yikes! Bitten on the nose doesn’t sound fun. I’ve had one jump aggressively and hit me in the face with its mouth closed luckily. Their teeth are no joke.
@@NatureInYourFace he was somewhat an aggressive iguana(alpha male) most of the time he was fine but there was times he like to chase me around. Left jeans on the ground at all times for him. he only bite me once.
Thanks for your question......female iguanas do not get nearly as big as the males and average between 4 and 5 feet in length. Males can reach 6 feet in length, particularly in the wild, where they can eat a proper diet, soak up the UV from the sun and are not restricted to a small enclosure which can stunt growth. The red coloration does not factor in to size and is nothing more than a color morph. Hope this helps and thanks again for asking!
Iguanas are cool but definitely not for beginners they're excitability and a ton of work. I think bearded dragons are the best also leopard geckos they're very gentle
We 💯 % agree with that. We’ve had tame males get nasty down the road and a full grown male can do some real damage. Beardeds and leopards are great lizards all around.
Whats up.. just Bought a male and a female green iguana off underground reptiles trying to tame them they are skittish at times they are yearlings i can hold them and pet them all over they just become scared when im trying to get them out thier enclosure my female dropped her tail 🤦🏽and at times they just runaway after sitting with me for awhile any advice?
Yo. It’s very possible they were farm raised and therefore might take longer to adapt to their enclosures. Give them time to settle in but let them see you from the enclosure. Try offering food from tongs, especially red and orange foods as that will be more appealing. If they are young the tail will fully grow back. Try just petting with hand or other while they eat. Sometimes forcing them to be handled can do the opposite and they associate it with a negative thing. Food is always a good way to show you are friend not foe.

Just rescued one from the flea market Sunday. Poor fellow very emaciated. I've been feeding it puree with vitamins and reptical. By syringe. As well as fresh veggies sprinkled with the vitamins and reptical. We have him in a 40 gallon tank while we het him healthy. He's still very docile but he finally pooped today and is moving round bit. We also have a larger cage for him. And we are planning on building a 8ftX4ftX6ft tall enclosure. He is presently about 2ft long. He will see his vet (herpetologist) Thursday. Any helpful Ideas to encourage him to eat more? He takes about 3 syringe fulls of food and 1.5 -2 syringeful of water per feeding (2× a day). The syringe is 3ml.
Good job on saving it! They are very color motivated when it comes to food, so if you add any red or yellow fruit or veggies to the salad that might help it eat. Also try getting it outside in the sun. Ours love to go outside and bask and the unfiltered sun can’t be beat. I would also try warm soakings in water for hydration and pooping. Hope this helps.
You're doing great from everything I've read. Once he begins to eat on his own I would go on-line and order a bag of Mizzuri herbivore diet. Sprinkle a liberal amount on top of the veggies you feed him and that will get him to put on weight quickly. Although he's emaciated you should be able to get him healthy pretty quick. Again, great job and keep us informed on his progress!
He gets a good tub soaking after his morning feedings. And when it's sunny we put him in his larger cage on the porch. I'm in South Carolina so we're in no short abundance of natural uvb. Plus I make sure to spritz him and his "salads" quite frequently. He seems ro enjoy the spritzing. He closes his eyes and raises up. This is the second iguana I've owned so still novice with them. Have some experience with other legged reptiles. But they were omnivorous. Kept my other guy around for 10 years. Hopefully we get this guy up and about. Hopefully he'll get a clean bill of health from the vet. I've not seen parasites in his poo. And haven't seen any mites when drying him off and looking close. So I'm hoping he's just undernourished but otherwise healthy. Thank you so much for the encouragement and the supplement suggestion. Is the iguana shedding? Sounds strange and without a pic it's hard for us to know if it's an injury, disease or something completely normal. Hey you probably won't respond but I need help they gave me a baby green iguana and I have nothing for it can u list things that are needed? I've searched but it's confusing
Well first you need an escape proof enclosure with door or lid that can be secured shut. An aquarium will work for a baby but eventually it will need a much larger cage. You’ll need a water bowl, branches for climbing as well as a place to hide in. We recommend using coconut coir bedding or aspen as it is safe for reptiles(no pine). They need to be kept warm and a basking spot under a lamp around 90° with air temp at least in the high 70’s. They also require a uvb bulb to act as the sun. As far as food goes dark leafy greens are best; collards, mustard greens, dandelions greens or even spring mix works well. Spring mix does have spinach leaves in it but small amounts are fine so don’t worry about that. They can eat romaine lettuce as well but not as a staple. You can shred carrots, squash, sweet potatoes, flowers(hibiscus, dandelion). They can have fruit as a treat or added to the lettuce but use sparingly. We also use Mazuri herbivore diet pellets as it’s a zoo grade food. You’ll also want to add calcium powder supplements to food a few times a week. Use one with D3 if you don’t have uvb bulb or just calcium if you do have uvb bulb. Hope that helps some. Feel free to ask more specific questions about the care and set up. They key is keeping them warm and feeding a good variety.
No, normal green iguanas have orange and brown pigment which can make them look similar to the red phase color morph. They do look somewhat similar so I can see why you might confuse it for one. Thanks for commenting.
My uncle a had a orange one just like the one in the middle it was a bit bigger than yours that iguana had a whole room too himself but only went in to bask and eat most of the time it was just a Dino dog he is no longer with us R.I.P. Rico

