    As a long time fan of the series and lore that authors like Drew Karpyshyn and others made. It’s so frustrating to hear someone like yourself which takes a look ta a game like origins and don’t give it any credit it deserves.
    You say you disliked origins because the combat and slow pacing of the game, yet that was the entire point. It’s a spiritual successor of the baldurs gates games in the early action game era. It’s almost like complaining that super Mario on nes just doesn’t isn’t worth it because of the graphics, when at the time that was peak technology.
    Either way it’s baffling to me that people will come into this series and say yeah I hated the first three games and never played them that much but you should trust me that this game is a good dragon age game.

    • @SagaOfDoom
      @SagaOfDoom 24 дня назад

      He didn't say he disliked Origins combat, he just states DA has always been sorta "niche" and the following games never did figure out exactly what they want to do with the combat in particular. That's just an objectively true statement. Origins is easily one of my favorite RPGs of all time but it definitely lacked in the combat, in MY opinion, but so does BG3 etc. Those games were not fun because of their combat I'll just leave it that

    • @SagaOfDoom
      @SagaOfDoom 24 дня назад

      This is why gaming reviews and people that put way too much emphasis on them is so bad. People exaggerate what they're even saying to begin with. No where in this video, not a single time, did he say he hated the other DA games. Matter of fact he deliberately states this DA is weaker in some elements that the others excel in. You watched his take on the combat, barely listened to what he said, left a comment then bounced.

    • @Gryffisnmore
      @Gryffisnmore 24 дня назад +1

      @@SagaOfDoom 1) You're absolutely correct he didn't say he disliked origins combat he just heavily implied it by calling it weird and bad and then proceeded to talk about how this combat is the best in the series while still saying that its only really a slight bit better than Hogwarts Legacy. ( I cant tell if that means good or not since he never really says its good just better than the other games).
      2) I don't know what rock you both were under but objectively the Dragon age series including origins is definitely not a niche or even sorta niche, it came out to critical acclaim it was Biowares largest selling entity at one point and I think it still is, third party books aren't written about niche video games, You actually are just wrong about this one.
      3) You are right about them changing the combat from game to game but that has been a huge criticism from fans already and doesn't prove your point like you think since even though this game did do well in sales, it definitely isn't being called the game of the decade like BG3 (you know that apparently "not fun" top down/ isometric approach to combat is just apart of one of the best games of the decades).
      4) I respect that you can say personally you just don't care for the combat system in games like origins and BG3 but that is not what this video is saying and that's not how you started off, some things are objectively true like they have changed the combat in every game, but to then say because the other games were objectively worse and niche is quite literally not backed up by any fact. not to mention that is what he is doing in this entire video while complaining that others are being biased and not understanding. As an example he complains about reviewers but then uses Asmongold as his proof? like c'mon he isn't even a reviewer and is literally just there for clickbait shit. Sure there are people who hate the game because wokeness but there's also reviews like Fextralife and Skill ups, Hell even Mortisamal gaming. To me it sounds like he is complaining about the echo-chamber he has surrounded himself in and is now the only evidence he is arguing against.
      All of this is to say I don't care what his opinions on the game are, I care that he portrays them as objective fact and that others are being biased while he clearly is as well. Love the game all you want just don't hate on others because they disagree with your supposed objective facts.

