I live in Stroudsburg. I still remember when the mall opened back in 1978. Stroudsburg was a small town back then and the mall opening was a huge event. I started high school in 1979 and graduated in 1983. So many of my friends worked at the mall during high school. Since there wasn't a lot to do in town back in those days, we would often spend Friday nights walking around the mall, seeing all of your classmates doing the same thing. The place was so busy. There used to be a Hess's Department Store and then later it became the Bon Ton. There was a Sears. I bought my prom dress at the "Deb Store" in the mall. I remember when the mall came it really killed our main street. These days the mall is so quiet, but our main street has made a comeback.
Yep! Every time I see an open Penney’s I always wonder how they stay open, but they somehow survive! I remember Radio Shack - they had the best radio equipment of the time!
This is my childhood/current mall. The mall was renovated in 2002 to look the way it is. 20 years ago, this was the place to be! Every storefront was occupied and opened, with shoppers being shoulder to shoulder. We currently use it for Cinemark, dollar galaxy, FYE, the new pizza place that just opened, Spencer’s, Barbara B’s, and crafting creations.
The cinemark is so cute! It must be cozy to watch a movie there! Also the ShopRite is a good addition! I can’t imagine what it looked like before the renovations?
I went to that mall every chance I had growing up. It's more than a taste of nostalgia, it was my home away from home. My mom still has a picture of me, my brother and my sister sitting in Santa's lap in the stroud mall from 1988, that's how far back I go with this mall.
I lived here from 2000-2004 and would always come to this mall as a kid. Seen a lot of movies here too. I come here every so often with my wife and kids just to take a stroll down memory lane.
I used to live up /over in Pocono Summit,Pa. , from 1992 till 2017. I used to shop at that mall almost every weekend. So sad to see how things are there now. I remember how packed that mall was on the weekends. Heck the place was hopping even during the average weekday. I really miss that area. (Now a hoosier) ,lol.
The parking deck is partially closed because the EPO furniture store used to be a Sears. The upper deck was there to accommodate extra parking for the second floor in Sears around the back of the mall.
I worked at two different pet stores in this mall, the first one was at 280, and a little while after it closed a new one was opened at 402. I even worked at the "Put your photo on this mug or t-shirt" booth that used to be in the center of the mall. I remember getting tickets to see first Star Wars: The Phantom Menace, nobody could get tickets to see it anywhere, but then the Cinemark upgraded their sound system just in time to meet the movie's requirements & all of a sudden the whole town was there getting tickets. Oh..and "Big Munch" is a reference to Greg Munch, who was a football player on ESU's football team, and I believe he is still one of the coaches there now.
I remember when this was built in the 70's, if I recall, it was built to eventually have a second story later, it had a bakery, a pet store with a escaping huge boa snake named Benny if I recall, Hess (then later Bonton), before they added Sears & the food court after the late 80's. Sad to see it fading and slowly dying.
Wow! I literally hate what’s happening to malls and old school stores and fast food joints. I feel like we are really changing everything architecturally so fast and everything from our past has disappeared. Now we have, Amazon 🤷♀️
I like the grocery store with it! Definitely an old school concept. Mall St. Matthews where i grew up in Louisville, KY had an A&P as an anchor in the early 60s, from what I understand.
There are still 2 food places open in the food court including the pizza place that you thought was permanently closed. Not sure why it wasn't open that particular day/time. Also, there was a breakfast counter in the area of the damaged tiles. It recently removed and the tiles there were being replaced. You visited while they were in the middle of doing that work. IMO the interior of the Stroud Mall actually looks pretty nice considering the growing # of empty stores there.
I remember going there in the 90's as a kid to hit Time Out Arcade. I remember it being closer to the food court before if relocating to where the one phone place is by the seafood restaurant. There use to be a McDonald's in the food court as well. The food court used to be sunkin in as well like those old-time living rooms lol.
@@explore.evermore oh yeah it was great! I don't remember when the McDonald's left but it was right when the mall started going downhill. I still go to the mall to hang at the bar in ShopRight lol. It's such a good spot. Maybe one day this mall will come back.
@@Dalton13 the shop rite entrance from the mall is so cute. I actually love that you can do your grocery shopping, go to the movies and walk around a mall all in one visit. Lol
Omg! I noticed that they are putting like churches and religious worship groups inside old malls? Is that like a thing? I really don’t get it! How will that save a mall?
@@ShutUpProductions. we saw people going for the theatre and buying sneakers but that’s it. I’m shocked it’s still open. I went there a lot as a kid back in the early 2000’s
Well this video was shot almost a year ago and that’s how it looked. I can’t make this “sh*t up” it’s a video. If the mall is doing better, then that’s great to hear and I will revisit. But I would call it misleading if that’s how it looked then. I would never do that.

Yes I agree! I actually did a video on that mall also. But I think you’ve seen that one 😉 ❤️

You are better off going to Lehigh Valley Mall near Allentown which offers JCPenney, Macys, and many other retailers.
That mall is sooo busy like all the time. I’m more of a dead mall walker 😃
It will end up like the Euclid mall outside of Cleveland Ohio the mall has mostly church's in the mall 😢