Yes that is true unfortunately. We sat by and let the invasive animals take over without doing anything about it until they are everywhere and a huge problem. It’s sad for the native animals and the non native ones.
Fortunately all three of the lizards in this video are really sweet. Iguana bites are terrible and they can get infected very easily if you're not careful. A face bite does not sound fun!
It really depends on the age of your iguana and how much of it broke. If it’s very young then yes it will fully grow back but will look different from its original. If it’s an adult or even older sub adult it probably will grow a little but will always end in a nub and not a point and never grow full length. Sorry that happened. 😔

Females tend to be slimmer anyway compared to males. Have you tried Mazuri herbivore diet? It’s used by zoos and our iguanas love the small pellets. It helps them put on weight. You can get it at a local feed store, just ask if they can order it if not in stock.

Im a beginner and bought my buddy Sal, Hes a Axanthic Iguana and hes the most amazing pet. He does have his moments where i am always nervous but we both share a room and like the same temps so he just free roams in my room. Working on handling rn but other than that hes chill and lets me love him and i think if you are a beginner and have time they're perfect but as you guys said not if you dont have the time or money.

I always thought if you put 2 malw iguanas close to each other they fight and are super aggressive but these 3 are beautiful boys nice and calm and no heat bobbing up amd down thats the cutest
If you keep them in an enclosure together they will try and establish dominance as well as territory, this is when they will fight. The fact that we handle these iguanas everyday and use them in our educational shows makes them much more calm, even towards each other but we would not be able to keep them together in the same enclosure. We have a rescue green iguana. We are her third home. I spend a lot more time with her than my wife does. She was acting feisty the other day and I told my wife to watch out......needless to say,our iguana tried to bite my wife in the face 😂 My wife now listens to me 🤣 Looks like you have some awesome lizards there! What purpose do the eyespots on the side of the face serve?
Jennifer Taulbee- It's actually called a sub-tympanic shield. Scientists believe it may serve to confuse birds of prey and other predators into thinking it is their real eye. Another theory is that it may break up the shape of the head and help camouflage the lizard. I personally think it might be there to spark people's curiosity, forcing them to go to our channel and make comments and ask questions, causing our channel to grow and become the greatest nature channel known to all mankind.

I have around a 9 month old green iguana and he is starting puberty and just very aggressive when first trying to handle him. Seconds after he is out of his enclosure and sitting on my lap he is as calm as can be. And this is a daily thing. How often does it take for a iguana to feel as if it’s starting to become a routine
Same here, mine is just sitting in my arm chilling but he was running and tailwhiping me when I was gonna get him out, I used to have another one when I was little, but he was calm , I'm not sure why , but they are pretty smart , it could be a personality trait
This is typical of lizards to be territorial of their enclosures. Unfortunately sometimes they will stay this way no matter how many times you interact with them. You can try changing things up in the enclosure or feeding outside of the enclosure to stop any food excitement/aggression. You could also try opening one side when removing the lizard and using the other when feeding if that’s an option. Just have patients, they are smart animals and will learn.