  • @takeyourtime3328

    Oooh dear....where should I start?
    1. The argument that many people worked on this game is bad one. What matters is the quality at the end. You also don't have to be a porgrammer or designer to criticise games. You as (potential) consumer or fan have the right to dislike the game for what it is no matte rif you a plumer or game designer.
    2."Dragon Age was never massive appealing game" This is nonsense. Dragon Age: Inquistion sold more than 10 Million copies.
    3. "I don't care about dialogs or story". What a thing to say when story and dialogs are the two main parts of the series and in general RPG games.
    4. "The characters were always weird looking". The reason for that was technical limitations for the most part. What people don't like is not the technical part but the art style: characters look like Marvel/Pixar inspired characters with big heads and comic like.
    5. "Why is it bad to have campaigns wheel?". That is not the critque point. The criticism is to have a compaign wheel AND not able to control your characters so you can't checkout different classes. I mean your team mates don't even have health bars and don't die.
    6. The wheel to chosse "Gender Identity" options. Yes, that menu doesn't allow to chosse anything but transgender related despite the menu name "Gender Identitiy" options". The description even says that lol. What about non-binary, agender, man, women etc. There are so many genders. They don't provide you these options specifically but only the option "decline transgender".
    7. "Reptetive combat, but other games have also repetetive combat" No, many other RPG games don't have reptitive combat like DA:V has and that's because for different reasons: You can't control your team mates which decreases the variety in combat, the enemies have a small number of attack patterns, the wide range weapon/sattacks have no advantages, etc. That's not a mistery as you claimed but the lack of understanding from your side.
    8. "If someone says the game is ugly they just don't know what beatiful is". Again you don't understand the difference between artstyle and technical design. What many people dislike is the artstyle (comic like art style, big heads, mobile phone game style for the hud, overusage of the color purple etc) not the technical part (polycont, well detailed characters,, hair physics etc)
    Now just look how many negative things you listed about the game: Story, dialog, no ambient sound effects, overpowered and repetitive combat. On the positive side you mentioned exploration, graphics and icons look great. BTW Final Fantasy 16 has bad exploration options so it doesn't make DA:V exploration great or good with the linear and gamy level design. So overall you mentioned much more negative stuff in the core elements of a RPG and/or story driven game but you still claim it's the best DA game.
    Your whole video lacks of knowledge and understanding about gameplay, character design and the series. What a bad take...

      1. Yes, but without playing the game, you don’t know what it is. On top of that, if you are making videos for your many viewers who want to jump on criticism and ruin some franchise, that’s wrong. Nobody says you have to buy it. Also, memories of previous Dragon Age games seem better than they actually were.
      2. Compared to AC Black Flag, which was released the year before if I remember correctly, sold 15 million. The Witcher 3 sold 50 million, and Fallout 4 sold 25 million, and so on. So it was popular, but not as much as others.
      3.Well, if you go back and try the dialogue again in previous Dragon Age games, they were bad before as well, if you ask me.
      4.Yes, again, go and look. Compared to the games released at that time, Dragon Age characters look like they are made of plastic and are being animated by someone, like toys in Toy Story. Both body and facial movements, as well as stylistically, are lacking. Vanguard characters don’t look like they belong in Pixar movies, go check Pixar movies.
      5. Do you really want your AI teammate to have an HP bar? Do you UNIRONICALLY want to press a key to revive them every now and then? Come on now...
      7. What do you mean by you can’t control your teammates? You can control your teammates abilities like in other DA or Mass Effect games you have the wrong information. I feel like you haven’t played the game. A small number of attacks? Warhammer 40k, which is praised for superb combat, has more than a few enemy attacks? Do you want to go and count? Or enemy types? Lol.
      8. No, I understand the visuals perfectly in this game, and I’m not talking about the technical side. The artistic visuals, lighting, and so on are very good.

      @SagaOfDoom What about Taash, Asmon barely played couple of hours, I've played the whole game. Taash whole story and side quests are about her feelings and gender. It's same with STALKER 2 man. Most reviewers never played the original trilogy and yet, they are complaining about the things that were always included in the older games. Nobody takes reviewers seriously, if people like some game they will play it. In just 4 days sold more copies then Veilguard and that is just on Steam.

      @LoneWolfFromEast Asmon played the whole game on week 1 and gave it a 7/10. So idk what you're on about. Good thing you can harden her character, cause I hate her personality anyway. Hardening her btw makes her not a tranny. Lest we forget, Krem was all about her gender as well. Not every companion is gonna be grand (Merril?)
      Copies sold we don't actually know yet, but I wouldn't care regardless. When you have a game that receives this much hate based on woke stuff 12 days before launch it's gonna effect sales. There's a reason why the vast majority of positive reviews are all from people who played it past hour 8. Mass hatred for the "woke" shit that they either did or didn't know you can virtually avoid killed the sales. Is what it is. Doesn't change how I view the game.

