- In this short we shoot a Smith and Wesson Model 640-1 Performance Center Pro Series 357 Magnum Revolver.
This revolver is built on Smith and Wesson’s J frame, has a concealed hammer, a 2.13” barrel, is a stainless steel frame, barrel, and cylinder and packs a punch being chambered for the .357 Magnum CTG.
The “640 Pro Series” has the same features of the original Model 640 but with modern features such as a front and rear Dovetailed Tritium Night Sights, a cylinder cut for moon clips and a performance center tuned action.

Love it! Not a fan of moon clips but like all of the other improvements they've made to the stock 640 with this version.
Nice I’ve got mine on my hip right now. But I changed the grips out to altamont rosewood grips
Which Altamont grips did you put on your 640? I was pleasantly surprised at how well this one handles the magnum loads.
@@FieldStrip357 i got the rosewood basket weave with the silver medallion. They make it look really nice but do not help with recoil. It’s a bear to shoot hot loads with the wood grips. Much nicer to look at though
They look really nice. I think wood grips with some red in them look really nice on stainless guns.
I use Barami hip grips on my 640 & 60. For discreet carry they’re really nice.
I love my 640 pro but you need to clean those groupings up a bit. Gotta focus a little bit more and visualize the hit.

The 640 is such a sweet piece. My first revolver and my go to. Would be my life on it.
Regret selling mine a while back, now I’m in a situation where I want to buy another, but want it back for the price I sold it for lol
Wow I have a First Generation 640 Centennial I bought in 1989. The serial number starts with CEN.
Thanks to gun scribe Wiley Clapp. S&W was flooded with requests. They omitted the orginal grip safety.
Now we have many variations of this Ionic revolver.

BTW Ruger makes a LCR with an internal hamner in 9mm that used moon clips.
Dude needs to keep his off hand thumb away from the front of that cylinder. That’s a good way to get burnt.
Great gun, I let mine slip away but my 649 and 340pd airlite are my favorites
How does that 340 PD handle the heavy loads? I love small wheel guns. Fun to shoot, easy to clean, powerful and reliable.
@@FieldStrip357 It stings. Kinda like hitting a concrete wall with a metal bat. It's crazy light, half the weight, and easy to pocket carry though.
@@FieldStrip357 it’s. Snappy little guy but if your good with recoil it’s not bad at all, I’d shoot this over 44mag any day, the hottest of hot ain’t too bad. Low recoil Barnes 125grain Buffalo bore is super nice out of it, but I can shot HST 357 154grain and the are pretty HOT and it’s manageable. I just carry the Buffalo for faster follow up shots for in city needs but hiking or country stuff I can rock heavy stuff when needed.

It’s perfect for pocket carry since there’s no hammer spur to snag on anything.
Pro series waste of money for xtra. Same standard trigger. Moon clips biggest PIECE OF S**T!!! Thin and bend to easy. Faster to load speed strip than 5 shells pointing in all directions on FLIMSY moonclip. F-U Smith and Wesson. I had and traded my Pro 642. Waste of money. 637 I love.
This revolver is not for everyone. But it’s a great shooter.