I have a 5 month old aqua blue iguana. I think it’s male I’m not sure. I’m trying to train it to be less territorial and friendlier. What advice would you give me ? I just hope that’s not his personality 😭😫
It’s natural for younger iguanas to be skidding and territorial. Patience and persistence is the best approach. You can try feeding from tongs and feeding outside of enclosure so you can pet him while he eats or just be close by. If you need to don’t feel silly to wear a protective glove to offer food by hand or to gently remove from enclosure. Once they figure out biting doesn’t deter you and that you’re not a threat or scared of them they will usually calm down. If you can sit with him in a room and allow it to explore and come to you on its own that can help as well. Just experiment with positive reinforcement and good experiences with you. Hope that helps.

Yes adults get to hold the animals as well. Our shows are for all ages!! We don’t believe you should ever outgrow a love for animals and nature. The lizards are kept separate in their own enclosures, but at shows they tolerate each other haha. We do shows in the Chicagoland area.

I came home from work today and there was a cage and a baby iguana. I went to the reptile store and asked another of questions. While I was asking these questions they didn't seam to sure on their answers now I wasn't mad that he got it but I'm going to be the one taking care of her. Right now she is sitting in my cleaving sleeping while I'm watching videos. I love the little thing already. I'm terrified she won't make cause I don't know a lot about them but I want to know. Please help.
It’s important that they are kept warm with a heat lamp and a separate uvb bulb to mimic the sun. It should be fed leafy greens like spring mix, turnip greens, collards, etc. You can add shredded carrots, sweet potatoes, squash, peas and other fruits and veggies. You can google iguana care sheets and tank setups also. Hope this helps some.

Oh boy… so I’ve probably made a stupid mistake but we have a small pet shop in my little town and I saw the little guy emaciated in a small tank with a single florescent heat lamp laid on top of the cage top… I bought him, got some greens and fruits for him. Gotta get a ceramic heating lamp and hopefully find a mist machine to help him stay moist. I’ll also have to find a bigger enclosure. This is going to be one hell of a trip and I hope I can keep up with him to help him grow to be happy and healthy… if you have any tips please PLEASE give me some, money isn’t a problem and I can find/make space for a larger enclosure. Thank you for the video and the great info.
If emaciated I would definitely give it a soak in warm water and feed it well with leafy greens like dandelion, collards, spring mix, boo Choy, endive. Make sure to add calcium powder with D3 if no UV bulb was used, but don’t over do it with the D3 as that can make it worse. You can do reptile calcium without d3 and get a UV bulb on it asap to prevent metabolic bone disease
@@NatureInYourFace thank you very much for the reply! I haven’t seen any symptoms pertaining to MBD and I’m getting a vet visit set up (hopefully soon!). I have been feeding the little guy all of the above but he refuses to soak in any capacity and I don’t want to force him to do so for fear of stressing him out, I got him a UV bulb as soon as he got home and I have been using calcium supplementation without D3. He is fairly active and I’ve kept his enclosure within recommended parameters.
Edit: I do have a mister running to keep the humidity around 70-80%

Clint's Reptiles did an episode about iguanas and said how they were one of the worst reptiles to have because of aggression, which I thought was pretty short-sighted. As you said, it depends on the individual iguana and it also requires a lot of socialization.
I'd agree that iguanas don't necessarily make great starter pets, particularly if you don't have time to socialize them but to generalize and say that they make the "worst" pets is simply untrue. We've raised them from hatchlings as well as taken in adults that we've rescued and the majority of them are super sweet. I'm surprised he said that about iguanas. They definitely all have different personalities. Maybe he had a bad experience with one leading him to believe that they're all similar. Thanks for commenting and watching our video!