      No matter who says what, players like you always complain. To know if game is good or not, you need to make comparisons. I'm not a huge fan of Dragon Age, but I've played all of them, and to say the other Dragon Age games were better compared to The Veilguard is just ridiculous.
      When I say you should consider the effort put into making this or any game, that's a very valid point. As a solo developer, it would take five lifetimes to make a game like this, it’s a tremendous group effort and people shouldn’t criticize it based on less than an hour of gameplay or, even worse, just by watching a compressed YT video from someone who hasn’t played the game because they didn’t get a review key.

No big deal.
    Still, I'm in the camp that wants to see everyone feel like they can RP a character that looks and feels like their idealized self. So I love the DEI awareness overall that's coming to gaming 100%. But I think it was an odd game-design choice in this game to put some of the LGBTQ stuff I've seen so far in here. Again, not b/c I have a problem with it - I don't at all - but b/c it just seems so unnaturally forced. Doesn't advance any character or add depth. Doesn't advance the narrative. Just added random extra words to check a box. And I think this is people's main issue with the so-called "woke" agenda -- the lack of authenticity. I want to see more inclusion in games, including racial, gender, and LGBTQ. But if it's inauthentic like this, just forget it, bc it does more harm than good...

    The best thing about this game, is the optimization... which should be a given considering the game has been in development for almost 10 years.
    Level design and set pieces are looking great, lighting is also pretty good.
    Combat is okay-ish, tried to mimic god of war, but nothing to write home about when all you gotta do is basically roll your face on the keyboard and keep moving forward.
    Character creation is OVERBLOWN. The only good thing in the character creation is the head part where you can actually make unique faces according to your likings... But the body modification is a joke. Height is also a joke, tried to make the most tall and buff human i could... and he looks like a halfling twink, you really can't make this ish up.
    Party members got no health bar and they are basically ghosts with zero presence since everyone just attacks you, you can't use them or issue them actual specific orders except for using a couple of skills... what the actual f.?
    Dialogues are deceivingly OKAYISH for the first couple of hours or so... then they quickly and progressively get dumbed down and start diving into current day california territory. Writing is utter trash and breaks immersion every time.... we are in Thedas... trying to deal with some freaking world ending events and my companions first world problems are apparently their pronouns, non-binarism and how it sucks to not feel comfortable in your own skin... Y I K E S.
    Art style (characters and enemies) is anything but dragon age... they look like they came out of a Pixar movie and is extremely goofy and off putting if you take the setting of the story into consideration.
    Final pet peeve, i don't need the game to hold my hand, spoon feed me or treat me like a toddler. Doesn't matter if you are in your early teens or you are a full blown adult, this is extremely patronizing, i don't want to play a game that patronizes me, i am playing games for escapism, bringing all that current day bs along with a patronizing behavior, makes me believe you think of all your customers as brain damaged individuals.
    I'd summarize this game as "Identifies as Dragon age"

      @@redletterl78 here’s my full review to help you understand my perspective
      my thoughts after 20 hours:
      -environments are beautiful
      -Don’t love the change in art style, especially the almost-cartoony character designs; would prefer a more grounded, darker, grittier, visual tone (and tone overall tbh).
      -Combat is more satisfying to play that it is to watch. That said, I can see it getting stale into the later hours and I already have concerns about enemy variety. Combat can also feel a little floaty, like I’m not really _connecting_ with the enemies sometimes.
      -Skill animations are pretty, but can cause too much visual clutter. Sometimes I lose track of what enemies are actually _doing_
      -I don’t like all the looting, especially for tiny amounts of money and crafting materials. Wish exploring for treasure felt more exciting and rewarding, instead it just feels like a chore because I have FOMO
      -Weapons, armor, loadout options feel impactful and varied. Designs look distinctive and lend a sense of character…I love the transmog too!
      -As good of a character creator as you could hope for. Lots of options. Hair in particular just looks fantastic (maybe best I’ve seen). Could maybe use some more variety in the voices, but understandable considering the game is fully voiced.
      -Ditto for the skill trees, Player char and companions. Will be fun to experiment more.
      -Musical score is serviceable but ultimately forgettable. None of the songs will stick in my head (I compare to something like FF16, where I want to go add themes to my Spotify playlist 😅)
      -Overall story is fine so far, but wish storytelling was more nuanced…I.e. more “show” and less “tell”
      -Dialogue is the weakest point of the game. Voice acting is good, even great at times; I’m really criticizing the writing itself. While there are some exceptions, conversations tend to feel stiff, forced, and struggle to maintain a logical flow, which unfortunately can be immersion-breaking for me at times. Larger plot sequences are handled with a bit more grace, but I find myself struggling to enjoy the more routine dialogues, companion dialogues, etc.
      -Specifially want to call out the player character dialogue options because they either a) don’t offer the option I’d prefer or b) have little to no impact (outside of obvious, required critical choices). I feel railroaded. Like it or not, after the freedom I experienced in BG3, it’s going to be hard for any RPG not to draw comparisons.
      -Performance is excellent on PS5. No notes here. Stating again: the game is gorgeous, any way you slice it.
      My hopes for this one were high, but this game fell a bit short imo. While aspects of the game are excellent, my last couple points of criticism, combined with elements that were just okay combine to a final score of:
      6/10

