My grandpa used to sing this song to me when I was a baby. He's already been gone longer than I knew him, and can't help but shed a few tears when I listen. Especially because that's how he used to sound when he sang.
Lived where the Mountains of Mourne sweep down to the sea. For a few years. SO beautiful. Often went to the Percy French pub for a pint after walking the two hours along the beach from Murlough Dundrum to Newcastle.
A wonderful IRISH ballad --- sung with great sensitivity and feeling by the always brilliant, and forever great vocalist Finbar Furey ---- LOVE ❤️ Evelyn O'Connor
This is home. Rostrevor, where the mountains of Mourne sweep down to the sea...❤️ Surely the most beautiful place gods hand ever crafted, with a beautiful soundtrack as this to remind us of what we left behind us. Home is home though, and always will be. On the shores of Carlingford lough, in the shadows of the shadows of the beautiful Mourne mountains. ❤️
I was educated by the Irish Christian Brothers in the Himalayas for a good nine years. It was tough but I had an elder brother to keep me company. I never regretted those years. Hence I developed a love for Irish music. Play on.

This song is also in the film Waking Ned Devine. A great movie and really beautifully done. I miss Ireland.

Don McLean aced this song. Does a much better version. Don's voice is much better too. Check the list on the right side of this page to find it.
I will disagree. Finbar Fury is as good as they get.

Finbar Furey is fantastic. Very hard to beat.
@Keith Davidson 👍
This is a nice version with great Irish charm and character but I agree the don mclean version is pretty special and one of my favourite songs.