That is what we are thinking. It has had an X-ray and there’s no sign of injury, just didn’t grow to the size it should. Fortunately it doesn’t affect it and it eats like a pig haha.

No, it is not tender and is covered with a clear scale that feels like the rest of the head. The sensory organ is found underneath that protective cover.

If you mate with a green iguana you’ll mostly get all green iguanas that are het for blue. You’re better off using another blue iguana to produce more blue babies. If some how the green iguana came from a blue iguana, then you might have a chance of getting some blue and some green.

Yes they are all green iguanas. Makes especially get the nice orange colors, but you could find a breeder who produces high orange ones as well. As far as owning one in Canada we really don’t know as we live in the U.S. The orange would cost the same as the green typically but the blue one is more.

Iguana bites can be bad and definitely can get infected if not properly cleaned. Their teeth are serrated and they have powerful jaws. Best to start off with a baby so you can raise it up to be sweet. They are not poisonous.

They're a bit more work compared to your beardies and geckos simply because of their size and the required, arboreal set up. They can also be moody so you have to work with them. The worse thing is raising an iguana to full size but not being able to handle it because it's too aggressive. Now you've got Godzilla in your house and you have to clean his poop every day!!!
Look for a reputable breeder or a local reptile specific store that sells babies that are used to people and being held. Make sure it has a nice fat tail and looks active and not skinny and sleeps all the time.

They can make great and very rewarding pets, but do require a lot of time and handling to get them tame. Just make sure to acquire a healthy one and you shouldn’t have a problem as long as you are patient with it.
a couple years ago i had a green and blue iguana i was like 8 and it didnt live long the blue one did die realy qiuckly but the green one lived a little longer
Iguanas are known to die young, even under "optimal" care. It happens to the best, well intended keepers and no one knows why. The fact is, there's a lot to learn about iguanas in captivity, including their diet, lighting, temp and humidity, etc. We've come a long way but there are still many questions surrounding the "correct" way to keep them. The fact is, no one can completely replicate their wild habitat while owning one in captivity. The proof is seeing one in the wild with its huge dorsal crest, enormous jowls and brilliant orange coloration. Thanks for commenting.

How do I get rid of mouth rot
You can use an over the counter anti-fungal cream and put a small amount on and around the affected areas. Clean the area real good first. Make sure you change the water and don't let any food sit in the food dish. Bacteria in bad food or dirty water can cause a nasty infection. There's something called Vetericyn that you can buy at most pet stores which is supposed to work well.

Males get more of the bright orange color. So females can have orange but not as impressive as the males.

Thanks for your question......female iguanas do not get nearly as big as the males and average between 4 and 5 feet in length. Males can reach 6 feet in length, particularly in the wild, where they can eat a proper diet, soak up the UV from the sun and are not restricted to a small enclosure which can stunt growth. The red coloration does not factor in to size and is nothing more than a color morph. Hope this helps and thanks again for asking!

Whats up.. just Bought a male and a female green iguana off underground reptiles trying to tame them they are skittish at times they are yearlings i can hold them and pet them all over they just become scared when im trying to get them out thier enclosure my female dropped her tail 🤦🏽and at times they just runaway after sitting with me for awhile any advice?
Yo. It’s very possible they were farm raised and therefore might take longer to adapt to their enclosures. Give them time to settle in but let them see you from the enclosure. Try offering food from tongs, especially red and orange foods as that will be more appealing. If they are young the tail will fully grow back. Try just petting with hand or other while they eat. Sometimes forcing them to be handled can do the opposite and they associate it with a negative thing. Food is always a good way to show you are friend not foe.

