Māori leader Joe Hawke arrived at Orākei Marae

  • Hundreds gathered at Orākei Marae to mourn the loss of their great leader of Ngāti Whātua, Joseph Parata Hawke who has died at 82.
    He was a former Labour MP and a renowned activist, known as of the leading figures of the Takaparawhā (Bastion Point reserve) occupation.

      His people? Hawke is an English surname !

      @@cascade3769 yes and his english ancestry is also acknowledged with his passing maori will never say farewell to your maori side only. Its all his ancestors that made him strong