    You're almost treating it as if this game was a present to us all that they didn't get paid for and are giving to us for free and we are being meanies about it. The truth is people paid 70 or 80 bucks and waited for 10 years and feel like they got duped by the studio.

There's gameplay u can see and understand how it plays and what it's gonna be. What the game shows u that's what it is. I'm not even gonna talk about the Trans stuff. We tryna save people money and time. Plus I think we should be looking at journalst rather than RUclips reviewers. 10 and 9s with all it's issues that yourself even listed. All the praise just cause u can be a Trans character. Makes me so upset what they did to the franchise. You are probably the first reviewers that don't have a problem with the character visuals. Thats interesting I can't look at the qunary. Good take and good review.

    What I find interesting or really annoying in this game that it has almost everything in purple color. So its background, mini map, tactical screen, pride demon the antivan crows at 6:20 (heck even that chair is purple)
    Outfits look amazing I'm just sick of seeing the same color over and over again.
    The game looks visually beautiful and past Dragon age games were bland in that field but that's why they had a good story, character interactions etc..
    This new Veilguard is all about the looks and no brains apparently.

    I agree about gameplay, you cannot judge gameplay without playing it. However, some things like the tone are easy to judge and I personally decided this isn't a game I want to play as I enjoyed the drak/gritty elements of DA:O. I feel disappointed that this is the way they took the DA franchise but no hate for the game or the creators.
    Another important thing - yes a lot of work was put into this game and you should be fair in your critic, but this isn't your friends this is a company selling you a product. As a costumer you judge a product by the perceived value. If you go to a restaurant and the food isn't to your liking would you continue going over and recommend it to your friends just because the cheff worked so hard? No you wouldn't. Why are video games any different?

    • @iROHxo
      @iROHxo  Месяц назад +1

      I agree with the first part of the comment but not the second, and I’ll explain why. Making food in a restaurant doesn’t take 5+ years, hundreds of talented people, huge investments, or a large group effort. When you have all of these factors involved, you also need massive coordination, management and most importantly, you’re taking on significant risk. The issue here is that yes you can say, 'I don’t like this meal' and choose not to return or recommend the restaurant to friends. But in gaming, people collectively create videos to basically damage a game and a company, often based on whims or personal expectations that weren’t met. or even worse like now, unfairly criticizing a game just because they didn’t get an early review key.
      Personally, I might have also preferred Origins dark or even darker and more horror like fantasy setting. But ultimately, gaming is a gift, and sometimes I can’t believe these teams manage to create such massive projects.

    • @ethanfetaya
      @ethanfetaya Месяц назад

      @@iROHxo First we both agree that your criticism should be fair. However, when they attached the DA IP to this product they did that to increase sales as it connects to previously beloved games. As such, judging it according to these expectations is fair as they are the ones that introduced these expectations when they called it dragon age.
      Regarding the restaurant example, you are missing the point so lets go with another example - cars take years to design and a huge team effort. Would you buy a subpar car just because the team worked hard? No. You would judge what car is best and go by that.
      Making some assumptions here but I think that because the devs gave you a great experience you feel connected to them and that is why you value their effort. However, this isn't between you and the dev, this is between you and a multi-billion dollar corporation that wants your money. EA, and most big corporations don't give a **** about you as a costumer or about the devs as works, they only care about their bottom line (as the recent layoffs showed). It makes as much sense to defend this game just because the devs worked hard as it is to defend a car manufacturer the designed a crappy car just because the engineers worked hard.
      You should buy a game if you think it is worth your time and money. Work put into it shouldn't be a factor.

