Hey Pixel Dan. I'm so glad for you my friend. You are the greatest and you deserve to have that masterpiece of toy collecting in your awesome MOTU collection. It's a plus when you have great friends looking out for you and your collection. That's a sweet piece to have if you're a MOTU superfan like we are. I'm happy for you man. Thanks for sharing your happiness with us, your fans. 👍🏻🙏🏼
Wow! 500 for both was a really good Deal. For the gold paint on Skeletors face...maybe It's acrylic based, so try just warm water and a cotton swab or Isopropanol.
Dude!!! Great placement in the collection room! Once again, I am super happy that it went to you. Had a blast this weekend brother, I’m sure I’ll see ya in September 😀
Awesome piece!! I had one of these toyboxes as a kid, but unfortunately didn't have the foresight to keep a hold of it. So glad you have one and shared it! Nice bit of nostalgia! Thanks!!! And to answer your question, the buzzed cut is a good look on you!
NOW THAT'S WHAT I CALL, A VINTAGE MOTU TREASURE CHEST BOX WORTH KEEPING! CONGRATULATIONS! YOU EARN IT PIXEL DAN FOR BEING A VERY COOL GUY! THANKS FOR SHARING YOUR STORY AND A LITTLE HISTORY ABOUT IT!
I had that toy box as a kid. It was everything to do me. I don't think I even asked for it and just got it for Christmas because my parents wanted a place for me to put my toys.
If it happens to be acrylic paint, you could try holding a cloth with some very hot water on it against it (tap water should be hot enough) and it should start to come off. I doubt a kiddo would think to seal the paint after painting over skeletors face. Glad you got a grail piece :)
Due to my obsession with just about all things Hot Wheels and Matchbox, I largely missed out on the MOTU toy line... So after I freaked out wanting everything MOTU that existed (🤣) my aunt and her husband told my dad to come over and bring the van. When he returned, he had this toybox and Castle Grayskull, and the toybox was filled with MOTU figures. After a couple of years of 8 kids dragging MOTU toys all over the house, my aunt was glad to get rid of it all. I went on to play with my sudden MOTU collection until there wasn't a speck of paint left on them, then handed them over to another kid in the neighborhood who pretty much finished them off. I think MOTU and TMNT were two toy lines that had that fate, they were hand-me-down toys until they were just demolished from play wear. I literally seen them at every yard sale, garage sale, flea market and thrift store for almost ten years. These toys were so loved that they were passed around to three or four children before being sold for 25¢ and played with again... And I'm regrowing my collection all new again, over 30 years later. I'm glad to see the fan base is still thriving, those days were truly magical for us.
This is amazing. And yes, I agree! When I was a kid and done with my MOTU, I sold my whole collection save for a few figures in a yard sale. With my TMNT, when my brother and I outgrew them, my mom gave all of ours to a family down the street. So you are totally right.
That’s such a good piece to have in your collection! The art work is amazing! It’s pretty cool to have friends looking out for you like that too! They really don’t make stuff like that anymore. Really awesome video!
We had one of those toyboxes and the art was amazing. For the paint -- without knowing exactly what kind it is -- it's hard to guess. But my memory is those were on presswood and the artwork is probably a silkscreen printing sort of layered deal. So for that gold paint I'd recommend starting off with fingernail polish remover -- not pure acetone but the stuff toned down for regular daily use and dab at the gold paint with a q-tip to see if it pulls it off and if so tread very slowly. Keep a damp sponge or rag nearby to wipe down and remove any lingering acetone so it can't seep down into the art and go very slowly in sections over a few days. that way if there is any reaction to the acetone you know immediately without completely wrecking the original art underneath. Hope this helps.
Ah, man, this one stung to watch! I sold my toybox to a local store years ago...for $100. *Whomp, whomp* Probably one of my biggest mistakes as a toy collector, but I'm so happy you have one in your collection!
That's probably all you could get for it at the time. MOTU collecting is likely at its peak now and so prices now are probably as high as they will ever be (relative to the value of the dollar of course.) All of us who had these toys as kids are now in our proverbial "mid-life crises" and craving the nostalgia of our youth. Eventually, the prices of all this stuff will probably collapse, just like baseball cards and comics.
@@brushstroke3733 oh, definitely! Origins and Masterverse weren't at retail, MOTU was nowhere near as high in the Zeitgeist as it is now! There were a lot of personal reasons for it. It was just wasting away in the cellar, and a hard sneeze away from falling apart. And ironically, I felt I needed to get rid of my childhood toys before I dove into adult collecting.
I'd go watch some art restorers or contact some to get some information. If you can find out what the gold paint base is and what the original paint base, you can figure out a plan to slowly lift out the gold paint.
Wow awesome piece to your collection. I hope to find out myself someday just to tell you I’m on my way to the Dallas, G.I. Joe action figure show right now as we speak. I look forward to see you again!

Hey man, I always used to watch your TMNT toy reviews and I was wondering if you will review the upcoming Mutant Mayhem Figures, whenever you get your hands on them.
Talk to an art restoration expert (or find a video on RUclips) about how to remove that gold paint on Skeletor's face without removing his paint as well. It might be a tedious process, but I'm almost sure it can be done. (Like restoring DaVinci's "The Last Supper" to his original colors.) You might try using lighter fluid on the gold paint stripe and see if that works, but I am no expert!
Only Dan can command other RUclipsrs to hand deliver HeMan product from across the country and like it. You the man Dan 🤘
