Very meticulous build and attention to detail. There are much simpler builds but for the avid woodworker which you appear to be, excellent work. Enjoyed watching.
Anyone watching this and wondering how it's held in place without springs: He uses a scrap piece of wood to temporarily hold it up. Watch from 21:58 onwards.
Hello. Your design is very good. Have you added a spring inside the part where the drill is installed to keep the mechanism up? I didn't see it in the video. but the mechanism remains above. If there was no spring, the drill would have to come down with its weight.
Awesome drill press. I know you replied to another person regarding the drill coming down with its own weight. It seems to be spring-loaded somehow and I don’t see that step in the video or in your comments on the video. Can you please explain? Really enjoy your work!!
Great modular design. It is good to have the sliding part built separately from the column. One question, are drawer slides accurate enough? Typically to slide smoothly, they need to stay a bit loose. That would introduce some play and could make less accurate. Right?
Hello, honestly I have problems with this build. The drawer slides are holding pretty well. There is no space for any movement, they don't "wiggle". Next time I would probably use better slides (quality slides), but after having this drill stand for a few years now, I've had no issues.
Hello, there is no spring in this build. I push and pull the drill manually. The drill is quite light, so there is not much of a problem but having a spring is definitely a good point. I am planning on making another improved build with a spring included. Thanks!
Hola Diego, muchas gracias. Me alegro que le guste. La verdad es que la maquina si misma es simple. No hay nada de elevación automática, régla de medición pero como ha salido muy precisa. Estoy muy contento de eso. Gracias y saludos a Medellín. 🙂
@@AllFlavorWorkshop aha ... clear. would it be very hard to add a tensioning system to this design ? I first have to build a track saw guide. Once that is done I am having a go at this drill press.
@@pdemaers Hi Patrick, I gave it a thought and I have few ideas. I think it would be possible. Just to make sure the tension is applied equally and the drill press wont get skewed when pushed down. I am also planning on creating a new version of this drill press with the tensioning system included. So hopefully soon ;)
Hi Henry, indeed, there is no spring. The drill press sits on the table. That could be a good improvement though. I dont find it necessary. atm. I am using a lightweight drill and there is really not much weight you need to hold.

Hello Donald, this drill press does not have a spring. I am holding the drill press manually (the drill is quite light, so there's no problem). When not used I support the base with a plywood strip. Although for my next builds I plan to make one with a spring included.

Hello, there is no spring in this build. I am pulling the drill back up manually. I could see this might be an issue with a heavy drill but this one is quite light. Anyway, a spring would do also fine. I have been thinking about making another build with a spring included. 👍
Hello Fati, thank you for the support. I appreciate it. I 'm making the plans one by one, hopefully soon for this built. Just a little more, please bear with me.

Building stand is very nice and neet, but without using any spring, how can a drill machine withstand in the middle or top. It is impossible as due to weight of the machine, sliding door go down upto bottom and no chance of uplift. Can u pl answer how a sliding door withstand in the middle or top?
Hi Chakrapani, true. This is a basic version of a drill stand. No springs, no rulers for measurements - though excellent precision . I most likely will be making an upgraded one with all the nice add-ons. If not used it always goes down. I am using a supporting piece of plywood to keep it in an up position to change the drill bits.