    • @iROHxo
      @iROHxo  Месяц назад

      @@ethanfetaya 1. So you think this game is so different from Dragon Age that it shouldn't even have that name? You haven't played it, right?
      2.Even if it’s cars, cars are not as culturally impactful and sensitive as games, but okay, I understand your point.
      3. Well, what is now known as big corporations like EA and Ubisoft were once just mid-sized development companies. For some reason without 'going into the details' like big tech companies, they hired a lot of people for little reasons, and when they laid them off, it looked like they cared more about themselves than about the developers. Making games is very expensive, even for big corporations, and these corporations are owned by multiple investment firms asking for returns. It’s very hard to balance everything between expectations, culture, current trends, someone’s memories, competition, timing, and investors. Yes, you don’t have to feel pity for them, I don’t feel pity either. If they don’t listen to gamers, they should not make any sales. But my point was about unfair criticism, and not just criticism, but a coordinated attack, which can have a significant impact on a company and funniest thing is game is not bad at all even compared to other RPG's released in recent years.

I am not a fan of that and Its only fair the blowback happens. In the end everybody loose, especially fans of the franchise, sadly.
    Also I dont agree with your opinion that Masseffect and Dragon age being wierd and niche, because they are regarded as one of the best games in RPG genre by many.
    The repetitive combat has been a thing since Inquisitions spongy enemies and combat design. I dont really like that aspect compared to the previous 2 games.
    Graphics and stylistics are good enough for rpg however, the female characters designs are indeed ESG standardized and corporate since Inquisition. This time, looks like even more so, corporate, censored, disabled, diverse and child friendly meanwhile the rating of the game is 17+ and legacy being realisitc dark fantasy. 10 hours in:
    -environments are beautiful
    -Don’t love the change in art style, especially the almost-cartoony character designs; would prefer a more grounded, darker, grittier, visual tone (and tone overall tbh)
    -Combat is more satisfying to play that it is to watch. That said, I can see it getting stale into the later hours and I already have concerns about enemy variety.
Voice acting is decent, I’m really criticizing the writing itself. While there are some exceptions, conversations tend to feel stiff, forced, and struggle to maintain a logical flow at times. I also haven’t been thrilled with the player character dialogue options because they either a) don’t offer the option I’d prefer or b) have little to no impact (outside of obvious, required critical choices). I feel railroaded. Unfortunately for me, this is totally immersion-breaking and really hurts the final score of…

    This game is great. It is a different Dragon Age, as every other installment of this series was. This one is as good as any of the previous (if not better). There are two main reasons for all these cry babies spending their entire days talking b_s about this game: 1 - anti-woke stupidity (yeah, for these little snowflakes, if you have few OPTIONAL dialogues/quest and an OPTION to role play as a trans person, their masculinity is automatically being oppressed), and 2 - the lack of something better to do. These people could be ignoring Veilguard and playing Dragon Age Origins right now (since they wanted a duplicate of this game), but attacking something that other people like is more important for them than playing a game that they supposedly love so much. And you are totally right: just as there are aspects that Veilguard implements worse than previous game (like the lack of a darker tone ), there is a lot of things Veilguard does better, but the nolstalgia and ideology of many hide this fact or belittle it in every analysis they make.

      If the people writing these (Most likely self insert) lgbt characters had any semblance of skill and wrote them with any sense of nuance it would be a completely different story. But instead the players of an M rated game about gods wanting to destroy the planet get preached like they’re elementary school children
      Not to mention the Disney Channel dialogue. Tell me why after a slight setback. I had to have a pep talk with my team and say “we can do this if we all work together”

      You can’t control your party members anymore, you can’t use the tactics to customize what your party members did and when they did it. The choices you made in the previous games just don’t matter anymore and that was one of the best parts about dragon age. The series was built on your choices mattering through them all and when it came to the finale of that story they just..left practically all of it out. A ton of the depth and systems are straight up gone.