Just rescued one from the flea market Sunday. Poor fellow very emaciated. I've been feeding it puree with vitamins and reptical. By syringe. As well as fresh veggies sprinkled with the vitamins and reptical. We have him in a 40 gallon tank while we het him healthy. He's still very docile but he finally pooped today and is moving round bit. We also have a larger cage for him. And we are planning on building a 8ftX4ftX6ft tall enclosure. He is presently about 2ft long. He will see his vet (herpetologist) Thursday. Any helpful Ideas to encourage him to eat more? He takes about 3 syringe fulls of food and 1.5 -2 syringeful of water per feeding (2× a day). The syringe is 3ml.
Good job on saving it! They are very color motivated when it comes to food, so if you add any red or yellow fruit or veggies to the salad that might help it eat. Also try getting it outside in the sun. Ours love to go outside and bask and the unfiltered sun can’t be beat. I would also try warm soakings in water for hydration and pooping. Hope this helps.
Ours love Mazuri herbivore diet if you can find that in your area. Mazuri is a zoo grade food pellet that will help it gain weight.
You're doing great from everything I've read. Once he begins to eat on his own I would go on-line and order a bag of Mizzuri herbivore diet. Sprinkle a liberal amount on top of the veggies you feed him and that will get him to put on weight quickly. Although he's emaciated you should be able to get him healthy pretty quick. Again, great job and keep us informed on his progress!
He gets a good tub soaking after his morning feedings. And when it's sunny we put him in his larger cage on the porch. I'm in South Carolina so we're in no short abundance of natural uvb. Plus I make sure to spritz him and his "salads" quite frequently. He seems ro enjoy the spritzing. He closes his eyes and raises up. This is the second iguana I've owned so still novice with them. Have some experience with other legged reptiles. But they were omnivorous. Kept my other guy around for 10 years. Hopefully we get this guy up and about. Hopefully he'll get a clean bill of health from the vet. I've not seen parasites in his poo. And haven't seen any mites when drying him off and looking close. Is the iguana shedding? Sounds strange and without a pic it's hard for us to know if it's an injury, disease or something completely normal. Hey you probably won't respond but I need help they gave me a baby green iguana and I have nothing for it can u list things that are needed? I've searched but it's confusing
Well first you need an escape proof enclosure with door or lid that can be secured shut. An aquarium will work for a baby but eventually it will need a much larger cage. You’ll need a water bowl, branches for climbing as well as a place to hide in. We recommend using coconut coir bedding or aspen as it is safe for reptiles(no pine). They need to be kept warm and a basking spot under a lamp around 90° with air temp at least in the high 70’s. They also require a uvb bulb to act as the sun. As far as food goes dark leafy greens are best; collards, mustard greens, dandelions greens or even spring mix works well. Spring mix does have spinach leaves in it but small amounts are fine so don’t worry about that. They can eat romaine lettuce as well but not as a staple. You can shred carrots, squash, sweet potatoes, flowers(hibiscus, dandelion). They can have fruit as a treat or added to the lettuce but use sparingly. We also use Mazuri herbivore diet pellets as it’s a zoo grade food. You’ll also want to add calcium powder supplements to food a few times a week. Use one with D3 if you don’t have uvb bulb or just calcium if you do have uvb bulb. Hope that helps some. Feel free to ask more specific questions about the care and set up. They key is keeping them warm and feeding a good variety.

No, normal green iguanas have orange and brown pigment which can make them look similar to the red phase color morph. They do look somewhat similar so I can see why you might confuse it for one. Thanks for commenting.

Yes that is true unfortunately. We sat by and let the invasive animals take over without doing anything about it until they are everywhere and a huge problem. It’s sad for the native animals and the non native ones.

Fortunately all three of the lizards in this video are really sweet. Iguana bites are terrible and they can get infected very easily if you're not careful. A face bite does not sound fun!

It really depends on the age of your iguana and how much of it broke. If it’s very young then yes it will fully grow back but will look different from its original. If it’s an adult or even older sub adult it probably will grow a little but will always end in a nub and not a point and never grow full length. Sorry that happened. 😔

I can't get my blue to grow like she should be she's two feet long and I've been having her for 2 years now I'm doing everything right she's just not putting on any real weight. Have you seen this before in iguanas like I said I've been having her over two years now she doesn't show any signs of being sick or anything just won't get chunky
Females tend to be slimmer anyway compared to males. Have you tried Mazuri herbivore diet? It’s used by zoos and our iguanas love the small pellets. It helps them put on weight. You can get it at a local feed store, just ask if they can order it if not in stock.
