Talib was huge in the five Burroughs. I was raised in Yonkers where we had our own stars blowing up in the hood. Now I get to appreciate them all over again.
You described hip hop in one word, two different times, different words though. One being " Beautiful" and the other, "Nostalgia." No other genre compares to the hip genre because hip hop is all encompassing.
That whole Train Of Thought album is fire. My favorite tracks from there are this one, This Means You, Too Late, Africa Dream, Good Mourning, and the Expansion Outro. If you don't react to any other Kweli song then you have to do Get By with the beat by Kanye. It has one of the best Nina Simone samples you'll ever hear.
HEy Ahmad, you commentary sounds like the words that Pete Rock said in an interview. ------ When asked about what led him to music, He said it was his pops plsying classic 70's track to him as a kids and enticing him to like the vibe, intensity and subtile nature of soul music. ----- You definitely have that in you. ------ Love this reaction and the way you broke down why you were feeling this beat, flow and lyrical approach by Reflection Eternal. Keep up the great work.
I remember watching on MTV's The Lick hosted by Trevor Nelson. First time I ever heard Talib Kweli rap and didn't even know that was Mos Def making the cameo in the beginning
What!!!!! Dam bro this shit wa son heavy rotation on MTV and BET and th BOX!!!! Crazy!!!! That’s when real hip hop was breaking!!! Yeah HI-tek got a few dope albums to check out!!!
The brilliance of this entire album cannot be overstated. The first Hi-Teknology album that features a bunch of other artists is great as well. Listening to “The Sun God” with Common from that album in a jeep in the middle of summer is one of the tracks that made me realize just how much I love hip-hop
This is such a classic track. It gets me nostalgic too, but for my early 20’s riding with my people just vibing! Tracks like this and Ms Fat Booty from Mos Def, and any Wu-Tang at all had us noddin our heads while passing that thing round the car!!! 😂
This one those track u remember I remember my older cousins playing this at partys when i was young this was a hit from talib ina early 2000s it had Brooklyn on lock 🔥🔥🔥
Remember back in the day when this dropped at the hip hop clubs, this was one of the songs people would want to dance to in the circle. Still such a banger!! Happy you got a chance to react to this!
You should give Reflection Eternal the Black on Both Sides Treatment. It's got every possible guest spot from Gil Scot Herron to Dave Chappelle. I wore out more than one copy of that disc.
I have to say Ahmad, you are reacting to some amazing underground hip-hop from my era...means a lot that you give your honest opinion on everything...love Everything you do and keep it up man!!! ALWAYS look forward to your reactions!!!!
I know what you mean man. This song makes me also think about the past when i used to live with my family in our old run down aoartnent 😅. I lowkey tear up listening to this song sometimes
I was all in on Rawkus right around the turn of the century, Black Star, Company Flow, Lyricist Lounge etc. May I suggest Pete Rock and CL Smooth - They Reminisce Over You (T.R.O.Y) a beautiful classic track that embodies the essence of hip hop.
This whole album deserves a review…Train of Thought is a masterpiece

I remember watching on MTV's The Lick hosted by Trevor Nelson. First time I ever heard Talib Kweli rap and didn't even know that was Mos Def making the cameo in the beginning
