Jeez. I can hear Marc talk alllllll day. And sing. I love Mannequin, blue desert, and a hole in the wall. But marina del Rey is such a nostalgic tune for me. I played it nonstop when I was in LA, and it fit right in.
Haven't heard this song in years. Like Marc, "I love it 'till this day." The line "man you gotta get a job" makes the song for me. Huge song in Cali - I ain't never knew the singer was Canadian.
Loved this video and the story behind this song. It's such a weird thing. It's not like Marc Jordan was hugely popular, but this song and also his song Survival are ones I have listened to so often over the years.
That was cool ! I remember the song well, but the caliber of musicians on it ? I was totally unaware of. Thank you for sharing and the knowledge ! ✌ from Utah.
I knew he was Canadian because I first heard this song on CKLW my senior high school year 1979. I guess "Marina Del Rey" sounded better than "Dockweiler State Beach" which was the real name of this area of LA which I flew over the first time I went to Hawaii and was amazed that the beach was deserted on a beautiful Wednesday in September at 12 PM
Hi Marc: Really interesting spot on one of my favourite tunes of my youth. I heard some of the players from Toto were on it but did not know about Donald Fagan or Jimmy Buffets Marimba player. Marina Del Rey reminds me of those carefree summer days! This tune is perfect for Sirius Radio's Yacht Rock station. Can someone encourage them to pick it up?.
I want to hear more stories from this guy. Left us hanging with what the reason was he would not swim after Telly. Maybe the yellow speedo was so off-putting that he decided it was better to do something else.
I think I know. I was too young back then, but I know a lot of dudes who were around in LA. Based on their reports, he was probably f*ckup on drugs & alcohol and it freaked him out.

Infectious song. Loved it every time it came on the radio.
I love hearing you share this memory when I go to see you in concert. This was one of my favourite albums of all time.
great song and artist . One of my favorite songs ever!

Great song , brings back fond memories .
I absolutely love this song. My favourite when it came out
Love the Telly Savalas story. Not gonna swim after that, think I’ll go write a hit song. Classic. 🤣
What a song and what a record. Masterpiece from the summer of '78.
Love this entire Lp. MJ's catalogue is phenomenal.
Marc's wife is Canadian singer-songwriter Amy Sky..who's written for Olivia Newton john and others
There's lots of memories awesome song. He's such a great storyteller. Looks a bit like a mad scientist.
just discovered this series......great stories and players

His cd Reckless Valentine is amazing. No one does romantic regret like Marc.

I laughed and thought maybe Anheuser Busch should buy it and rename it "BUDWEISER STATE BEACH" to drum up some business lol

I just learned from this that "Marina Del Rey" is Marc Jordan's "Carefree Highway", due to the road sign.
My fav song by him is Margarita
Jordan’s name dropping like crazy here, impressive

Maybe the Speedo was yellow for a reason.
Who loves ya baby? Marc does when you aren't so scantily clad.
What do Toto, Don Fagen and Marc Jordan have in common?
Haircut ?
Give him a break, he’s a genius !
“Welcome to LensCrafters.”
“Hi, I need glasses that make me look like an old weirdo.”
“Say no more!”
"Nice hair, Did we Wake You??"
LOL