      We live in complicated times where, too often, whoever speaks first is seen as telling the truth, regardless of what they say. People seem to have lost the ability to think independently. But at least now we can see more clearly who is who, for example like you said on Steam, we can check how many hours a player has spent on a game before criticizing or praising it.

    This review isnt anything new...You are the 10000th person to say the dialogue and writing is utter garbage but its pretty and has good gameplay. This game was made for children, which makes the forced trans ideological messaging even more egregious. They literally changed the tone and gameplay of this game to target a young / immature audience and then filled it with forced trans ideology you cant skip. No one would of complained about having a non binary character in the game, or gay relationships...Cyberpunk and BG3 did it just fine. What people complain about is the forced messaging you have to agree with that is not skippable and is not a small part of the story. The game lead just self inserted into the game to air their grievances and we have to pay the price for it...well, you, I would never buy this game. On top of that EA and large journalists colluded to get more people to buy this game under false pretenses. Now that they have gotten away with skewing reviews, withholding information they will do it again and worse than this time. There is a much bigger problem with this whole situation than "omgerd gays in the game" ... Theres indoctrination and market manipulation like we have never seen before...and this was a litmus test to see how far they could push and get away with it. Everyone is ok with how things are going until it finally pushes past where they are comfortable...some sooner than later but it always goes further and further...so you might be ok now, then next time its past where you are comfortable...and youll wonder how it got here. People that gave crap like this a pass this time is how it got there.

    2 minutes in and you're already way over most people's heads when talking about project management and finance, these people don't understand development or care, they think these things are simple and easy, and don't appreciate the effort and art put into these games. That's why it's easy for them to say "oh it looks like Pixar" when there's not a single Pixar movie that even has proportional characters. People saying they don't care if the combat is good or not are in the vast minority whether they realize it or not. Aside from a very few select games, most people do not take story over gameplay, we play games to PLAY them. There's a reason why every DA game had shaky releases and never hit mass popularity like Mass Effect, it's because Mass Effect is actually fun for people.

      Well, it's very sad that people don't appreciate the effort that goes into creating games, whether it's this one or any other. Gaming, in general, is a gift.
      The problem is that because of this negativity, many companies may shut down, and aspiring developers who want to start creating games might never make a step, seeing how people prefer to tear down games and criticize rather than actually enjoy them is very sad.
      My suggestion to those people is this: if you remember another game as being better, just play it again, and you’ll quickly realize it’s often just nostalgia. One example is NFS Most Wanted, when people say it's the best NFS game... just play it again, buddy.

      Mass Effect 1 had lackluster gameplay.. Matter of fact, it wasn't really till the 3rd entry that gameplay was somewhat cohesive and flowed nicely. Mass Effect had wide appeal, cause it was simply a great game, with incredible world building, character writing and innovation (At the time) in the industry, that being your progress carrying over to 2 other promised sequels. Sure NOWADAYS the vocal majority care a lot more about the "gameplay" (Which I guess means combat to most people, even though I'd argue engaging in dialogue and exploration or engaging in any game system a game has, aside from cutscenes is gameplay?..), but it was not always this way. I'm happy for you, that you enjoy the game, but you're reaching a bit on the Mass Effect bit.

      I play games for good gameplay, simple as that. If i want really good writing i read a book from an author i like. Im having a really good time with veilguard. The combat is so addictive. Graphics, as in resolution, isn't that impressive, but the actual locations and sense of space are great. Im just about 60 and just so tired of these anti woke muppets. Great video mate, agree with a lot of your points.

      @@mathiaschristensen1194 yeah no one liked Mass Effect's gameplay until the 3rd game sure whatever you need to tell yourself. Also most people would not agree that standing and doing dialogue trees over and over is gameplay, if they did we would consider any form of speaking in such a manner to be a "game" but we do not, societally, as humans, anywhere on the planet. There's a reason why games that ONLY have dialogue trees like this are called "visual novels"
